What is a niche?

A niche is simple, it is an audience. An audience looks for stuff online, for example, what are some of the last searches you did in Google. These are ALL niches.

In this video I am going to help you UNDERSTAND what a niche is, how to come up with niches that you are interested in, how to choose a niche...and if you can't come up with your own niche, then I give you a "plan of attack" for getting your business up and running in a pre-selected niche.

Here is what you are going to be doing within this tutorial:

  • Understand what a niche is
  • Finding your very own niche
  • Choosing your initial direction
  • Finding and search for affiliate programs
  • Using Answers.com to uncover niches
  • Understanding Affiliate Bootcamp

A couple of resources I leveraged within this training that you can use for your niche research. These include:

  • Amazon.com
  • Answers.com
  • Google.com
  • Magazines.com

If you have any questions about niches or what direction to go, please let me know and I will be more than happy to help you out.

My desire is to help people that don't have a clue about internet marketing. I would like my site to be informative for the beginner and inexpensive. I want to make information and products that are for the person that is just over broke how to make $100 a mo. and build it to $100 a day. I like the idea of starting with just one niche but doesn't that limit your audience and income? I'm an animal lover, especially horses, so if I had to choose just one niche I would probably go with something like horse halters or saddles. You mentioned that you would have to discuss your products. Even though I like this niche I don't know everything about each product. Would that be a problem?

You don't have to k ow everything a out each product. People what they want in the end. Also, work ing one one niche helps you to grow and target a particular audience. In the beginning you limit yourself so that you can learn the ropes. After that, your options are wide open.

I think you can research some of the products, for me I think it’s best to start off with one and master it then go on to others you can have several websites

Chosing a niche gives one the opportunity to look within and discover things that might have been left untouched or unexplored and opens you up to new horizons. I have been dealing a lot with human being in a holistic way touching the physical, mental as well as spiritual facets of beingness. So within as without. How you feel inside will colour your world.

It doesn't have to be "untouched". There is room for 10,000's of successful affiliates in any niche, so don't ever feel like you have to be the only one within a niche in order to be successful.

Think of all the "shoe stores" in your town or city. That is in one city. There are 4 BILLION people online, there is room for 100,000's of shoe stores and shoe blogs out there.

Ok, i am at the picking my niche section and i have a ?. Looking for products or services that have a membership aspect to them where i am paid a commission 1st time and then are paid for part of payments they make as long as they are members to that company whether it be credit cards, insurance, gym memberships, does not matter. Even if its 1-2-5%. Need to know if there are companies out there like that.
Reply
smartketeer Premium
Yes, there are many companies out there offering recurring monthly commissions.

But is not a niche specific factor ... Usually, when you are promoting products, you'll get a one time commission for each sale.

For repeated monthly commissions you'll have to focus on subscription-based services.

In other words, you'll have to make your own research to find out if there are such offers in your niche ...

Ok, thank you.

I wouldn't focus on chasing that kind of recurring revenue program. Yeah, they exist, but there are so many much more lucrative areas! You won't get that type of program in any of the categories you mentioned - not available in credit cards, insurance, gym memberships or many more. If you want to do lead gen, pick a lead gen program. Seriously, this isn't a good plan.

i discussed with my close friends and collaborated with my wife my list of niche that i picked and selected based on current public and social trend here in my place and i have FITNESS AND WEIGHT LOSS, DATING AND RELATIONSHIP, WEALTH BUILDING THROUGH INVESTMENT AND LATEST ELECTRONIC GADGETS.

QUESTION: if a person visited my website and click one of the affiliate links that i put in there and viewed the product on the affiliate site but without purchasing will i ever receive any from them?
Reply
in addition i am very interested in promoting WEALTHY AFFILIATE making a blog, create articles, make brilliant and eye catching website designs and graphics that will create enjoyment to some of the visitors and will plant to their mind and heart to stay and read and watch all the content of my own WEALTHY AFFILIATE promotion and introduction site?

All of those ideas are great! You need to pick one and get started. In answer to your question if somebody clicks through one of your links and goes to have a look at whatever affiliate product you are directing them to and don't purchase, then no you don't get paid. It doesn't stop that person coming back and purchasing later. What is important is that you have a clear call to action

Most affiliate programs require a purchase to be made before they will pay you a commission.. there are CPA networks and companies that will pay on action eg signing up to a free trial, requesting information etc ...
Once you have your niche do some research on all the earning possibilities.

How many niches are you going into? The one you talked about on my profile is not even listed here. The three listed here are the most competitive ones, but that means you can make money in it. However, those are way too broad and you'll have to niche down on the one you pick.

It's highly recommended that you only pick ONE niche, and then have it narrowed down to start with. Or else you'll have a hard time getting results.
Reply
@littlemama i'm sorry to confuse you of what my niche will be, this question is raised before i send a message in your profile, my niche is the ome i discussed with you in your profile OFW and will work with what trend issues as listed above in my aling with my question.

