If setting S.M.A.R.T goals is the key to success, then Motivation is the hand that turns that key.

When Thomas Edison set out to create the light bulb, he knew what it was that he was setting out to do (it was specific), and his goal was tangible. Because of this, his goal drove him, it compelled him to work until he finally succeeded even having failed over a thousand times.

So What Makes A Goal Tangible?

When you read “I want to make $2,000 dollars a month consistently by “X” date so that I can quit my day job and be my own boss” you’re getting a very specific goal, but we don’t just want a specific goal, we want a vivid image, a tangible idea, of us accomplishing this goal.

I want to be able to feel myself already making the money I need to, to be my own boss.

Here’s what I wrote for myself after I set my S.M.A.R.T goal.

I wake up every morning at 7am and cook myself breakfast. I enjoy a walk with my dog and watch as all the cars busily drive off to work for a boss that I don’t have. I return home and get ready for my job. I close my office door behind me and sit in front of my computer. I allow myself a victorious smile. I’m home, in my office, doing the job I love, working for the only person I should be… myself.

Every time I read that I felt like I had already been working for myself for years and that excitement kept me going, keeps me going still.

Why is created a vivid image for yourself important?

Every time you read your “Tangible” image, it will put you through the experience of actually seeing the goal being accomplished. Nothing is more powerful than being able to see yourself already achieving the goal that you set out to do. It will give you more energy, will, and drive to accomplish the goal than you thought you could ever have.

So, here’s my advice to you

  • After you create your S.M.A.R.T goal(s), create a scenario where that goal has already been accomplished and your experiencing it (like I did).
  • Print it out and put it somewhere around your computer where you can see it while you work, then create a pocket version and laminate it putting it into your wallet or purse (where you can find it). These will serve as a reminder everyday why your working as hard as you are.

And last but not least…

Thanks Ammono, you're 100% right. What happens though when you haven't made your first sale yet. What should your goals be?
What does it take to make a 1000 $ a month? Making a 1000 a month means roughly 35$ a day. What does it take to make one sale? How many Websites? How many Articles? After how many months?

No problem Suzzy, I'm glad you found it useful :)
I couldn't have said it better myself, goals are pretty important, especially in this affiliate marketing game.

Thanks Ammono, very useful advice. Without a goal we are headed to fail.
I will keep this in mind.
