Hi Loes,

I am researching Search Console and Sitemaps, and your training popped up (as usual! Awesome!).

I am a bit confusing on this one though... Is this plugin for those who didn't install SEO plugins like All In One or Yoast? Because I think these SEO plugins take care of creating sitemaps?

Thank you for your continuous support!
Reply
Loes Premium
No, the All in one does create a sitemap, and Yoast does too, as far as I know. I have the All in one SEO but I couldn´t get the sitemap work correctly, so I decided to add this plugin, because I read more had issues with the All in one SEO sitemap, I created this training

Hello Loes.. Can you help me with my question please?
includes homepage, posts and pages.

I have read so many controversial opinions on web. Some Gurus recommend not including tags and categories as this might be treated by SEO as duplicate content. And others state it should be included as this can actually boost your ranking.

I would really appreciate any help and recommendations of how to approach this issue without messing up my current sitemap and rankings.

Thank you.

I always include 5 tags, the runner-up best keyword phrases and yes, you should add categories, Google likes structured websites.

Thank you very much Loes for your reply.

But I think I didn't copy my message properly as my question actually was: Should I include in XML sitemap plugin categories, tages and archives? Currently my sitemap only includes homepage, posts and pages.

I have have categories and tags on my posts. But they are not included in my Sitemap in XML plugin. I have read so many controversial opinions on web about including them in Sitemap or not. Some Gurus recommend not including tags and categories as this might be treated by SEO as duplicate content. And others state it should be included as this can actually boost your ranking.

In my XML plugin Sitemap Content boxes only checked:homepage
posts and static pages.
Categories, archives, author pages and tag pages are not included.

What would you recommend to include in Sitemap?

Thank you. I truly appreciate your help.

I just got a reply from Jay. He said if I use tags within my content then I can use it.

But he personally doesn't bother with tags thus he doesn't have it in his sitemaps.

This definitely answers my questions. It is so great to be in such helpful community.

Hi Loes,
I tried doing exactly how you explained but it still says - "Your Sitemap does not contain any URLs. Please validate and resubmit your Sitemap." It's been 5-6 days and nothing seems to work I've tried deactivating all plugins and reactivating it again but no solution.

I don't know what is wrong.
SO when I Add/Test Sitemap I just put my website name/sitemap.xml
Which is https://kindsofshoes.com/sitemap.xml but this is not working
Reply
SahilAnand1 Premium
Really sorry for putting this up it wasn't working out but then I read someone's comment and tried with sitemap-index.xml. And this has worked for me

Thanks a lot Loes for the training. It is amazing and I am so happy right now.
Thanks again.

Hi Loes,

Need a help. Can't see XML-sitemap in my setting? The last option is image opitimizer. Thanks in advance
Reply
Loes Premium
Have you activated the plugin Google XML Sitemaps?
Reply
Goodchild Premium
Maybe not. I went to the Google search console to sitemap my website and realize that I need my sitemap link. So, I found your explanation above and tried but found no XML-sitemap in Setting.
Reply
Loes Premium
Then you need to go to plugins
add new
Google XML Sitemaps
install and activate
after that you'll find it in your settings
Then you go to Google search console and add new sitemap
fill in .xml
This training is about configuring the sitemap, which boxes you have to check

Everything's working now. Thank you

A url Sitemap of your site is important because search engines act on URL (web pages) and not websites. Once you push your sitemap to the search engines it speeds the time needed to discover you.

Please also use sitemap-index.xml when adding to Google/Bing Webmasters --- sitemap.xml does not work. It will always be sitemap-index.xml because your website url is what makes it unique and the xml is just added to the end of your unique website url, thus it too becomes unique.

I agree:)

Why didn't I read this a little earlier
Thank you so much. Thanks a lot for saying this. So basically its sitemap-index.xml and not sitemap.xml
Thanks a lot again I was stuck on this for 5 days.