Ok. Now I know what a "Niche" is.
Now I understand why it needs to be something I am passionate about.
It's going to be a long haul getting the business off the ground so it needs to be something that I have already invested a lot of myself into both financially in the past but more importantly emotionally otherwise there is the danger of it fizzling out because I don't connect with it inside my very being. It has to already be a part of me.
So three things come up initially that are already part of my inner existence.
1) Spiritual self development.
That covers Magick, Mysticism, historical truth, (not the absolute crap we are taught at school) Cosmology, the list is endless. These things also lead into training methods like meditation, ritual, etc. All these things are aids to wake us up. As Gurdjief pointed out, "the only real discernable difference between what we term being asleep and awake is that while we are awake we are mobile."
We only wake up temporarily through shock, traumatic experiences, things like that (just think about how we feel when somebody we love dies) and then, after a while we fall asleep again.
The above leads into my next passion.
2) Health.
I have a lot of experience with alternative health care. I am infact a trained and experienced spiritual healer, not the Reiki stuff (like, pay £1000 for a weekend retreat and come out a Reiki master!)
I trained with The National Federation of Spiritual Healers and worked voluntarily for many years. I was never happy charging for it and believe it downgrades the healing process, it must be free.
I also use things like Homoeopathy, Herbs, Colloidal Silver and Gold, Oxygen therapy (Hydrogen Peroxide), Essential Oils etc.
3) All things to do with electric guitars.
Guitars, basses, Effects Pedals, Amplifiers, Leads, Tuners, Strings, right down to plectrums.
So just narrowing it down to three streams of activity still leaves me clueless as to which one and where to start!
I am so perplexed by this that I'm going to play COD online for an hour to get a break from it as it's stressing me out somewhat!

depending on how proficient you are on guitar, you might combine your guitar skills with your spiritual knowledge and develop guitar music that moves the mind to other levels of awareness..
I recall when my wife was very very sick and in the hospital for a couple of weeks. I used to bring my acoustic guitar into the room and softly play for her... and all of the nurses would be gathered outside of the door listening and when i would leave, they made me promise to bring the guitar back my next visit...as you know, music has a healing and a spiritual effect on people... maybe you could connect your two skills? Just a thought for what its worth. :)

Certainly an idea I hadn't thought of, thanks. Maybe an ongoing project alongside growing the business. You are getting into "White Goddess" (Robert Graves) territory. This is what the ancient celtic bards did, that old consciuosness has changed and we are more centered in the intelect now rather than the astral dream like state of mind they lived in. Doesn't mean its not possible, you have given me food for thought. Thank you.

That is a very worthy and current niche. You should do some research on Google and see if you can narrow that down to something that matches your passion, as you will be involved in the topic for the next few years.

Niche ... niche ... this is the goal you need to choose and reach! I think that my goal will be to create a site 1000 s 1 trifle! That is, I want to create something that is necessary for people of any age and education .. Someone can hammer a nail, and someone can write a book, but it will be useful for all of them to get advice on any issue, support, and possibly a product at an affordable price. .
Here is my idea ..

I would narrow that down, ANY issues is not a niche. Issues are within every specific niche, so you want to narrow it down to a specific audience. ;)

I would narrow it down. Fashion, or beauty? Men or Women? And then what aspect of that.

When deciding on a niche and trying to narrow down to a more specific niche, I recommend you ask yourself the following question:

I want to help people that ______________.

Fill in the blank and you are going to be much closer to a specific audience. After you do this and if you want to run any further ideas by me, let me know and I will give you a hand. :)

So I have a couple ideas for a couple different niches but I just wanted to see if maybe someone's input on it. So I'm really into music and I have my own studio and I know how difficult it was for me to find every product I needed so I was thinking maybe my first Niche could be studio equipment. But I don't know if that's absolutely too broad. I was thinking possibly being able to promote a certain brands possibly microphones. audio inputs. Their F to M cables. In my other Niche could possibly be something to do with makeup because I'm very very very into makeup. I know that's where my passion and my purpose really find themselves
Reply
TiffanyDraye Premium
Both would make a good Niche, and like you said with the studio equipment, that might be a bit broad, but then again you never know. If you could centralize a one stop shop place that would be good. And then you could compare brands against each other.
And on the second one, make-up would also be a good Niche.
Choose which one that you know the most about and the one that you are more passionate about and go with that one.
The more passionate that you are about you Niche, the easier it will be for you to create all of the content for your Niche.

Hi Eliza, those ideas for niches sound really good. I particularly like the Studio equipment, my own personal opinion you could do this one concentrate on a few of the more Important items used in the Studio.

Absolutely. Thank you so much for the feedback Tiffany. You have no idea how much I appreciate it

That's what I was thinking as well. More along the lines of just your Basics that I was having such a hard time finding like my microphones and my audio inputs those were my absolute nightmare to find and I ended up finding the focusrite Scarlett and it was a dream. So I feel like I could make that what I center around. Thank you so much for your feedback it is so appreciated.

JakeSinko Premium
I think these are two great ideas. The studio equipment one could be really amazing- maybe you compare certain gear, especially the more common and basic stuff like mics, mixers, cables, etc. Good luck!
Reply
Tulsan Premium
Eliza,
Newbie here too. :) BUT for what its worth... I think this is a great strategy, and I know if it is anything similar to my son's interest in camera gear it will be a great success - he has upgraded his camera and lenses twice last year. And he can always drop more money on additional equipment.

This is where I think doing comparisons, giving expert advice on what aspects are more important to consider than others; and then leave the potential buyer with the choice of links to multiple places to buy.
Best of luck and keep us posted.

Yes, that is one approach. Getting the formula down with a micro niche, then creating a bunch of them. Or you can create one (still very niche) website and become the authority in that space and establish a brand. That is another approach.

Crochet is perfectly viable. I can see you talking about techniques, teaching different stitches, tools and materials and so on. When picking a niche, you need to be more specific. Yes, you can do Health but in what respect?

