What is a niche?

A niche is simple, it is an audience. An audience looks for stuff online, for example, what are some of the last searches you did in Google. These are ALL niches.

In this video I am going to help you UNDERSTAND what a niche is, how to come up with niches that you are interested in, how to choose a niche...and if you can't come up with your own niche, then I give you a "plan of attack" for getting your business up and running in a pre-selected niche.

Here is what you are going to be doing within this tutorial:

  • Understand what a niche is
  • Finding your very own niche
  • Choosing your initial direction
  • Finding and search for affiliate programs
  • Using Answers.com to uncover niches
  • Understanding Affiliate Bootcamp

A couple of resources I leveraged within this training that you can use for your niche research. These include:

  • Amazon.com
  • Answers.com
  • Google.com
  • Magazines.com

If you have any questions about niches or what direction to go, please let me know and I will be more than happy to help you out.

I have selected my niche based on this video but it is not in the baby niche. Amazon is one of the better choices as far as affiliate marketing goes. I already sell on Amazon and have been for 2 years. But I recently wanted to sell another type of product besides selling books and I found this website that is going to help me start that other part of my business that is separate from selling books.

Amazon is one of many affiliate programs you can leverage in the baby niche, but I would recommend that you narrow down to a particular aspect in the baby niche. There are many directions that you can head in that category.

When deciding on a niche and trying to narrow down to a more specific niche, I recommend you ask yourself the following question:

I want to help people that ______________.

Fill in the blank and you are going to be much closer to a specific audience. After you do this and if you want to run any further ideas by me, let me know and I will give you a hand. :)

i really want to talk about natural parenting, is this too broad? I have had this in the back of my mind for a while now before finding WA but now after watching the video it seems too broad? I feel it will be successful because I can discuss many aspects of natural parenting from infants to older kids (my topics and discussions can grow with my kids and my own experiences/knowledge) where as I know that I could create tons and tons of content.

Natural parenting sounds like a great niche. Since it is so broad however, you might want to begin with infants. You will probably be creating so much content on breastfeeding, organic/ cloth diapers, etc., not to mention if you decide to deal with the topics of pregnancy and natural birth. (Any of those could actually be a niche in itself). You can always add older ages later.

Hi I would like to choose traveling is my niche focusing mainly about interesting places in my own country., Namibia. Am I on the right track and where do I indicate the ninche I want to focus on here at WA. Or must I first finish the training before I get to indicate my niche?

I think that is a great niche! You will indicate your niche as you build your website while working on your training. You do not need to specifically post anything on WA saying that is your niche.

Wishing you the best success!

You don't 'indicate' you niche anywhere - you just build your site on that topic. Continue with the training - it walks you through everything step by step.

A little confused. So if I find a product that I want to promote that I find in a affiliate partner, In order to get ranked and be found in google I have to write a entire blog dealing with that one product? What if the product was custom golf tees, How do you write a entire blog on that? Any help with direction will be of great help!
Reply
TomiK Premium
I think it is supposed to be more of a specific category of product. So with custom golf tees (not a golfer here, so I'm going to assume you are talking about the things you stick in the ground and not shirts), you could do a few articles comparing manufactures of the tees, a few articles on why you need custom tees, what to look for in custom tees, how to know when you are ready to buy custom tees.

The other option would be to blog about custom golf supplies in general, like if there are custom golf clubs that you can get or if you need specific shoes for your foot-type. Again, I'm just making up things that I think golfers might like, but I'm hoping that makes a little more sense.
Reply
littlemama Premium
The lessons will show you how to write, what to write, and how to build content on your site. There are going to be many different ways you can talk about custom golf tees, and as you keep learning you'll understand the different angles you can go about talking about it.

Your "entire blog" is not going to be about custom golf tees (unless you want it to be) because that seems quite a narrow niche. You will maybe just write one or a few posts about this product, or you could write even more if you like promoting custom golf tees.

But your blog I'm assuming will be more about custom golf tees to include what clubs you'd like to use, what shoes, how-to guides, etc. There are many products you'll be able to promote on your Golf blog, not just one product.

Hope this helps,
Grace

Very exciting to think that my passions can literally earn income. I have so many, the potential seems unlimited. " Variety is the spice of life guy". Now choosing which to start with will be the tough part. But I won't overthink, think too long, or develop "paralysis by analysis". Just need to choose and dive in. Thanks again for everything you do!!!

Yeah, I think to a certain degree most of us have many things that we are interested in. The key is choosing just ONE of these passions and focus on that first, before you focus on too many different niches. It only takes one.

As you get the formula for success down, then you can diversify and get involved in many other niches.

Sorry for my confusion re: Kyle's suggestion as to choosing the Online Entrepreneur or the Affiliate Bootcamp..
Correct me if I'm wrong here folks...if I have chosen my own niche(s) I would use the Online otherwise I use the Affiliate Bootcamp. Why does he suggest not using both ?

Thanks,

Hi Jim it's best to only do one thing at a time. So if you have chosen your own niche you should concentrate on building your niche website and follow the Online Entrepreneur Certification training. Otherwise do the Bootcamp. But whatever you pick, you can, of course, do the other training at a later time. Many members have more than one website. Just don't do it simultaneously.

I wish to create a site that revolves around children. I wanted to create a place where parents can find everything they need for their kids, as well create an ongoing regristy that can show any family or friend who wishes to get something for the child, can look and get something that is needed. I’m not sure if this is a good idea or if I need to narrow it down or make it a broader idea

I would recommend that you narrow it down a bit, what aspect of "children" do you want to help people out with? You have some good ideas there.

When deciding on a niche and trying to narrow down to a more specific niche, I recommend you ask yourself the following question:

I am currently thinking maybe video games/board games or I'm a big fan of cycling to work (and pretty much everywhere), though not sure if that would be a niche. Maybe need to narrow it down.

I can not decide on a "Niche"? My target audience is ''ALL Filipinos'' or perhaps also any UK dwellers who want to discover ''Anything U want to know about The Philippines'', for the novice, from somebody English who understands the English people as a 'Race'?
There are perhaps a million things that I could select as a "niche" perhaps, but maybe the best way to find my target audience, is to create a website which targets "ALL FILIPINOS" or perhaps ANYONE INTERESTED IN THE PHILIPPINES AS A HOME"?
My own personal target will be to live in The Philippines, myself, & create a solar power generation plant for myself & my live-in partner?
Prhaps this is the way forward for me, personally, but I hesitate to focus my website on such a narrow "niche",when my target audience is so broad in aspect? I reiterate--My main aim is to get & keep busy, & also to help & improve the lives of many Filipinos, & if I am able o make a little money along the way, then so much better, because it will probably enable me to help more, as a result of having that money?? All help & guidance will be GREATLY APPRECIATED==I want to get going!!!!!

you could do an authority site on the phillipines - that's not out of the question.
you would need to split it down into sections and concentrate on each in turn until all information exhausted.
you could also have a my journey section - a public blog of your journey to get to the phillipines and how you achieved it - highs and lows - what was needed and once there what you achieved for yourself and the fillipinos.
looking on answerthepublic - with just phillipines as a keyword returned a few responses.

we all take in information at different rates, you just need a different approach.
once learnt it is very difficult to go back to when we didn't know the information, so i'm sorry for assuming.
think of your website as a book, having chapters.
so one chapter is all about your journey to get to the phillipines.
another chapter is all about how you can get to there, to experience the real culture of the islands.
another is about what sort of work is available.
these area at the top as your menu.
it is worth sticking with the training here and going back through where you feel weak on.
we all do it.
please don't stop asking questions, this is what the community is for.
but take it slowly and write down what you want to do - break this down itno smaller steps until you get to the point you can do them.
small steps to start with and you will soon get the hang of it.

that's no worries - this is what the community is for.
you've decided to investigate a path that will take you on an online journey and if you haven't seen any of this before then it is a steep learning curve.
the main thing to do is to leran - thik about it - do it and repeat.
as long as you aren't expecting results next week you are ok- maybe the week after - lol
so take your time and hopefully the community will help you get there.