I don't completely understand sitemaps. I was having trouble with my sitemap and I contacted SiteSupport. They had me resubmit my sitemap. What I don't understand is they deactivate Google XML Sitemaps and created a sitemap using All In One SEO Pack. The extension is the same /sitemap.xml. that is what I don't understand. What is /sitemap.xml and why does it matter how it is created? To me it looks just the same.
Reply
Loes Premium
There are more plugins which create xml sitemaps, they all work the same once up and running. I had major problems with the verification of the All in one SEO sitemap, so I switched to Google
This might bring you some clarity too
https://www.sitemaps.org/index.html

Type: yourwebsite.com/sitemap.xml to see your sitemap
Reply
skmorrow Premium
Thanks. I have never seen my sitemap before, so that is good to see.

What I still don't understand is how /sitemap.xml created by Google XML Sitemaps is different than /sitemap.xml created by AIOS?
Reply
Loes Premium
I can not tell you that too, I don't know why

I activated the AIOS XML sitemap option instead of using the plugin because I understand this is a better option.
Now when I go to settings there is not XML sitemap option.
What should I do?
Reply
Loes Premium
I have tried to use the AIO sitemap option several times, but it didn´t function at my websites, I can't help you because I have no experience with the AIO sitemap function.
Can you please ask the community for advice? And find someone who has actually used this option?

I will but for now i will just install the plugin and follow your training so i can move on.

If you get the error and add the new sitemap, does that do anything to your current rankings or anything? Is it like starting over again?
Reply
Loes Premium
Be sure you do not copy the dot at the end of your code, that's often the reason for the error

Hi Loes,
Good tut.
I've got the internal error and am not seeing any sub sitemaps. I have been confused about this for ages.
In the beginning I added my website sitemap to webmaster tools but am I supposed to add every single post as well ? In google search console my site is shown but there is zero statistics.

Loes Premium
For the sitemap error, please contact website tech support.

The second part of your question:
Google is crawling your website about once a week, and when you have the habit, like me, to share your post after publishing.

I like Google to see that, Google sees everything.
So, I publish my post, share it on Social Media, fetch it with Google, Google sees the interaction, and is motivated to rank my post higher.
Does this make sense?
Reply
DSonic Premium
Hi Loes,
When you say you fetch it with google. You mean, you manually fetch each post in search console every time. I only have my website sitemap that is demonstrated in Kyles tutorial. I'm a bit confussed with how this system works.

I will contact support now.

Thanks
Reply
Loes Premium
Yes, I fetch every post I write manually:)
Reply
DSonic Premium
O.k cool thanks I'm gonna dive in and do that now. My fetch as google url's are all showing redirected even though my https: was added and updated ages ago. is this one for Support ?
Reply
Loes Premium
You have to select the https:// before you add your new blog, there is a little arrow that will give you a dropdown and then you can choose for the http or the https

Hi loes! Just wondering, how many days before google index my sitemap? Because right now the status is pending. And also i tried using fetch as google but it keep saying redirected. What does this mean ? and how to solve it. Would really appreciate a solution thanks!
Reply
Loes Premium
1. it can take up to 10 days
2. are you perhaps having your site changed into https and do you add the URL to the http version, you get a redirect
Reply
benjaminkris Premium
Thanks a lot ! Solved the problem already ! Oh and one more question ....on wealthy affiliate site manager tab....it says that my site is google index but the google search console says otherwise ....so what does it actually mean ? Is it indexed or not ?
Reply
Loes Premium
Have you sent in a sitemap, Benjamin?
Reply
benjaminkris Premium
Yes I have submitted the xml sitemap to google search console, currently only 5 out of 28 posts have been stated as indexed on it.
Reply
Loes Premium
Google is a bit slow sometimes, but they have noticed your website, that's good, now it is up to you to keep them noticed, every new blog post you fetch with google fetch, after a while your indexed pages and posts will grow

Hey Loes,

My website hosted here at WA refuses to allow me to:
1. checkmark Include sitemap in HTML format.
2. Add new page under Additional pages
...yet, I can easily make these changes on my Toronto hosted websites.

Am guessing it may be caused by the security settings on the WA website servers ... maybe?
Reply

I think so, I can not check that option too, and I host all my websites here Trish