Where in "Health" will you be helping others in?

You need to narrow down your niche way more so that you can focus on serving a particular group of people.

Health has SO MANY niches, what "health" aspect are you interested in?

You’re right... I tend to view a niche as a target market or commonality (drone lovers, people who are fighting cancer, and so on. It just happens to be that the market is full of people interested in or related to it. Absolutely use the tools to narrow your focus. Just be sure, once you’ve got it whittled down, you can monetize it through selling services, products and/or affiliate marketing (assuming you want to make money. Some people just love to help others and fins that rewarding enough).

Keto is just like any other niche, there is a lot of competition. Having said that, it is still a great niche, you just have to be better than the competition.

Just choose the one you think you will be the most passionate about, over time you are going to be able to get involved in many different niches. Once you get the formula for success down within ONE niche, you are going to be able to reproduce this within many. So not to worry.

I have 1000's of contacts in my email list (as long as 10 years ago ) whom i requested information about their opportunity previously but I did not join them.
Two Questions:
1. Is this considered spam if I promote my niche / opportunity to them?
2. IF NO, How can i tell promote my niche / opportunity to them?
What do I say to them?

Can anyone advise? Any good suggestions please?
Many thanks!

Yes, is considered spam.

Just because you added them as contacts, it doesn't mean that they are interested in what you want to promote ...

For that you need to build an opt-in email list.

I would clarify here that if people joined your email list, it is not SPAM to send them an offer. If you haven't contacted them in awhile though, you might want to warm them up to you. The key with effective email marketing is that you want to offer your "list" more value than promotions.

If you can do that, then people will trust you and be more inclined to make a purchase.

Kyle Thanks for reply.
I would like to confirm one more time if this is spam.
I was the one who contacted them asking for information about THEIR opportunity.
They replied with their info. BUT I did not join their opportunity.
I still got their email address today.
1. If I get in touch with them is this considered spam? Please confirm again.
I want to be doing the right thing.
2. If this is NOT spam, What do I say to them ? Do you have any suggestions?
Thanks and I look forward
Stephen

After Kyle's input I realize that maybe I misunderstood your question ...

If you uare talking about a contact list containing email addresses "collected" by you over the time, than is spam.

If you are talking about an actual email list of SUBSCRIBERS who joined your list, than is not a spam.
Reply
NickL88 Premium
I want to make sure I understand your earlier post. If it is a list that was collected over time then you could consider an opt-in campaign? For example, you could send an email to those contacts and letting them know that you are starting to write about a certain topic and give them a link to click on to subscribe to your newsletter. If they click and opt-in then you can keep sending, otherwise you cannot, is that correct?
Reply
smartketeer Premium
Depends what you men by "collected" ... If you simply add an email address to your contact list or you start copy/pasting, harvesting email addresses from everywhere, that's anything but opt-in

As you said, the optin means a clear consent (a checkbox, a clicable confirmation link, etc)
Reply
Kyle Premium
If you were solicited to, without your consent, then it is spam. If it feels like spam, it almost certainly is. People are going to try to push their opportunities on you all the time, avoid them as these are shiny objects. Absolutely everything you need to create and grow your business online is here at WA!

If I had to pin point one thing I am absolutely passionate about it would have to be writing, making stories, poetry.. I have a free voice I’m not scared to say what others are and sometimes that is my downfall, I just tell it how it is,

I also have some of the best waves in the hair world lol I Make Wave videos and have some of the best products I would recommend for men to start the Wave journey.

So when it comes to a niche I get stuck trying to just limit my brain to one thing I am good at because it then bores me when I can’t let my mind roam, I want to do a hundred things at one time reason why 9-5 jobs don’t cut it.

Sure, these could be directions that you could head. One thing that is awesome if you love to write, is that you can be successful within absolutely ANY niche. If you can write, you can literally head in any direction you like, passion or not.

Obviously you don't want to jump into 100 niches at once, but you can absolutely be involved in MANY niches (and successful within many) down the road as you build out your businesses and get the formula for success down.

To be honest, I understand what a niche is which isn't my issue. My issue is that I have a ton of interest and I'm not sure which one to choose from. Here's the following things that I think could be really good niches:

Health & Fitness
Music Devices (Headphones, Ipods, Speakers, Turntables etc.,).
Art & Artistic Materials.
Hair-care Products
Fashion (Clothes, Shoes)
Technology (Ipad, Kindle, Apple Phones, Androids etc.,)

I'm not exactly sure which one that I should choose. I'm passionate about all of them but I'd say the most about health & fitness and then Hair Products.

Any suggestions?
Reply
merlynmac Premium
I’d suggest starting with the one you’re most passionate about. Once you have that one up and going and you know the ropes, create additional sites for the others. What you don’t want to do is spread yourself too thin as your getting started.
Reply
LindaRiel Premium
Don't forget to niche down some more. The topics you mentioned are very general. Health and Fitness is huge, so is Hair products.
Niching down will give you a clear focus and will allow you to attract the right visitors.
Reply
chender684 Premium
Most of those are to broad. You need to narrow them down to be more focused to be something you are passionate about and you either already know a lot or are willing to do a lot of research.

For example:

Health & Fitness should be maybe Men's Health or maybe even more narrow, like Men's Health Issues.

