There are Downsides to No Categories

There are many blog types: Healthy & Wellness blogs, mom blogs, finance blogs, news blogs, food blogs, and lots more. They all seem to make similar mistakes. Most blogs don't list any categories for the topics they cover.

These blogs seem to create content only to disappear, making it difficult for new visitors to locate it. It is because there are no categories, tags, or links between posts. If a new visitor to such a site wants to browse, they can only access other posts by scrolling through the archives.

How to Manage the Structure of a Blog

As long as your blog's size is small, maintaining this structure will be easy. As your blog grows, you must strive to work harder to maintain its optimal structure. You must organize your blog with categories so that your users can easily find your posts. Now that we have emphasized the "why", let's get straight to the "how".

This is true even if you created your blog without thinking about how to structure your posts. How can you build and maintain a blog structure that makes your posts easily searchable?

I have always tried to use categories this way, but I've yet to add subcategories. Thanks Lily. Jim

I liked your point that no category should be more than twice the size of smaller ones... but I haven't done that. Looking ahead!

It won't take you very long Jack. These are just minor details that help your website to run more smoothly.