I am at the, "Finding a Niche" stage in the training and am now stuck. I want to help people that are stuck mentally (spiritually) who think they have no control over their lives. I want to help them realize they do have control, by how they choose to respond to their circumstances with emphasis on building a spiritual foundation in all things. I believe finding a balance in faith, family, fitness, fun, and finances is imperative to obtain a life of time and financial freedom. I intend to do that with sharing my life as I move through balancing all these aspects.

So what niche do I actually have here? LOL, I am so stuck and it is the one thing halting my progress forward. Well, that and creating an actual website name.

Big picture: once I get through the OEC training and have a website in the above niche, I would like to complete the Affiliate Bootcamp training and create a WA Promo website to help people looking to build a website and/or make money from it, but aren't sure how. I intend to do this by sharing how I created the niche site through WA's training program.

Also, as I move through WA's training program with success, I will plan to be transparent in sharing the experience through blogs on my initial niche website. Making everything go around, full circle.

I am a complete beginner in all aspects of starting a business online, so I really value and appreciate any input you all provide.

It's completely natural, especially for all of us who jump in as beginners, to maybe feel like we're gonna do something wrong or think that we don't know how to take the next step. But you have absolutely identified your niche, and it sounds like you'll be able to create all kinds of content on how to cope with the infinite stresses that are out there that people get lost in.

I'd imagine that within your content you'd also be able to connect your audience to helpful books, videos, ways to relieve stress, along with things to help them meditate, etc. and that process will go hand in hand with the affiliate marketing aspect of your business.

Don't stress. You're doing great.

I am wondering do you intend to practice as a spiritual business coach? It is a niche and if you have any training qualifications you can do it. If not You may find it easier to start with Boot Camp because you can monetize that make a profit from it.I am not sure how you will make a profit from spirituality not that I'm saying don't do it but Boot Camp will be easier as a first try. Maybe in another couple of months you will know where you're going spirituality to bring them together

Therein lies the problem, Katkat. My wheels are spinning right now, and I am so indecisive. To answer your question, I don't intend to practice as a spiritual business coach and don't have any training certifications to do so. I have been brainstorming a lot the last few days and keep coming back to the same questions, "Bootcamp or Niche?"

Initially, I was thinking, "I don't want to just have a site about making money online. And don't wish to start there." I had asked if there was a way to actually make money doing both promo and niche. Ericcantu mentioned how some start a niche site, once that is up and going well, they go through Bootcamp, start a WA promo site and share how they got started with WA, the training, etc. The WA promo site is geared toward an audience of people wanting to start a website but isn't sure how. I thought this was genius! So, that was what I was thinking of doing.

Now, I am totally unsure all over again. After much debate, I came to the conclusion, essentially I want to help people learn how to make money online, how to become financially free. I would like to share my personal experience with it because that is just who I am. But I am yet to become financially free, lol. So, now I am thinking I should continue the Bootcamp training, create a WA promo site, begin making money, and then create another site (lifestyle niche) that shares my experience. Naturally, in sharing my experience the spiritual aspect, and pretty much everything I mentioned above, will go hand in hand.

I guess my hesitation with whether I should move forward with OEC vs. Bootcamp, is if I choose Bootcamp, what the heck will my WA promo site be about? I am just starting and have very little experience with WA. Maybe that is the type of question Bootcamp is designed to answer. LOL

So, is it?

Sorry if that is too much. I did mention my wheels are spinning, right?

Where a lot of people overthink things is this idea that they have to be an expert to recommend something. If someone recommends a camera to you, do you ask them how long they've been a professional photographer? Of course not, right? You take their recommendation when you realize what they're looking for and what you're looking for are similar.

This is the same for both choosing a niche around your passion or choosing the preset niche in the Affiliate Bootcamp.

If what you want is to help people like you looking for this kind of training, then jump into the Affiliate Bootcamp. You're not going to be talking about how much money you've made because that's not what they're interested in. Every single lesson is one that you can leverage into a post for those looking for that exact training, and Kyle covers this.

If what you want to go into is helping people take an introspective looking into their own spirituality, go with the OEC. You'll be able to recommend things that have helped you in the exact same way. You don't need credentials for recommending what has helped you, just like you don't need to be an OBGYN to recommend baby clothes or a licensed personal trainer to recommend a good upper body workout :)

And also remember that it's not like there's 30 different training camps here at WA. There's 2 :) Just jump into one and move forward and at any point you can just jump over to the other if you like. The key is learning each step of the way. You don't have to build this perfect thing. It's all about learning.

Dear Kyle,I am having great dificulty deciding if I need to create a "Niche" as such? My idea about the aim of my website,is to help Filipinos know more about the UK, & everything about it? Where it comes from as a country, & why it has become such a powerful political community & country, although it is but one small island & the Philippines consists of 7,107?? My hope & intention is to live there soon, &whilst; I am very interested in solar power & everything connected with it, because my first aim & intention when I live there will be to set up solar power generation for myself & livein parner?
I know & understand that this will be expensive initially, but I also realise that this will make an enormous cost saving on my overall living expenses, which are fixed, because my only income will be my OAP from the UK government. If Iam able to promote & sell workable & cost effective solar installation for any &/all Filipinos, then that will of course, improve living & working standards fo all Filipinos. most or many Filipinos are very poor, & many have no electric of any description--I can do little for them, but if I can create a system that is reasonably priced, with connections to equipment & & knowledge, then it is very possible that I can create a workable employment situation for many more? B the way, I know personally from family & friends that all Filipinos have a great love & affection fo English chocolate products, & many other items available in England. So, I am wondering if contained within this message, you can find one or two items that could be consdered as "niches" within my very broad aims of my website?? Hoping this is worthy of an answer & not too wide an aspect for an intended website?? LOL

I am having a hard time with mine. My favorite things are camping and anything iPhone related. Is camping gear too broad of a topic? Am I looking for something as simple as tents? Or 5th wheels, or RV's, or sleeping bags? Or can it be a couple of those in one? For example, with tents you need sleeping bags and lanterns. How broad can a niche be, or does it have to be super narrow? And what is more lucrative, do you think? iPhones or camping? (Yes, I know, they are both super random when it comes down to it. LOL)
Reply
ericcantu Premium
I don't see anything wrong with having a website on sleeping bags and then building it out to offer related products like tents and lanterns. It's different if you have a niche like photography and then offer yoga pants. But with related niches, they go hand in hand.

So just because your website is titled, for example, "The Sleeping Bag Bonanza Website for all your Sleeping Bag and Bonanza Needs - 24/7 Bags for Sleeping Humans", that doesn't mean that you can also offer tents and lanterns and a host of other related things in your content as well. In fact, it would make total sense to offer those related items.