Unbelievable, to think about the millions of things that could become a niche. Its a little overwhelming to think about choosing, when I've never really thought of of myself as being real passionate about anything. But the more I think about it, the more i realize that I am pretty passionate about a few things. And there are also a few things that I've just always been kind of interested in or just wanted to check out.So, this may not be as difficult as I first thought. Thanks Kyle for opening my eyes.

It seems amazon has several affiliate programs, depending on the region (e.g. Germany and US). What is the best to choose? Should I go for a worldwide or more local approach? I guess it also relates to the language that I use for my web site.

Looking forward to seeing your thoughts on this.

I signed up for all of them, well all I could translate anyway. I then use the one link code on my site that should refer the visitor to their corresponding Amazon region when they follow one of ,y links, etc. I’ve only made US sales so far so I can’t speak for how it actually works yet.

Hello, This lesson on choosing one's niche was very helpful. Question: you said to continue with the online entrepreneur certification program if you have chosen a niche or if stuck one can always promote WA in the affiliate bootcamp but you said it is not advised to do both. I however would like to do both. Is that possible?
Reply

I would like to do both as well and of course, that is possible.

However, when the man, that's Kyle, says that it isn't advisable, I take his word for it as he knows a lot better than me. So, first things first. First my own niche, the WA.

Did that help?

Kyle, after reading your question “I want to help people that________________”, about three times.
First I was thinking about the Bootcamp because I couldn’t possibly come up with content on my interests, but then I read your question again, and I thought about the issues I had as an older woman getting back into horses and having to buy everything again and training and. . .
There is a lot of them, do you think I should narrow this down more? Maybe which saddle to buy and why, there’s a lot to that. Or, your fitness getting back into riding, eh doesn’t sound as interesting. Oh, maybe train8ng pitfalls or where to find training. What I really like is communicating with animals, specifically horses, to ease their fears. NOt sure if this would be able to monetize easily. Oh and maybe start with one area and as I fill this could I just add another area on the same website since their related?

At first, I thought about a niche in the "midlife struggle" category ie fitness, diets, work/life balance and these sort of things but I can clearly see that this is way too broad. Not many searches for "how do I get through midlife as a winner" I guess.

How do I narrow it down? By just picking something specific as "home gyms", "yoga mats" or similar?

Thanks.
Reply
HeidiY Premium
I wouldn’t pick a product I’d narrow down your target audience. Is it men in their 40’s as an example? It sounds like you’d like a lifestyle type blog and there are some that do very well, but know who your are talking too.

This also makes it easier to come up with blog topics. What do these people want to know? What are they buying, what problems do they have and how can you help them?

Let’s say I’m a bloke in my 40’s what can you offer me so that I’ll bookmark your site because there’s so many interesting articles that I just want to go back and read :)
Reply
rannes Premium
Thanks. So, in other words, stick to my first idea and create interesting content around the midlife issues in general (fitness, losing fat, eating well, sleeping well, looking sharp, career etc.) and then promote products for this audience with affiliate links?

To me, this approach is much more interesting than the narrow route where I would have to come up with content on a specific product group.

However, I do see it will be more difficult in terms of keywords and searching as more people will search for "dumbbells" than "I am forty and fat, what do I do?"
Reply
merlynmac Premium
What about focusing on something like, for men or for women, or for the working man, etc. Try focusing on a smaller demographic in that niche.
Reply
rannes Premium
Yes, that is my intention. Men between 45 and 60, as I belong to this group myself and thus very much can relate and hopefully can create some interesting content.

Thank you for your input.
Reply
HeidiY Premium
You can use both types of keywords. Say you identify that your niche wants those cut pecs or 6pack abs and you’ve found a newly released dumbbell that is super value and a great keyword - then use that keyword and write a fantastic product review blog about why these dumbbells are particularly good for men in their 40’s :)

Then you might have a general info post on “Help! I’m 40 and fat” or a good keyword along those lines, where you discuss that by increasing your chest and arm size makes you look thinner and where natural within your content you provide an internal link to your dumbbell product review.

Your topics above are perfect categories and menu items - fitness which may include loosing weight, eating well, looking sharp (beard oil is a big seller these days :) )

Creative keyword research is a skill which can be learnt. I think as long as you target a smaller group of people so your content is more relevant to them this is not too broad a niche. Your site may not appeal to me as a woman having a midlife crisis lol, but if it is engaging and written for your niche then you can get away with a lifestyle blog :)
Reply
HeidiY Premium
Also more average searches usually means stronger competition for that keyword, therefore harder to rank. Smaller searches but less QSR on a quirky topic that only a few are searching but gets you on page 1 of google with a super targeted audience who are ready to buy is a killer keyword :)

Remember if you are not on page 1 you are getting pretty much none of that traffic, you need keywords with low QSR, under 100, but as close to 0 as possible and with some traffic :)

I have a question, I´m not sure if I understood it right but in the video I got the idea that we could choose between making our business within our own niche or if we´re not too sure we can go to Bootcamp and follow the WA affiliate programme. Having in mind that our first niche might not be the last, why we cannot do both? I understand at the beggining focusing on both might not be the best since you need to build, but in the future could be still be an option?

Thank you!

Merry Christmas! Great question. You can certainly do both. But if I were you, and like you already stated, I definitely would not start out by doing both. Learn to build your first website then if you want to add another later do that. Merry Christmas,
You can do both but you should pick one or the other to start out with. I chose to do a drone related site as I am passionate about drones so it makes the process easier and it’s fun vs work. I also wanted to test WA out before promoting it. I’m now working on my second site which is about promoting WA. Once that’s up and running, I have 2 more niche sites I’ll be developing.
Reply

Speaking from experience definitely don’t attempt both at the start.

