Go to Google My Maps and click the "CREATE A NEW MAP" button:

You'll be taken to a page where you can create and edit your new map.

You need to create your map by selecting a base map, adding points of interest, layers, etc. Also, the toolbar at the top will allow you to draw lines on the map, to add routes, to use rulers, to select items, etc:

All your defined map items are saved in layers to the left, and of course, you can add, edit, rename, or even delete layers according to your needs.

Additionally, you can add new items to any layer using the toolbar, and you can select (click) any item in a given layer to add a description, to change the title or to add photos and videos:

Once you are satisfied with your newly created map, you'll have to make it public so that you can use it on your website.
