Wordpress is by far and away the best combination of CMS and blogging platforms on the Internet. It's also become one of the easiest to install and implement as most hosting providers (such as HostGator) provides a one-click installer. Best of all, it's 100% free!

Along with the free platform, free themes can be wickedly tempting - especially when there are literally hundreds upon hundreds of free ones out there. Some (if not most) of these free themes have various items piggybacked on them without your knowledge. This can come in the form of hidden ads, links, and even malicious code. These items can literally destroy SEO and ruin your page rankings.

This tutorial will show you how to download and utilize a free plugin called Theme Authenticity Checker to check for such items.

Step 1: Download the Plugin

From your Dashboard, go to Plugins -> Add New

Search for "theme authenticity checker" by builtBackwards and install it.

Once you install the plugin, you will get a new menu item in your Appearance menu called "TAC":

This is what you will click to get an immediate check of all your installed themes. The next step is to grab some themes and check them!

Thank you for that information. Will be implementing this right away. I am redoing my husbands business website in wordpress and that could be devastating if I am using a bad theme.