Pick a niche site, do the Online Certification and learn affiliate marketing before promoting WA and doing the Bootcamp training. Get your niche site to a point of making you the money you want before starting a second.

I started my Bootcamp site 5-6 months after the niche site and it was too early. Now I have two half worked on sites instead of one killer site! As yclayton says two sites are very time consuming. Better to do one really well than two mediocre :)

Hi
as an affiliate marketer you don’t need to own the stock if that’s what you mean?

It’s easy to own a uk or USA amazon affiliate account or one from another country without being residence there.

With the Amazon associates program you are able to decide.

I have Amazon affiliate accounts for the Uk where I live and also the USA.

I’m not sure about Alibaba but you maybe better to drop ship perhaps through alibaba?

Thanks for your response!
My main worry is the delivery time.I don't wanna have cents waiting for 3 months for their products.
So for South Africa which would be the best affiliate markets to use?
Reply

You do not need to direct your marketing towards South African customers. That is the beauty of it all. The US market is almost 400 million people so you can start by setting up an affiliate account with Amazoncom and the market your website towards the US.

All the comments so far are spot on. The only consideration you'd have to think about would be payment methods. As long as you have a bank account, and possibly a paypal account, you will be good-to-go in terms of getting paid from most affiliate companies.

The companies you promote will handle everything like customer service, shipping, and returns.

Great video Kyle. Thanks for this.

For me, I struggle with coming up with a niche because I have quite a few interests and passions.

- Photography (This is what I do for a living)
- Travel
- Perfumes
- Wine
- CBD oil (And all of the health benefits it can come with)

Sometimes my photography involves travel for a commercial job but rarely do I travel just to go and shoot for myself. Would love to have a niche that involves both and can make good money at the same time.

I love perfumes and the world of scents. Not an expert in this area though although this is a new passion of mine

Wine - love to drink it! Also, love small wineries and the creative process behind how bottles are designed and labeled.

And CBD oil. New to this. Have seen the health benefits firsthand of using it. CBD oil is being talked about by everyone it seems and is being infused in a wide variety of products. I feel it's a great and profitable industry to get into.

Now to narrow down a niche that can combine some or all of these. This is the struggle. Haha. Hope to come up with a solution soon.

Thanks again!

Your niche/category ideas are definitely viable directions for your niche. You need to choose one when starting out, what are you most passionate about? You have some good ideas for narrowing down your niches as well, something like "wine" is very broad and you would want to be more specific with a niche like that.

I wish to promote the legal hemp and cannabis industries by creating the platform for entrepreneurs to start and build their brands. Users will be able to open their own storefronts where they can sell their branded apparel, smoking accessories, and other cannabis-related products. Including CBD oil made from hemp. No selling of cannabis itself due to various and differing federal laws regarding interstate transportation of the herb. The platform will be called "CANNABIZNOIDS". A platform unlike anything else in the entire world. that exists now. Except in my mind.

I suggest you create a blog on balloon twisting. Write about anything about balloon twisting. You can even offer a course on balloon twisting and how to make that a livelihood. Once you have acquired a good following, then you can turn your website into an affiliate marketing platform.

I think this is a great idea! There are so many fun learning tools out there, and you could start with the baby's learning tools and move all the way to like 5 or 6 years of age. After that it is really about keeping them interested in school versus teaching them at home. Don't get me wrong, we never stop teaching our children, we just start getting help when they enter school and our teaching changes roles a bit.
Good luck with the direction you go with your site!

That's a solid niche choice for a couple of very important reasons. First, there are lots of merchant opportunities for products that can be reviewed and sold. Second, there will always be new products coming out, so there's a good future within this topic. Third, it's something parents are always looking for. I think it's a good choice! Plus once you start building an audience, it's possible toy makers will start sending you products for review, and wouldn't your boys just love that???

Picking one niche to sell on my website is almost impossible. I have been affiliate marketing for the last 8 months and I have found that promoting other peoples products and services and get paid a commission to do that is the best way to earn money. So each niche will change depending on what product or service you promote.

Freelance Marketing is another great way to earn commissions, but again it is going to change. Right now I am working with a friend from India and we are promoting a website design company to help them find leads that need a website built and depending on the type of website they purchase will determine how much commission we get paid.

I have a couple of ideas about what my niche could be. I am a musician in a very successful "Golden Oldies Group. We do over 300 songs from the decades of the 50's-80's. In order to do those songs we have chord sheets for every song that can be downloaded into an iPad. It eliminates having to carry a huge notebook or have a music stand... Lot of musicians are using iPads these days..Problem is there are not that many "working musicians"

1. One idea I have would be to assemble all of these chord sheets as a pdf book and market it to other musicians or people who are learning guitar and want to play that type of music (older people). I could also include links to other affiliates dealing with music.... My reservation about this is, I am wondering how big the market would be for something like this...is it to small?
2. I also do all the booking for our group and am very good at marketing and promoting our group or anything for that matter.. So I was thinking about writing a blog as to how to go about that and make it available to other musicians that are struggling to find gis... but is the market too small for that?
3. I have about 100 videos up on youtube of our group doing many of these songs. Would it make sense to try to get exposure on Youtube and monetize what I have up there???

