The first step is getting your website indexed in the Major Search Engines.

First off you will need to create a Google XML Sitemap this is done by using a plugin;

http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/google-sitemap-generator/

This can be installed from within thePlugins on your Main Dashboard of your Blog, just click on Add New or if you can not do this download the plugin and upload to your Plugins Folder via FTP.

If you do not have a FTP (File Transfer Protocol) Program then

CoreFTP

Is an easy one to use.

and type in the following Google XML Sitemaps

Click on Search

(As you can see I already have it installed)

You would

Install

And

Activate

Yes, because it is a lot easier to use once setup.
Notifies the four main search engines everytime a new post is made.

I just did this with a dozen sites with no problem at all. After you install, don't forget to activate Google XML Sitemaps. Thanks again BigMan Neil. John

Neil, Thanks! I have just been blogging and then sending to the social sites but I've wondered how I could do more. I know that the blogs are sent to ping-o-matic because WordPress indicates that (somewhere). John

This is excellent training Neil. I actually did the directory submissions when I started the site and used last pass to fill out the forms which save alot of time going to each directory,

That is okay using Last Pass, but Ididn't mention this because using the easier options can tempt you to post your site to loads of directories and on a new site this is not a good thing to do.
Google is paying more attention to anything that looks to be automated.

yes I mentioned that as a time saver, but hopefully people know slow and easy wins the race.