Kyle wrote a great blog you'll love on exactly this. Here it is: p.s. Please don't use "The Sleeping Bag Bonanza Website for all your Sleeping Bag and Bonanza Needs - 24/7 Bags for Sleeping Humans" as an actual title for your website. The world isn't ready for that yet, lol.

But I understand now that I just have to dive into it and get started and I might come up with others (better?) niches later on, or just add more niches with additional websites as I learn and grow in this. The startup for me will probably be within yoga. The intended audience would be "the average woman 40+" with themes on mindfulness, less stress, recommendations on good yoga programs, recommendations on yoga equipment etc. I have already found some affiliate programs within those areas. I did some checking on becoming an affiliate. What I got was a number of sites offering the same thing this training provides i.e shopify, click funnels, Shop a bot through amazon. What I am seeing is that there is a fee for each affiliate program or websites need to comply with a particular software configurration. Is this correct?
Reply

Hey Steve,

If you are being asked to pay a fee then that is not being an affiliate to a business.

If you want to find businesses offering affiliation all you need to do is Google search your niche.

Example:
Let's say your niche is dog treats... then all you would need to do is simply Google search "affiliate for dog treats" (without the quotation marks, of course) and you will see several businesses offered in the search results that offer you a means of signing up with them so that you would become an affiliate to their business.

Hope you find this helpful.

That would work. There are lots of items from sites like Fanatics.com or Etsy.com, as well as many other sites with products specifically for those teams. Expect competition on team names, though, so you'll probably need long-tail keywords. You can't just use Washington Redskins as a keyword - you'll need to go deeper/longer, like Washington Redskins license plate holder.

Just write down as many ideas as you can and eventually you can choose the best one. Don't worry if you write down ones that sound silly, at least you get it out of your head. eg. Making Money.. or A life of Freedom … Jim

Hi Ulrika,

I agree, just take a pen and paper, because paper always works for me anyway, but write down as many names and ideas that come to you, Once you have a few names, you can look through them, perhaps with a friend to help eliminate those names that definitely do not work first, and then work through the others to see what you like.

Don't over think it.

I have narrowed down my first niche to a few but not sure which one to go with.
I have experiences in the fitness industry so I was thinking of home workout gear.
As well I'm an avid kayaker so was thinking kayakgear. My third is Camping accessories specifically for trailers.
Tough decision to go with but I think maybe health and fitness is pretty big right now. That might be the one.
Reply
adreyna Premium
Those are all great niches. While health and fitness is a good niche, it is also very broad. The more you can narrow it down, the better. The home workout gear sounds like a great niche idea. Did you have a specific one in mind that you want to start with?
Reply
mikejd Premium
Not a specific item. I was thinking any fitness equipment for working out. Items like mats, stretch bands foam rollers. Not cardio items such as treadmills.
Reply
FKelso Premium
Yes, Adreyna is right. You need to select a niche that is not too broad, but when you narrow it down, you will need to be able to write a lot of posts about that topic. Therefore, pick the one you know the most about. You might do some brainstorming and think of all the topics related to that niche that you can. Make a list of those ideas. You will have to write many posts on the subject, so if you have one in which you have a lot of experience and knowledge, that will be helpful.
Reply
adreyna Premium
Oh, I see - I'm sure that will work...sounds good!

If it was very narrowed down wouldn't it be difficult to continue to write posts. Like if I chose foam rollers. There's only so much you can say about them.

I'm not trying to find the perfect niche` because even if I found it, I've had no experience with most of 'em so I think I'll go with what I know. I'm referring to the things I've been through that most people haven't such as suffering in a car accident that was so bad, it caused my heart to stop 3 times during the flight to the emergency hospital called Shock Trauma Hospital in Baltimore, MD in 1994.

I've had to do without so many things because I don't have the physical ability to work at a regular job so I've really suffered on state-provided disability since 1994 and it's time for me to change my life. That's especially true now that I have a wonderful wife & we have a precious little girl who was born in late 2015 and that makes her 2 1/2 years old as I write this.

So therefore, the first niche` I'm going to start with will be "disabled affiliate marketer" and when that succeeds, I'll move into other niche`s like "disabled home owner", "disabled husband", "disabled father" and the list goes on.

What are your thoughts about what I just said...?

I am so happy to learn that my concern with my niche being over-saturated was unnecessary. Remembering just how many potential customers are online today, as well as how numerous the growth of products and services is there waiting...my mind is at ease. And the icing on the cake is knowing we can have a great variety of niches over time. Great presentation!
Reply
Kyle Premium
Yeah, totally unnecessary.

Never worry about competition within the niche, any given niche is so vast that there is so much opportunity and so many keywords/audiences that are "untapped".

The only competition you should worry about is you and by being a member here and what you learn here at WA, you are going to have a competitive advantage over any of your competition.

When I enter a niche, competition does not even cross my mind because ANY niche can be highly lucrative and there is so much opportunity within any niche.

You will be just fine, don't worry about competition Tamara.

I have gone through many different things that I like to do and the one thing that seems to always be around wherever I go is music. I am thinking about building a website revolving around waterproof headsets. no one ever wants their speaker blaring super loud just to over power the sound of the shower and it is really hard to be at a public pool and enjoy your music without disturbing others as well its inconvenient to keep getting out and putting on your earbuds. It depends how much work and effort you put into each site. Many WA members have several successful websites running but it takes time and hard work to maintain them. So to answer your question: You can get a good return on more than one site but you need to make this happen.

Thank you for broaching the subject of "Niches", what you have said has made it less scary but again I am still stumped. Can I do a Niche along the lines of Leather Boots & Gloves ?? Or since I have known its kind of hard to find leather accoutrements for larger people be it boots, gloves or stockings and garter belts or would that just be classified as Lingerie ??
The Snack helmets surprised me, I am an avid football watcher and it just never occurred to me to have Helmets that are for holding bowls of chips or candy, that was mind blowing. Not that I liked the Dallas Cowgirls helmet, didn't see any Redskins Helmets which was a shame.

I have variety of interests but not all might generate income, for instance I like drawing, though not a top notch artist, but art is my thing right from childhood, I like soccer, I enjoy the banters and all that, I studied microbiology in the university, I once wrote blogs and all that. Now I seem to be confused as to which of these should I choose as my organic niche.
Reply
JackyKong Premium
Try to google your niche + affiliate : for example , microbiology affiliate . Just look at their sites and see if there are more than a few things you think you can promote . This is just to give you a rough idea if the niche is workable. Also try to use the WA keyword tool to see if there is traffic and low QSR competition (below 100 if possible, but 100-150 may be ok )for your niche .
If you want a easy affiliate system , go for amazon affiliate . They have everything you can promote.
My advice is get a niche you are really comfortable in and don’t choose anything that you need to pretend to be an expert in .
(My first try before WA was the make money online niche which I had no clue but tried to pass off myself as an expert which I failed miserably )
All the best !

So I have two separate Niche areas I would like to explore:

The first I have already started with by reserving the domain I wanted for it and it is a Lifestyle blog that follows me on my new weight loss journey. My Lifestyle blog would include specifics about fitness and nutrition choices, athletic wear and curvy girl fashion, beauty routines, and all other wellness ideas I have.