4. I really like the idea of promoting WA. I am good at promoting things but I have seen others here say not to start off doing that. They say it would be better to promote a product or a blog first before getting involved promoting WA...
So here I am ....what should I choose... Boot Camp? or Online Certification path??? any and all advice would be appreciated...TY

First of all, I have a 17 year old with a group of friends doing songs from these eras. Just sayin'

Don't give yourself the idea that only "Working Musicians" will be interested in what you have to offer. Even if you have a limited imagination about how many musicians might be interested, there's some potential in your idea!

I was in a garage band whose goal was to be...believe it or not...a garage band. So we played each other's birthday parties and our wive's and friends parties too...for nothing, but I would have loved something like this at the time. I was the lead vocals and would like this for lyrics, so we could better take requests that we are only familiar with.

There might be licensing issues, I'm not sure, but I think you've got a good idea there!

Thank you for your encouragement... about licensing...all of the lyrics can be found on several websites and cane be accessed and downloaded at no cost. ...What we have done is put those lyrics in a different format so they can easily be read on an iPad. When I upgrade to premium I will attach and example... What do you think of the other ideas listed? a blog about how to get gigs??? I would make an online book with table of contents...or something.. maybe arrange and list the songs by the decade they are in..

Funny someone said #4. That is my journey as we speak. My niche will have to be put on the back burner, for the time being. I will eventually complete it for my niche requires videos that I'm finding a way to do it. Y'know directing my video and creating examples, etc.

I chose now WA as another niche I will focus my attention towards and going thru Boothcamp, which to me the appropriate steps to take. Seems pretty exciting to me.

With your background being a musician there are so many directions you can go in. If you're a guitar player you can create a website where you connect other guitar players with the gear they're looking for, from pedals, amps, and effects, to guitars, strings, tablature, etc...

Your pdf chord book could be a free gift to those who subscribe to your site as well :)

As you progress with your site you can begin adding videos into your posts, which means you'll be adding to your YouTube channel with even more videos. As you gain subscribers you can then use YouTube itself to monetize your channel. I believe the minimum requirement is 1k subs.

I started off with the Affiliate Bootcamp and never looked back. Don't be afraid to check it out and see if for yourself :)

I was very surprised about what happens when i google our band. Memory Road. It appears in the top 10 of the search. How did that happen? We dont have that many followers or subscribers to our Facebook site(270 fans) and although we have 100+ videos on youtube, we probably only get 1k veiws in 4 years. I dont understand why we are at the top in search results. Do you know why? It makes no sense to me how that happened. Perhaps you could shed some light on this?

Well, I don't know much else called Memory Road, so couple that with the fact that you have some followers, you've been around a while, and you have over 100 youtube videos, it makes sense to me that Google would consider you a relevant search result. When I did a google searchyou guys came out in the top spot on page 1 :)

I think I have narrowed in on my niche (exciting)!..Natural weight loss supplements for women. Weight loss and things related (nutrition, exercise, etc) is something I am very passionate about, definitely experienced in, and know a little bit about :)

However, with so many different "supplements" and affiliate programs (it's quite overwhelming), I am wondering if I should narrow down even further to a selection of specific supplements..ones that I would actually use and honestly recommend. For example, Garcinia Cambogia, Raspberry Ketones, Green tea, Green coffee, Probiotics/prebiotics would all be specific supplements that I personally would endorse. Or, is it best to just leave it as "natural weight loss supplements for women"?

Any advice would be wonderful..thank you kindly!

Consider what you think people are looking for...is it info on specific supplement or supplements for women in general...the way I see it is make the site the more general and the post’s and categories the more specific as the support the site as a whole.

Greetings. I just finished the segment on choosing a Niche. I have written an ebook which chronicles my experience in selling stock options in which I have been able to earn
in excess of $6,500 in premiums. So, I am planning on building a website to market this
ebook. This is not a how to trade options book. I wouldn't know how, nor am I qualified to
write such a book. It is only a chronicle of my personal experience.

Why did I write it? Well as I mention, it is not to train anyone, but perhaps encourage them
to do their own research, and maybe even some paper trade, another term for pretend trade,
to see whether it is something they might want to explore.

So, I have my first niche. W.Clark

Hi, I want to choose a niche on personal development. Not too sure if this is the best place to start, as a beginner. As I would probably need a huge email list, squeeze pages, etc. And you have some heavy weights out there as well. I like change, and I have found in the past, most, not all though are not open to change. Also baby related niche is the other.

I would narrow this down a bit, what do you want to help people personally develop. Personal development is a bit of a trap niche because it can mean so many different things to different people.

After giving this thought I see choosing a niche is not a easy task I could get in where I fit in that would lead me to musical instuments and equipment but I don't know if there is a online demand for buying instuments is a personal experience when you buy something you want to be able to play it to hear what it sounds like so I will probably choose a more profitable niche
Reply

Yes, buying instruments (people interested in buy a guitar, etc) is definitely a niche. So is playing music, learning how to play it, along with many other aspects of the music industry. Lots of directions that you could head.

Hey Kyle, thank you for video link It was very helpful,
I think I found my niche or what you can call segment as it is a bit broader to niche
I want to go into the segment of "babies 0-2 yrs".
I think in this segment I would like to create a website providing the needs of babies and moms as the first 2 years of human life the things are pretty much in need.
I want to help people find and guide them for the requirements for babies growth.

