Creating a Sitemap in Wordpress

Step 1)Install the plugin. Activate it if you have not already done so. As I said on the previous page I use Google XML Sitemaps with Multisite support by Mario Kostelac which can be found here at http://blog.mariokostelac.com/google-xml-sitemaps-multisite/ or by searching for it in Wordpress plugins. Once you have found it then click install follow the instructions and then activate it.

Step 2) Go back to your Wordpress dashboard and click on Settings then towards the bottom of that you will see XML-Sitemap. Click on that.

You should see this message

Click here to run for the first time.

If all is well then you should a success message and if you click on setting in future then you should see something like this. The site map will be rebuilt every time you add new content to the site and the search engines will be notified of that.

If you see this then all is well and the next step would be to submit the sitemap to Google. You can go to page 3.

However many people report an error message however which usually involves an “unable to write sitemap” and “writing permissions” message. On the next page I will show you how to sort that out (in Plesk anyway)

Sorry I have not got around to replying sooner but not been very active here for the last month. It will apply to any wordpress site. Some of this is out of date because WA does not use plesk the same way but a lot still applies.

Your step-by-step guide regarding permissions worked perfectly! Other websites only tell you to change it to 777 or 775 or something like that. Huh? Just show me a picture of the settings!