The second domain I want to start will focus more on Fiction writing and useful resources for aspiring writers, book reviews and anything else about storytelling or illustration I want to include. For now though, I will start off with my Lifestyle and Wellness blog.

I am so excited and grateful that my mom told me about this site and its wonderful supportive community. Now for the next lesson!

so I've just watched this video, and it really makes you think! Such as:
4 BILLION ppl online, yet not one of them are (currently) buying from my Shopify store... looking, yes, buying, no... but I have reconnected my store to eBay, which garnered a lot of interest and one sale two months ago (which I actually had to revoke owing to stupid issues my end), and I see a couple of my products there are being "watched", so only good can come out of this!
My 2nd thought: I never knew there were so many affiliate programs out there!
3rd thought: it seems anything and everything can be a niche, which is amazing...
Lastly: if Jimbo from WA hadn't followed me on Instagram 3 days ago & I hadn't clicked through the link on his page, I almost certainly would have never discovered WA & would be chasing after endless rainbows which cost lots - so thanks Jimbo, and thanks Carson & Kyle for creating this community! :)

The problem is most Shopify stores is that they fail miserably because people do not realize with that website you need to marketing budget to get it off the ground. If you are going to go directly into ecommerce without first having a source of traffic (audience), then you will want a minimum of $10,000 for paid ads which carry a great deal of risk. That is minimum, just for testing and getting your campaign to convert.

That isn't realistic for most folks and something they are not told about before they get into the Shopify (ecommerce/dropshipping) business mdoel.

Here at Wealthy Affiliate you are going to learn how to PROPERLY build a business online, in any niche. You are going to learn all about affiliate marketing and how to earn from over 550 million products/services as an affiliate without dealing with all of the headaches of ecom (shipping, transactions, customer support, refunds, etc). It is a brilliant business model.

The first focus is going to be creating the audience and defining yourself as an authority with in a given niche for category. What you promote at the end of the day is going to be completely up to you, but understanding traffic and how to get it for free (through search engine optimization) is essential for your longevity in business, and sustainability.

You don't have to drop your shopify store, but you should learn the fundamentals of building an authority site and once you have that in place, you have the freedom and ability to sell anything. Whether this is your own products, affiliate programs, drop shipping, advertising, etc.
Reply
David4618 Premium
I've seen lots of facts 'n' figures bandied about in regards to Shopify costs, especially along the lines of how you can start one from nothing - which I did - and I've seen people talking about making 4-5-6 figure incomes, and I've even seen a mention of earning 6-7-8 figures, which is just plain insane! Dropshipping University want over USD1000 for a course, whilst you can buy a Dropship Store for around AUD133, and there are other gurus out there promising the world, so long as you have the dollaroonies - but never have I heard of $10K for paid ads! :O
I won't drop my store just yet, not after all the (metaphorical) blood, sweat & (almost literal) tears I spent trying to work it out over the past 2 months - and especially *this* month - but I do appreciate the fact that it's amazingly easy to build a website through WA :)

I like the sound of what you are saying here, and it sounds like this is so perfect for what i have in mind a e-commerce and affiliate to generate income, but I will have to put out a lot of work to generate traffic to each area of business.
I believe in myself that, I can do this through Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and email listing. Which can give traffic base on the effort that put in and how the audience was choose.

What you need to consider is how to monetize that niche. What could you sell from your site? Would you sell the books, through being a Kindle affiliate? Would you sell accessories/toys/fan stuff from those worlds? There's a way to make just about any niche work, but you have to figure out what you could sell as a result of giving all of your content away for free. Think about all of the things related to those books. Maybe e-readers? Maybe book lights for those that like *gasp* paper books? Just start a brainstorm list.

So over the past 6 years I have been part of community-building activities within the community in which I live that involves running programmes specifically designed to empower our rangatahi (youth) using quotes from the Bahai writings, for example; "Ye were created to show love to one another..." , "truthfulness is the foundation of all human virtues" , and "let your heart burn with loving-kindness for all who may cross your path" are just SOME of the quotes the youth learn. We also incorporate the arts to express what they have learned through music or presentations. Ultimately I want to get some perspective on choosing the RIGHT niche for me. I don't know if this helps or if this is just confusing people but I am open to any words-of-wisdom, advice or opinions.

Hey @newmarketpro yeah it's something I care dearly about and throughout the duration of my time accompanying these youth, I have realized that they themselves have so much potential that is in need of guidance to fully flourish. Basically what I want people to get out of it is very simple; to contribute in anyway they can to help bring about unity within their own communities and to make it a regular thing perhaps for like an hour to start off with and gradually involve more and more people (adults, youth, junior youth; 12-15 and even children). Does this help?

Here are my thoughts and I want feedback on them...

Choosing My Niche`

I read the lesson & watched the video and I sat back to think over what I had learned. I knew I spent 8 years in college and I've held many jobs over the years but none of my education or experiences lit a fire in my heart or mind as the result of a real passion.

So therefore, I thought about the incredible line of products my parents started using when I was 3 years old back in 1980 and I realized that I love all the great things they've done in my life but I can't focus my efforts on the entire line of those great products since it would be way too broad.

Because of that, I thought about the one product I've been using a lot of recently along with how much that product has amazed both me & my wife and I decided to go with that. The product I'm describing is the Shaklee Basic H2, which is a completely safe & totally natural cleaner but since that's still a rather broad niche`, I thought about how much my wife has enjoyed using it on our precious 2 year old daughter and that's what I'm going to go with.

"safe natural baby cleaner" - what are your thoughts?

Mr. Michael "Live"
Reply
Triblu Premium
Hey Michael,

Websites about baby... no matter what the niche, seem to be tops nowadays.

However, I would definitely be speaking with a doctor as to the real safety of giving a baby a "cleaner" as it may end up proving to be very detrimental to a very young body.

The reason I am suggesting this is that I invested over $3,000 in 2009 to start in a similar network marketing agency... and their product ended up causing early onset of osteoporosis. Needless to say, I could not recoup my investment... in fact, I have written and shared a post about this product as this agency was pushing it as being healthy... and they claimed their agency was being run by medically trained doctors.

SUGGESTION: you could have your 2 year old daughter test baby products (foods, toys, clothing... pick one or use these labels as categories)... videos would add to your popularity.

Hope this helps you.

Shaklee have good products.
Reply
MrMichael Premium
Hey Molly,

I certainly agree. My parents started me on the products when I was 3 in 1980 and the Shaklee products have done more for me than any doctor or hospital could ever dream of.

For example, at the age of 3-years-old, I was coming down with a flu or virus about every other week and my folks repeatedly had to take me to the ER of the hospital. That's when this nice lady who worked with my mom offered to stop by our house to show her & my father something that would stop me from getting sick the way I was ever again.

That's when our Shaklee journey began and I won't even bother to tell you what their products did for me after I was killed 3 times at the age of 17 in 1994. If if hadn't been for them, I would still be in the hospital with severe brain damage but thanks to those products, I'm living a normal life with a beautiful spouse and a wonderful child.

Life is hard for most people but not for anyone who puts their trust & faith in God...!

Life's good and it only seems to be getting better. I wish you the best dear.

