What is a niche?

A niche is simple, it is an audience. An audience looks for stuff online, for example, what are some of the last searches you did in Google. These are ALL niches.

In this video I am going to help you UNDERSTAND what a niche is, how to come up with niches that you are interested in, how to choose a niche...and if you can't come up with your own niche, then I give you a "plan of attack" for getting your business up and running in a pre-selected niche.

Here is what you are going to be doing within this tutorial:

  • Understand what a niche is
  • Finding your very own niche
  • Choosing your initial direction
  • Finding and search for affiliate programs
  • Using Answers.com to uncover niches
  • Understanding Affiliate Bootcamp

If you everr need a hand coming up with your own niche ideas, let us know and we will give you a hand. ;)

I just watched the video and I am really interested in health supplements because I've read a couple of articles that talk about the beneficial effects that different supplements have on the body. I have googled some sites and watched a couple of videos on YouTube and I'm very intrigued about learning more information on health supplements. I'm also interested in spiritual healing and essential oils. I believe that having an overall healthy well being is truly important especially as all of us progress in life.

That could be a tiny bit too broad. What type of supplements or what type of ailments specifically do you want to help people out with.

When deciding on a niche and trying to narrow down to a more specific niche, I recommend you ask yourself the following question:

I want to help people that ______________.

Fill in the blank and you are going to be much closer to a specific audience. After you do this and if you want to run any further ideas by me, let me know and I will give you a hand. :)

I have a few ideas after watching the video. You said follow your passions and you hobbies do that is what I shall go for. Can you just narrow this down for me please? I think my niche would be martial arts. Now is this too much of a broad spectrum? Do I need to narrow this down to maybe something like boxing gloves or Thai boxing shorts for example?

Hi! Yes it migth be better to narrow it down. By time you can build it bigger but I would say it is easier to start smaller. Thai boxing is better! :)

So I have a couple of ideas but just having a little difficulty narrowing them down. I am a mother of 4 and grandmother of 2 so I have lots of knowledge on raising children and raising them alone. What I would like is to have a site where parents can come and get advice but also be able to vent about their frustrations with parenting and not be ridiculed about it. I also suffer from Social Anxiety and Depression which gets worse and worse every year that I get older but the more I thought about having a site about this the more I think that wouldn't be a good one because I am not a doctor so my advice and stuff probably wouldn't be something that someone is looking for. The final thing is I am a couch potato and love watching movies (mainly) and T.V. shows. I mean I love it so much that there aren't very many movies that I haven't seen already. I watch them as soon as they come out in theaters or on demand and sometimes I watch them online (don't tell anyone else that because I could get in trouble for that, lol). I am just not sure how to narrow them down because movies is definitely too broad of a term and so is children or babies. I currently have a website where I sell maternity clothing and baby items but I don't really think that I would be very good talking about Maternity fashion. I mean I have troubles coming up with product descriptions for the items I sell so I am very skeptical about starting a blog about that. What would you advise? I am currently viewing all the links that were provided in the comments so hopefully that will help a bit. Thank you!

Awesome, I already responded to this in another area, but yes you have some great ideas here. You just need to choose a starting point and narrow it down to something specific. Do realize that there is no such thing as a "perfect" niche, so choose your starting point and move forward from there.

Take action, work hard and if you need a hand with anything at all moving forward let me know. :)

Kyle, this is eye opening for me. Im thinking of selling swimming accessories for kids. My husband is a Sports Coach and the bulk of his business tends to be swimming lessons for 5-12 year olds. I would like for us to provide swimming accessories that parents can from us online and we have them delivered to them. However, I don't how to go about this especially that we are not a country that Amazon ships to (Zambia)? I like the idea of the Amazon Affiliate Program that you mentioned but I just don't know how this all ties together? Any advice?

Have you looked for companies that do run affiliate programs in Africa?

Hmm no let try that first. Thanks!

You don't have to promote to people in your country, your website is global, and your audience will be too. For example, you could have a website that targets people globally and you sell affiliate products to people in the US, all while living in Zambia.

Hmm seems I have been limiting my thinking. I will ask more as we go along. Thanks Kyle!

So basically a niche is what you are selling, but not literally just in an advertisement, but the products are for sale. I need to find a niche that is important enough to me, something I know about but that is also in demand. See I am a full time Barber Stylist so I understand this method, I just want to make sure that what I'm marketing is worth marketing online.

A niche is the "audience" that you will be helping. When you can help someone, you can then build trust and make product/service recommendations (the selling part).

There is demand in absolutely ANY niche. All are profitable, we have to remember that there are 4 BILLION people online. ;)