Please guide me to create this!!
Reply
Kyle Premium
Sure, what aspect of babies do you want to help people out with. Obviously that is a huge audience and there are many things parents are looking for when it comes to their infants.

You could create a brand like the "first 2 years", I just would be careful about covering too broad of topics whens starting out or you are going to be left with a sense of being overwhelmed. Even something like Swaddling is a HUGE niche, just something to consider before you go too broad.
Reply
yes Kyle, exactly my point I do have an idea how broad this segment is, but thanx to your video this idea popped up to my head and I remember my experience with my kids, and as a parent a lot of experiences I have been through and helping new parents is what I was thinking to get in. certainly, I will narrow it down to start within the next couple of days, and later I will think of adding horizontally and vertically expansions. though this area has a lot of room.

Thanks for the help in finding a niche! I have a couple questions: 1. What is the commission that Wealthy Affiliate pays if I was to choose to promote that niche? 2. When choosing a niche, should I expect to be purchasing items within that niche or already have purchased so I'm more knowledgeable on the product and able to give personal reviews? Thanks again!

hey hi Barry & welcome to Wealthy Affiliate Starter!

All good questions:

1. If you have a niche site for affiliate marketing -- then it depends upon the affiliate company -- it varies.... you would need to find this out during your research of each affiliate company that you've selected to possibly work with... recommend you get rolling on your training: 2. If you are promoting a product, then, of course, you would need to be sufficiently knowledgeable about the product in order to write product reviews.... it really is up to you whether you want to purchase the product or not...

3. if you would like to promote Wealthy Affiliate, then, you would need to build your site around that and do the training to success.... and it would be recommended to become a WA Premium member to obtain all the amazing benefits & advantages....

hope this helps to answer your questions a wee bit for clarity and understanding...

How far would you narrow down your niche? I have been in programs where the focus on on super narrow niches so it becomes difficult when I have a lot of interests. All in a similar field, fitness, strength training, nutrition, mindset coaching etc. Recently I've been doing work with women's strength coaching so I could start there.

In my opinion, should not go too narrow to the point where you can struggle to find topics that can attract people to your site.

I think your niche should have the size that allows you to write at least 100 posts. These include How to's, reviews and top X type of posts. The more you can write about your specific niche, the better.

My advice is Choose your niche, but don't choose a domain name that will limit your ability to cover related topics. It's good to have some space to adapt as you gain more experience in your niche. As long as you are not covering topics that are not related to your site, it's Ok!

another consideration would be: "I want to help others ............... and complete the sentence to your liking ...

with your professional mechanic experience -- one would think that you could easily blog about that and help people with their vehicles ... and there's lots of vehicle owners out there ... might want to fine-tune the topic to, perhaps, by brand, or vehicle-type, etc.

My niche would be about traveling, art and lifestyle. I'm currently based in Bangkok, Thailand. I used to live in the US but I still frequently travel to the UK. There are way more affiliate programs and online products available in the US and the UK than here in Thailand especially in art-related categories. Plus, it takes much longer time and higher tax to order products from aboard. In this case, do you think it's better to aim for audience in the countries where the products could be delivered easily without taxes? What do you think are the chances to drive traffic internationally with this niche?

I have a passion for travel, especially for travel to historic places, and I could create content around that subject. Also, I can think of various things someone who travels would need. But it's harder for me to think of a specific single travel related product to focus on and to create my content around it. For instance, I can't get excited about suitcases or fanny packs. But I'd love to write about touring the USS Ironsides or organizing a trip to Mammoth Caves for a Boy Scout troop. Any suggestions on how I can join my passion to a specific product?
Reply
Kksb0711 Premium
Maybe your niche could be traveling related. It needs to be something people will search for specifically.

You can make a website about “the basics of traveling” or something like that. But I would do some keyword research and find out what people are searching for related to traveling. Maybe “best way to travel.”

Then you can sell specific accessories in different posts on your website. But the more specific you are the better your website will be and it will be easier to build your brand.

Does that help?

It sounds like an excellent and unique niche, but as you said, you should consider the monetization possibilities too ...

USS Ironsides = historical books?

trip to Mammoth Caves = maybe specific equipment for exploring caves?

Thanks for the link. You wrote, "To put it simply, you are looking for niches that can sell lots of different products or services that people really need or want to solve an existing problem. That, along with a laser-targeted website that provides the best genuine solution(s) to their problem(s), and you’ll start making some real super-affiliate commissions."

So, getting back to my interest in traveling, there are a lot of products and services travelers really need. To have a laser targeted website, should I only focus on one for of travel related product (say, suitcases)? Or should I focus more on a specific content (say, educational travel) and sell various products (luggage, tours, first aid kits, toiletry bags, etc.)?

I could... if you offer unusual trips and included your suggestions for updating my luggage. Eg. a day pack designed for very small framed women, that doesn't drag & pain my lower my back. - all part of the 'Wellness' aspects of travel

In the video, Kyle seemed to be encouraging us to select a product to focus on selling. And that does meet the definition of a niche: a specialized segment of the market for a particular kind of product or service. So a specific, product focused site like the NFL helmet snack bowls fits that model.

But if I can't get excited about a specific product as much as a specific type of content, would it be valid for me to focus on a subject matter and then figuring out what types of products would appeal to people interested in that subject matter?

i used to sell advertising first for radio and then magazines. I was selling advertisers access to the audience each magazine attracted. So in deciding which companies to call on, I would consider who might want to promote their products to the Christian women who read one magazine and to the home educators who read another magazine. I had many products to promote, not just one type. How is affiliate marketing different?