Perhaps down the track, once I become more familiar with what I am doing with my profile etc with WA, then perhaps I will review my site as a whole . . . unsure at this stage until I go further into this

This is part of the free Starter training, it is lesson 3 of the training. So yes, it is covered in the early stages, by lesson 4 of the training alone all members (including Starter) are going to have their very own niche website up and running online!

Good Morning, Afternoon, Evening (wherever you are). When they advise 'choose something you're passionate about', this is where I get stuck. I honestly don't know what I am passionate about. I mean I am passionate about certain things, but these things could be boring to other people, right?

What if someone is passionate about 'Butterflies', could this be turned into a viable online business, (BTW, I am not passionate about Butterflies, that's just an example - no offence to anyone who is passionate about Butterflies!) LOL

Any advice/suggestions/tips?

Many thanks...

Hi Chris, Thanks for replying.

OK, this might sound a bit lame, but I am super fussy (but not quite OCD level).

I love things to be organised. I love things that help people be organised. So this could be in the kitchen, bedroom, living room, office. Innovative things that you find in places like Ikea, which look cool, save space and organise your stuff.

Thoughts?

ok there is a lot going on there.

I know people that are doing cooking and kitchen niches... I know people that are into decor .. I know people that are also involved in office work and garden furniture... you have a lot of scope if you can choose a passion.

My advice is to choose one ... and make it your thing.. there is a market for everything... and there are millions of people looking for what you are interested in too

Think simple my friend.,,

do not over complicate things... people are making an income with the simplest of niches.. be it mobile phones.. garden furniture... dieting.. kids toys.. baby cots.. prams.. etc etc

Just focus on one... and make it the best... try not to be too big in the beginning... there is scope for that later.. If you have the passion .. you will do it..

I for example have a website that is about a small island that I live on ... tons of history .. lots of interest.. millions of tourists every year.. I focus on that .. and only that ... and it is doing ok

Think of the acronym KISS... Keep It Simple Stupid :) no offence

One way to determine whether there are people passionate about the things you like is to look at two things:

1) Keyword research

Go to Jaaxy and do some keyword research for the thing you're passionate about and see if there are people looking for information in that area.

2) Affiliate Products

Do some product research either on Amazon or just do some Google search. See if there are products you can promote within your niche.

If it meets these two criteria, it means your niche has a potential for you to get into, help people and monetize.

I have a friend whose business is to help people get organized. She came into my office and reorganized my filing system. She went to a friend's basement and organized all the piles of stuff in there. I think if you can write about different aspects and ideas for organizing our homes, our offices, our daily tasks, oh, any number of things. Our lives could often use some expert organization. I think it is a great idea and could lead to some highly innovative posts. Go for it!

Working towards to a niche that helps people realize eating outside raised pork is way healthier for them than buying pork in town that came from hog confinement and are water filled with poison called Paylean ;( We raise outside pork and we can guarantee a huge difference in our meat. We go to farmers markets and we have had customers buy are meat and cook it beside Fareway and they asked us ; guess which one had awesome flavor and which one had NO flavor? Yes ours won over Fareway :) Happy people make us happy. Our goal is to keep our customers happy no matter how hard it is to please some people that goes with the job and we wouldn’t want it any other way :)

Hi Kyle (@kyle),

I'm interested in the "make money online" niche so will be heading across to the Affiliate Bootcamp training to learn how to promote Wealthy Affiliate.

As part of this I'm especially interested in helping "baby boomers" and elderly people utilise the Internet to help supplement income in retirement.

Another niche I'd like to explore once I get my initial marketing underway is to help local businesses automate their customer acquisition process and/or leverage the power of the Internet to gain customers and increase sales and productivity.

In the meantime, I'll see you across at the Affiliate Bootcamp :)

Ok I’m thinking TOYS but how broad can I make this? I’m thinking children age 5-12, I love toys, and I’m thinking video games could also fall into the toy category. I’m also rather good with children’s fashion but that would be a whole other niche, correct? What do you guys think? I know kids and I know toys/video games. Animated/family movie reviews or posts could even be included, oooooh I’m really hoping this is a niche cuz I’m feeling Uber good about this one!
Reply
AffTraining Premium
I think that's a great niche idea! What I would do is start off really narrow, but also leave yourself the ability to expand further in the future. So, first, focus on a really targeted niche within' the toy industry, and become THE source for info/reviews/whatever on that specific type of toy. Once you've about exhausted that type of toy, move on to the next one.

I also suggest focusing on higher-end products. Try to find a toy niche where the products are $100+. That way, if you use something like the Amazon Associates program, you'll actually make a decent amount per sale as opposed to selling toys that are $10 or $20.

To help narrow down your exact niche, check out the training here on keyword research to find winnable keywords that target higher end kids toys.

Seems like you're on the right track! :)

Okay, I thought a niche was something that I am familiar with/passionate about that I could possibly build a website around (and write about), then look for products that I could affiliate market on my website. That seems to be the logical way to go, but after the video, maybe I need to do the reverse? i.e, look for products then build a website around that subject?
Reply
CravenATAT Premium
You can actually create a site for both. Since this is your first niche site, I would honestly go with what you know. This will make writing content on it flow naturally. It is proven that people can write and speak with passion on content that interests them in comparison to things they know little to nothing about.

Once you get the hang of how this all works, then you should create a site on something you know less about. This will make the step by step process seem less stressful than if you went all in on a new site with a new topic, both new endeavors.

I think it will be challenging to reign things in, I am thinking about a niche for organic hand and body lotions, but then I can see adding organic skin treatments and soaps, and essential oils, and make up....see? Should I stick with just the hand and body lotion? Maybe consider expanding as things progress?
Reply
JoeysRed Premium
That shouldn't be hard to sell. Those are things that you don't just find in the store. You would have to find natural shops for that. So even offline those products aren't easy to find. The potential for online sales are good. Um although I would separate those products to key specific niches if I were you. The lotions and the soap would probably be better as individual niches. If a salesman were going door to door trying to sell organic lotions and soaps he would have to sell them from the same distributor. I think you would be better off selling organic soaps and organic lotions as two separate niches. But good luck to you. I think you have a good idea.

The niche building concept is the most interesting to me because affiliate marketing for me is not my prime goal, the niche build is. I saw the sample fitness supplement website in a previous video and liked the large variety of categories.

My chosen niche is similar. Many categories.... How do i best create a sort of "expert" web presence like that...? Is it better to do multiple smaller websites or one reference point and just build more pages over time related to my interest area?

It's better to build one reference point, aka authority website, rather than build many small websites. Generally speaking, the larger a website is the more authority it will have in the search engines and the higher it will rank.

You could go with travel accessories as a whole & then create separate categories narrowing it down even further. Even if people are visiting your website for travel backpacks or notebooks it would be likely that they'd be interested in the other offers on your site too.

When you chose a niche, then you buy and become the owner of that niche. You start your website, does your website always have to be in regard to that niche. Or can you chose different niches or write on different niche as you continue after the first one. Wait do you have to buy each niche that you are writing about.
Reply
Freedomseekr Premium
Yes, you'd first choose a niche, and then buy a domain for that niche. You'd then focus on building up your website (which is running on that domain) about things that are related to that niche. Domains aren't that expensive, but if you want to start it out free, use one of the free siterubix sites here to set it up. You can always move it over to your own domain later, which is pretty easy to do.

