Adding files to your root directory may seem very daunting, but the process is actually very simple when you get to it.

This video shows you step by step how to add files to your root directory through FTP using Filezilla. You can download Filezilla here: https://filezilla-project.org/

If you have any questions please pop them in the comments and I will come back to you as soon as possible :)

THANK YOU!!! I've been going crazy (ok, not really, but sort of) the past couple of days trying to fix an ads.txt file that doesn't appear to be on my site despite having a spiffy plugin that's supposed to put it there. Off to go fix AdCents (cheeky spelling intended :)

This video was extremely helpful for me! I didn't even know what an FTP server was when I started this process but thanks to your video I was able to get all my files uploaded.

Hey Lynne, Thanks for the training however I'm tearing my hair out. I've done everything you told me to do, multiple times. It shows in Filezilla as a successful transfer (8 successful transfers) yet the file isn't in my root folder. Ho hum.

Lauren that really is a pain. I am so sorry to hear that. I really don't know why that would be the case :( If I was in your shoes I might try to uninstall the filezilla program and then reinstall it and try the process again. If that doesn't work I don't know what to suggest. Perhaps search for a Youtube for troubleshooting filezilla?

Hi Lynne, Sorry to ber a pain. Your training here is excellent. However I followed it precisely and transferred the file over - please see attached screenshot, but the verification failed as the file had the wrong content - don't see how this is possible. I tried again and it showed a file content which looked ok to me. However still failed - any thoughts on what I should do next please, thanks Hudson

Hi Hudson

I'm sorry but I am really not sure what to do next - I know how to do a few things but when things don't work as they should then I really struggle myself. I can't understand why your website won't verify on GWT and why you are struggling so much. Is it perhaps something to do with the fact it is a sub-domain? Maybe you should ask someone like Loes or perhaps Jay (Magistudios) for assistance. My technical skills and troubleshooting skills are not that great. When i struggle too much I pay someone to get it done or I want to throw my laptop out the window. I wish I had a solution for you!

My problem is i have 3 sites two are active but when i put in the details for the site to log in to filezilla they come up with connection errors
Response: 331 Password required for ftp_
Command: PASS ********
Response: 530 Login incorrect.
Error: Critical error: Could not connect to server
my 3rd site is not built yet but i have the domain etc and when i log in with the details for this it actually connects all three are hosted at WA do you have any idea what may be wrong?

Hi Marie

Do you mean that the 2 sites that are active and set u are not giving any issues but the third one that is a domain but not set up is giving an issue? Perhaps you need to set it up then. Otherwise I suggest you contact support?

I know how to do lots of little things... if they work - however troubleshooting is not my strong point.

Great tutorial. I only read about it online, and never thought I would use this one day because it appeared to be very complicated. LOL.

Now I have finally been able to set up my push notifications thanks to this tutorial.

This is awesome. Thanks a lot.

When I try to connect it says: Insecure server, it does not support FTP over TLS.

And then down at the bottom it says: Error: Connection timed out after 20 seconds of inactivity
Error: Failed to retrieve directory listing

Should I take this to SiteSupport?

Thank you

Never mind, I was reading the comments on another video and fixed it. For those having the same error it's Edit>Settings>Connection>FTP and then switch it from passive to active. That solved my problem right there.

Hi MichelleAnne, I'm having the same challenge. Where did you go to edit those settings? On Wealthy Affiliate or on FileZilla. I'm lost.
I went to Transfer Settings on FileZilla and switched from Default Mode to Active and I'm still getting the same error.
UPDATE: Aah, I contacted Site Support and they said "You can safely ignore this TLS warning and proceed further."