Hi David. Each of us a different in how we approach this. I focused on the subject matter because I knew what niche I wanted before I started. There's nothing wrong with developing a Niche and then adding products.. All the best.

Hi, I have an interest in clothing and fitness however, I would like to go with fitness as it is something that I too am starting to adventure in. I aim to be fit .

Okay so I have established that now, I'm not an expert in fitness but I like the idea of using a treadmill or exercise bike. My question is should I narrow this one or pick both as my niche within a niche

Or can I do fitness as my niche

What aspect of the health/fitness niche do you want to help people with? There are literally 1,000's of niches within these categories and you will want to narrow it down.

In 15 minutes my niche changed !!! I was "over thinking".. Started out going for "Health & Beauty" as popular... What do i know about that apart from a bit of secret self tan from Step Daughter, lol... My passion is "FISHING", course fishing, obviously equipment & tackle change through out the world, bit i am now in my comfort zone....

Fishing is definitely the direction that you should head then. What aspect though, equipment for what type of fishing? What type of tackle? Fresh water, river, salt water, etc?

You can definitely narrow this down a little here, fishing is a vast niche.

Hi Kyle, Thank you for reply. It would be Fresh water/River, Equipment would be ? un-decided, Rod's/Reel's ? I feel that "worldwide " those could be targeted... As a Fisherman myself, if "guided" by Website, I personally would be interested, lets say buy a rod/reel from USA even though i am UK & visa/versa If that makes sense... Anyhow, 1 day to go to Black Friday,lol.... Cannot wait... Got my teeth into this & its awesome.. Your training & guidance is amazing... Take care.

Hi,
I was thinking about creating a niche around Exercice, training and well-being. I would like to help young adults who are out-of-shape, skinny or overweight feel good about themselves by offering them insights and products that helped me. By adopting these products and the way of life I'm suggesting they will build muscle, loose that extra weight or just feel good in their own shoes.

Basically, I would like to help young adults who feel insecure about themselves reach their full potential and get the most out of life.

Is it a good direction to go on? What do you guys think about it? Is it too general or too specific? What am I missing? Suggestions?

Thank you for taking the time to answer.
Good Luck.

Calin

That's a great idea and I like that you said "that helped me". That tells me you have actual experience and are invested in the niche. I'd say your focus is pretty spot on, young, out of shape and helping young insecure adults to feel good about themselves.

It's not too specific, limiting your options and I don't think it's too broad. I say go for it.

Calin, that is a great niche. There are so many people, including myself , who are always looking for ways to get this weight control thing down. What is good about this niche is that it can start as helping people and their potential, it can then include exercise and choosing the right program, add nutrition, add exercise gear etc. This is a wide niche, a good niche so i suggest you start in a small area and expand. This is because when you start in a small area, you will get results easier and build a trusting customer base. Best wishes !

Hi Solomon...

I'm Lee... You have a Fantastic Idea...!!!
There are SEVERAL Companies out in .COM World that are doing Affiliate Programs that would LOVE to have you Helping them...
I know this because one of the sites I've created in the past I NEVER Once got a NO from when asking about doing Marketing and Affiliate Programs with...
A little advice... Do some Homework... What I mean is, find products that you can find on more Expensive Sites, like GNC, and find them Cheaper somewhere else so you Drive Traffic to you instead of GNC for Sales...
GNC does have an Affiliate Program, but their Prices are OUTRAGEOUS in comparison to other places... People only go there because it's a Household Name...
Good Luck! You've Chosen a Great Niche...!!!
Sincerely,
Lee

I'm thinking that making money online would be a good place to start. Because of the plethora of scams out there, it's refreshing to find a legitimate way to learn, grow and become successful using the Wealthy Affiliate program. This is something I can personally relate to and I know that it will rescue many wayward searchers that have been lost amongst the scams!
Any thoughts as to if I need to narrow it down any, or is this the right size to start with? I'm sure there are many ways to scale this up into something totally awesome.

Hey Chris,
one, yes you would need to narrow it down to start targeting a specific audience in the make money online category - it will be much easier than being too broad.
2, you would definitely benefit from going through the affiliate bootcamp. it will go through the different niches you could target in the making money world.
hope that helps

You could target a chosen demographic, for example men over fifty, recently retired persons, college graduates, people with young families who need extra money, at-home moms who could work online etc. You could start with a specific group and expand it to include others as you see fit. Best wishes

I've been writing in a personal blog (that all just sit as drafts) for a few months now and I'm realizing that I have a couple of topics in very different niches lol! I haven't decided which one to follow first, so I'm looking into affiliate programs first to help me decide. Some of my possible niches include:
1) Music: learn to read music, learn an instrument, learn to sing better, where to get good cheap beginner equipment, apps and software... (have found 10+ affiliate programs of interest)
2/2.5) Consumer Electronics: phone accessory reviews, new gadgets, how to use your phone, how to fix phone problems, 2.5 Electronics & the environment: electronics recycling, enviro-friendly products, health tech.... (have found 5 or more affiliate programs of interest)
3) Becoming self employed in an affordable way (British Columbia, Canada specific laws), starting an online business (have found somewhat similar affiliate programs of interest)

As you can see I'm going way too broad but really do have knowledge and the desire to share it on every aspect!!!