Yes, you can do more than one niche, but it's recommended to have a separate domain for each...it would be confusing to your visitors otherwise. Plus, I'd recommend only starting with one niche and get it going to where you want it first...before starting another niche. Get that first one going to where you want it, then think about the next niche.

It's just too hard as you're going through the training here and setting up your first website to be focused on more than one niche...don't make the mistake I did when I started out here, lol.

Hope that helps you out some, and if you have any more questions as you go through the training here, just ask...
Best wishes :) ~Sherry

Hello as I am just starting out, I am certain of my niche but would it be a bad idea to make my niche location specific? Since I'm using an online platform and my site in not a representation of a physical location? I only ask because I feel I can drive a substantial amount of traffic just off the people in my area looking for certain products and services or would this be a bad idea?
Reply
CravenATAT Premium
You can make your niche anything you want to a specific location, as it will gain traffic that is targeted. If you were to target a specific college in your town for instance, you would gain a lot of traffic for that college. However, when others in neighboring colleges, or parents for that matter, see your content, they will spread the news of your site.

Think of it as a wildfire- it starts in a targeted location. When it gets its fuel, it spreads until it reaches its maximum capability.

I think it's possible to create a successful niche on yoga and sell a variety of products, but narrow niches (such as yoga mats) are easier when you are first starting out. Start narrow and then widen it out as you build out the site further.

Hey Kyle, this was a great video on choosing a niche. But I have been following or searching different people on what it takes in being successful with marketing. So when choosing a niche is this also a form of starting a funnel with each niche that you choose. ? Also when I advertise or promote wealth affiliate, how do I make a advertise the name of wealthy affiliate and do I type in my name phillip21 to show that I advertise the name.
Reply
onmyownterms Premium
First off, this site isn't about creating funnels - those are usually used in 'information' or digital marketing (ebooks, etc.) This site teaches you how to do affiliate marketing for such partners as Amazon, eBay, Walmart, etc. That's the Online Entrepreneur Certification course.

Then there is also Affiliate Bootcamp, which is aimed at teaching you how to market Wealthy Affiliate. If you're interested in promoting WA, I'd start there, rather than the OEC. You'll need separate websites for each niche (physical products v. WA), and I recommend someone new to this focus on one site at a time.
Reply
Jim-Bo Premium
You can apply a funnel once you begin email marketing. This is simply collecting emails on your site, and your email drip campaign would act like a funnel, in a way. Another way you could describe is the search engines being a pathway to your site, it depends. I like building funnels myself, beginning with an optin page, a thank you page, a one time offer page etc...although Mel is right, there's not a lot about funnels in WA training. However, content is what gets people to your funnel in the first place. With no content you won't get much in the way of traffic.

I simply draw a blank. Every one of these just brings up more questions, doubts, and fears. I guess I just don’t understand the whole concept at all. There are a zillion places selling all this stuff so why use mine. I go to Amazon and choose prime offers when I want any of this. My true interest is my crafts, like my scarves, remaking clothes to wear differently, painting, making all sorts of things and decorating by faux painting, sewing, paper floors, etc. etc., but other than all my scarves, I haven’t tried to really sell my stuff. Besides, I sold only a few scarves because O am a flop salesperson and can’t toot my own horn withou feeling self conscious and uncomfortable, as well as vulnerable.

Just like you, at first I was a little lost, but I went through the lessons for the certification, I started to understand a bit better, it became clearer. I am on lesson 6, at the moment, and still not all there yet, but i am excited and it is all so interesting. please stick with it, and ask questions. oh, and keep going back and read or watched the videos over if you have to, it does start to make sense, I promise. My daily focus is Kundalini Yoga and a yogic lifestyle as taught by Yogi Bhajan. I have been doing a powerful set of meditations he gave me when he was still alive, for over fifteen years now, that brought me out of the trauma of intense spousal abuse into heavenly realms where Gurus and saints revealed my lifetimes with them. I was Durga, the Mother of Jesus and integral to the lineage of the Sikh Gurus. I now call upon these Divine Entities and aspects of myself every morning to help me wash the world. Yet Kundalini Yoga is a huge set of teachings. I have written up yogic routines to do upon waking and before going to sleep at night. So I could do a site on yogic routines. And a website on healing yogic foods as taught by Yogi Bhajan. I also have much to offer in other ways, such as giving spiritual readings that reveal a person's highest purpose in life. I could use help deciding which niche is best to begin with.

Yes, after just two years of doing powerful Kundalini Yoga kriyas I came out of the deep trauma I was in from my last husband and began communing with Divine Entities from my past lives with ease. Now I call upon my lifetime as Durga during meditation to reach to heavenly realms where my spiritual work takes place. Jesus was my son, which is very different than being my partner in this endeavor. Jesus blesses my life with Divine Beauty. I need not call upon him. He is always with me.

I think it's difficult to choose something you are passionate about as your niche and make money. There are to competitive niches in which it very very difficult to get ranked and there are easier ones. For example, the topic I am passionate about is productivity and I've wrote quite a lot of articles on that topic and none of them ever got ranked.
While articles on other topics have been ranked better. It's easier to lose patience in an over-competitive niche where your articles don't ever get ranked.
I think that the best thing to do is to narrow down your niche

I mean this in a funny way; when I hear Kyle say niche, he pronounces it "neesh". So when I heard that, I thought wait- what? Have I been pronouncing it wrong my whole life? So I like the above definition illustration with the sound option. I'm from the southwest USA and we have been known to alter pronunciation of words. So after hearing dictionary.com's pronunciation, I feel better.

I am obviously a word nerd (I'm a teacher-I cannot help it!) and I find dialects interesting. I will keep saying it like 'nitch' knowing that we are trying to find something special that appeals to an audience.

Your niche ideas are definitely viable directions for your niche. You need to choose one when starting out, what are you most passionate about?

When deciding on a niche and trying to narrow down to a more specific niche, I recommend you ask yourself the following question:

I am thinking I want to help new and expecting moms with their newborn baby. My first thought was necessary baby items. There are a lot of things mom will want to get for baby. The video says to make the niche smaller. If we have to discuss the topic on our website, wouldn't a little broader topic make sense?
Reply

An example would be if you use "necessary baby items," you might start with baby cribs. As you create more and more content on the importance of a secure place for baby to sleep, you might look at different brands and types of baby cribs. Along that line would come sheets, blankets and other beddings. Developing that niche and doing quality research will take awhile. Yet, you will become an authority on the subject of "baby cribs." You can always add more related products once your site is developed and earning revenue. Hope this make sense.

PatPearce,
When I think about what you want for a niche, I think about how you can best help the new or expectant mom. For instance, Could she use a friend to lean on when she isn't sure about something concerning her pregnancy? Just because she may not know you, it might be easier for her to talk to someone who is not related in any way. You could also help her find services that might assist her with problems, by suggesting her local nursing services or hospital. Sometimes new moms or expectant mothers don't know where to turn to get answers.

Just some thoughts for you to ponder.

Then you could advise her on types of clothing, or diapers etc. You have a tremendous amount of necessary baby item to choose from. Go for it.

hi, I came with intentions of doing makeup, but after the video, I'm thinking if I have to narrow down makeup or can I still do makeup on a whole, cause I would honestly rather do it on a large scale, where id be free to evaluate makeup on a whole and not just foundation, powder, concealer, etc?

It's best to start with a narrow niche as shown in the video. Once you build an authority site, you can always add to it later.
Reply
Think I'm not understanding something. Once I build a website and choose a niche, I can continue to write different things on that particular topic right? And, for a topic like makeup, i know its a bit broad, but choosing just one thing for example foundation, kills this whole zeal of the idea as I believe dealing with makeup is not just one aspect of it, its giving persons a more rounded answer to their question.

It sounds like you mean applying make-up, which would be somewhat different. This is especially true if you already have experience in that area. You're welcome to give an example of what it is you want to do with your niche and run it by this platform. I'm sure others, along with myself would be glad to help.

I think you are absolutely right. You would have more to talk about and plenty to review about but this is only in my opinion. You can ask others for their opinion.

To try to explain better, for people who wants to know stuff about makeup, it's not just based on one thing. I use makeup so I know a bit about it. if I'm searching to find makeup, and I'm not familiar with it, I would like to know about different brands, pros, and cons, what works best with what, also what may be a bit more hash than others...If you understand what I am saying. Makeup is a broad topic, but because of its nature or the way it works together, its hard to break into different parts. Do you think it will be a problem in doing makeup on a whole?

Hey, Kliscia I think that makeup is a specific niche and not to general. I think that can work perfectly fine. Once you are sure of who your specific audience is and it not to general. For example, if I wanted to do a niche in shoes, I will have to be more specific as to whether I want to do male of female shoes. Also what types of shoes, if its formal, casual, work, church, gym, or track.

In my opinion, I think that makeup is already a will targeted niche, it has it's audience, you already know who the product is for etc..

Don't just take my opinion only you can ask any of the experienced affiliates from the community and they'll be more than willing to help you

I know picking a niche is important and for that to be something done right off the bat without doing more research seems like putting the cart before the horse. I don't want to just jump in and pick one out right away because I will be putting time in that I don't want to be wasted when I find out that it may not be the right direction for me to take. I know I need to start somewhere but I would like to make the best-educated choice to start with. There may be almost 4 billion people online but a large amount of those people don't speak English :) So time is money and want to at least give myself a decent chance of success.

You can and will here. You can create more than one website. up to 25 websites I think. So don't spend to much time thinking about it. Choose what you are most passion about and use that to start with. You can build on it. Then later you can build another one. Start with the step by step training with Kyle and he will teach you everything you need to know about picking the right niche and building a website. After completing the training you can create another website and this one will not take as long. Hope this helps you.
To your success

Ok so I have 2 passions in my life and I love them equally. Playing video games (PS4), and fishing. For fishing I was thinking of going in the direction of my favorite lures with are crankbaits (square bill and lipless to be exact). For gaming tho im not sure what exact part of gaming I would choose as my niche, maybe thumb grips for the joy sticks? Any suggestions?
Reply
DarrinB Premium
A couple of diverse niches there. You could look at controllers, ps4 accessories like chargers etc. Or skins for the machine itself? Maybe.

Yes, I like how you have narrowed down your fishing niche into something more specific. You could even head in either fresh water or salt water lures or crank baits.

Just choose one when starting out, you just want to avoid being too broad. You are doing great though Daniel!

Hi everyone....I have question....there are a few niches I am interested in, and since to start, since I should choose only 1, should I be going through the Jaxy training so that I could use the tools there to choose the niche most likely to be successful, first? I am afraid of picking a niche only to find out that there is less interest in it than I think or that it is harder to promote products that another niche I might have picked.
The niches I am considering are Personal Development....more specifically brain entrainment, subliminal audios, meditation etc.. (should each of those be a separate website?), coloring products (colored pencils, markers, coloring books etc..), Baby products (does each type have to be separate or can 1 website handle all?), and I'd also like to promote Amazon products that I have purchased and love....but don't all fit into 1 category so not sure about that. I also wondered about Vitamix vs. Blendtec blenders because I personally have owned both and feel I could really contribute an honest opinion. I was thinking if starting with the brain entrainment/subliminals because I am very passionate about how much they have helped me the last 6 months....but what do others think? I appreciate any suggestions anyone might have!

You are going to be performing research on the actual keywords that you target within the content in your niche, don't worry so much about keyword search volume when you choose your actual niche.

I wouldn't head into the personal development space as a whole as it is too broad, but I like how you have narrowed it down to brain entertainment, meditation, etc....those are all massive niches in themselves.

Vitamix vs. Blendtech, or blenders in general could be a niche and a direction that you could head. By all means.

You just want to choose one of these as the starting point for your business when you do start out. ;)

Karma, I like Kyle's answer and you should take that advice.

In addition, I'd like to offer my own insight. Definitely leave the keyword research until after you've chosen a niche. You can make money with anything at all online so one keyword can't give the whole picture to a niche.

I like personal development but that's very broad as Kyle said. You've identified a few segments of that industry and they could all be different niches that you can deal with separately.

Try to think of a niche in terms of what problem you can solve or what interest you can help people with. Subliminal audios for example is a solution for something. Find the problem behind this solution and you have a niche. You can have a website around subliminal audios but if you have a website around the problem instead, I think you will be more able to focus on the niche directly since a niche is a group of people.

For example, if you have subliminal audios for improving concentration then you have someone who is having trouble focusing on work or study who desperately needs help. Then, since you were wondering if you can use brain entertainment, meditation and subliminal audio on separate sites, you should consider that someone who wants to improve concentration may need brain entertainment, they may also need meditation as a solution and also subliminal audio and other solutions to help fix their problem. It all becomes clearer when you think in terms of the who (group of people) instead of the what.

Think about what problem you have personally used the subliminal audios for and you'll realize that there are probably millions of people (a niche) out there that need help with that problem too.

If you're going to do baby products, or Amazon products that you've personally tried, use a brandable domain name that doesn't restrict you too much. A domain like HappyCub dot com might start out as a baby stroller review website but then you could add other baby products and expand the website because the domain doesn't restrict you from doing that.

You could do the same for your blender example which is a great niche idea by the way. A domain name like BlendKarma might be a good name for a blender/juicing focused website. I incorporated your name so you can make it personal and brandable - it's available too.

It's not rocket science. Just pick one and start. You have some great ideas.

Thanks Jay! I really appreciate your response!

The part about thinking of the 'who' over the 'what'...as well as thinking about what problem it is I want to help solve, was especially helpful!!! In my case, when it comes to the brainwave entrainment, I was looking for some help with my anxiety. So, if I am wanting to pick that area to start, would my niche then be anxiety?....with the products being brainwave entrainment, subliminals, etc...? Those products are also used for many other things such as creativity, focus, etc.. Would I then be making different sites or different pages within my site for those?

Also, love the idea of BlendKarma!! When I did the lesson on setting up a website....I did pick a name that used my name....itskarmasreviews thinking it would be generic and able to promote anything....but if I use that for the brainwave entrainment/subliminal audio stuff, does that mean I can't use it for anything else? Or, should I be choosing a domain name & title that includes `anxiety' in it?

Thanks again!

Karma, I think you're starting to figure this out. You would be helping people just like you who have anxiety and don't know where to turn to fix it. Creativity, focus, anxiety - they may all be connected in some way so you can use pages on your site instead of making new sites but try to remember you're helping people with anxiety whenever you try to come up with content ideas. In any case, people with anxiety may have trouble focusing because of their condition or they may also have trouble with creativity.

I think your domain might be a little too generic but it could work for some things. Since you're now starting out, you shouldn't really trying to use one domain to promote "anything". You'll have a better chance at success if you focus on one topic for now. Your domain doesn't have to have the word anxiety in it.

Uggh...I am probably over thinking this but I can't figure out what specifically my niche is or what to call the site? I know I want to start with the brain entrainment/subliminals etc..audios and specifically to help people with anxiety and stress. What does that make my niche? As far as the name...I just don't know. Am I better off to go generic but specific like helpwithanxietyandstress or more personal like one with my name in it? Or, something totally different? Help...I'm stuck!

The other "NICHE" That I'm really passionate about it is AFFILIATED MARKETING. Although I haven't made any money with it I wouldn't mind being an AFFILIATE MARKETER for this platform. With this platform I can see as well feel the support of the community and I believe that I can do well promoting it.

You can always head that direction Marilyn. A lot of our members are promoting WA with great success.

Do you have in mind WHO you are going to promote WA to? You can promote it to the world but if you can be more specific of your audience, it's better as your content would be talking about helping these people.

If I understood you well, you said we should not use two methods of niche creation , right, its either come out with a new way of mine, or convert to the one already here. Now Is it possible may be to write about something to test the audience and see if there would be any revenue, and if that doesn't work well or bring any thing , then I go back to the method which is in here?

I recommend starting a niche based on your passion - it takes 6-12 months to build enough traffic to start generating revenue, so there is no 'quick test' for interest.

What Kyle meant was that if you can identify your own niche, you can proceed with it. But in case you are not able to think of any direction (niche) you should be heading, you can always come here and getting more ideas on your niche.

If you follow through the training, I am positive you should be able to come up with a niche of your own.

Your niche can be anything and it's all up to you to decide what niche you want to pick. If you're not sure if it's the right one, you can always research to see if there's enough affiliate products to promote with. Jay just did a great webinar on this: If you want to test something out, I'm afraid it's hard to do because it will take a few months before you see any traction.

What you can do is just create a free site and then transfer it your own domain later when you're comfortable with your niche. At least this way you don't have to buy another domain if you don't like your niche.

If you want more in depth help on niche selection, please go ahead and PM me. :)

Hi there. Great video. I currently have two niches I would like to investigate- applying positive psychology and mindfulness in the classroom- aimed at educators, primarily aimed at reducing exam stress. Links to books, magazines, mindfulness apps etc. My other idea is Newbie Vegan UK- the idea is that a minimum of one each day I would review and try a vegan product that was new to me, that is available in the UK and give an honest review and product details. How do those ideas sound?

Reduce Exam Stress, I like it Sarah and this is definitely a direction that you could head here with your niche. Within that niche, there will be no shortage of products/services that you can promote, so I would never worry about that.

Hello fellow, I am still new to the wealthy affiliate program. As I have been a Health Promotion officer for the World Health Organisation i thought of going for it as a niche. But since Health Promotion is a broad topic dealing with issues such behavioral change, healthy eating, anti smoking, anti alcohol and drug abuse I have a problem in narrowing it down to a specific niche. Kyle and the rest of the WG community what are your thoughts and opinions on my choice?

Yes you are right Health Promotion is too general a niche, you can narrow it down to take into account issues surrounding Health Promotion and which you can use to create separately as your niche

Thanks Jean. I wanted to break down Health Promotion to behavioral change, but that too is also too broad a niche. From my experienced as Health Promoter behavior change can refer to any transformation or modification of human behavior. It may also refer to: Behavior change (public health), a broad range of activities and approaches which focus on the individual, community, anti smoking campaigns and environmental influences on behavior. And they are so interconnected.

Thanks Lauren. I have already started with the website template. As regard Health Promotion deals with lifestyle diseases like smoking, drinking, drug abuse and behavioral communication change, it's sort of tricky to divorce them and stick to a specific niche. But i'll try my best to narrow it down as I go along and hope you guys will be there to help me.

Hi Francis!
I suggest you go through the lessons and learn how to narrow the niche.
There are a number of ways how you can do that!

For example, pick up the topic within the choices you mentioned in your question above.
Afterward, enter it into a search engine and check the results of what people are searching mostly within your preferred keyword. Afterward, keep searching within those results, etc.
You will find a very narrow niche! Thinks about niches as you would work with them in your real, off-line life!

Also, visit some biggest retail sites like Amazon, eBay, etc. and conduct some researches within your topic. You will find many examples of the narrow niches!

Another example: healthy eating is a great topic nowadays, which is obviously a very broad one. Try to think what you would be interested of within this niche? What kind of healthy food would you like to eat? Also, think about the various audience when speaking about the healthy food: kids, young people, older people, people with some illnesses, sportsmen, mothers, etc. Also, just fruits, or vegetables as healthy foods, and stuff like that!

The most important thing is that you pick up the niche you are best of and you have the most knowledge about it and you are passionate about it. Because, in the long term, it will be much easier for you to deal with!

I hope it helps!

First of all, thanks for a quite educative and informative session and video on niche. I strongly believe that a broad niche is an oxymoron. Niche always means narrow. A niche is an area or position that is exactly suitable for a small group of the same type. So there is no such thing as broad niche.

Yeah, it is, but you would be surprised how many people want to make something like "health" their niche which has 1,000's of actually niches within this larger category.

I'm extremely excited with these past learnings and am keen to get on with it. :)

Rastislav,
What are you passionate about? A niche can be what ever you make it. To answer you, the baby clothes would be general , the broader spectrum would indeed be better. Look at it this way, if your niche was cars for example, you could do articles about types of autos or tires for that car or what ever is pertaining to cars. Does that help?

Let me be sure I have this correct.

When I nail down a niche, I choose a single subject, then I link to various brands of that single object? For example (based on the baby example from the video) baby diaper is a niche, so I would link to different brands of disposable diapers and brands of cloth diapers? Maybe add links to diaper pails? Diaper specific soap? Diaper bags? But not branch out to baby bottles, clothes, toys, beds, etc. Keep that niche only on diapers and diaper related products?

Yes, depending upon the niche you can be slightly broader or narrower. You wouldn't want to simply choose sports or even basketball; but as Kyle presented, "basketball skills and drills" would be a great narrowed niche.

You, drill down as you have here. You don't want to be too broad with your niche as you will be in a constant state of "overwhelm" trying to deliver too much, to too diverse of an audience.

I think I understand a niche, but I'm having trouble choosing it. I have several facebook pages, RV boondocking, baking, homesteading. The RV page is most active and growing like wildfire right now. I can't figure out how to nail down a single item for any of them. Maybe camp cookware? camp generators, camp bedding? In the cooking dept I could use affiliate links for ingredients in the recipes? maybe mixers? bowls? baking pans? Do I need to zero in on one single niche or put links to various items? I'm leaning towards a couple of big ticket items like the generators on the camping site, and a ton of little items such as disposable baking pans on the recipe site. See what I was saying... I'm having a problem picking a single niche, so much to choose from that I can't limit myself to one.

I've also been working on writing eBooks and an e-course for new camper owners to teach them how different parts of the camper needs to be maintained, places to camp for free, etc. My idea is to use the books to lead them to a blog that will have affiliate links to the courses and items I promoted in the books. The facebook pages are active, the books, blog, & courses are still in my head.
