What is a niche?

A niche is simple, it is an audience. An audience looks for stuff online, for example, what are some of the last searches you did in Google. These are ALL niches.

In this video I am going to help you UNDERSTAND what a niche is, how to come up with niches that you are interested in, how to choose a niche...and if you can't come up with your own niche, then I give you a "plan of attack" for getting your business up and running in a pre-selected niche.

Here is what you are going to be doing within this tutorial:

  • Understand what a niche is
  • Finding your very own niche
  • Choosing your initial direction
  • Finding and search for affiliate programs
  • Using Answers.com to uncover niches
  • Understanding Affiliate Bootcamp

A couple of resources I leveraged within this training that you can use for your niche research. These include:

  • Amazon.com
  • Answers.com
  • Google.com
  • Magazines.com

If you have any questions about niches or what direction to go, please let me know and I will be more than happy to help you out.

I already had a couple of niches in mind so I almost didn't watch the video but I decided that if I'm going to take advantage of the training opportunities here that I will not cut corners. Now I'm so glad that I did not skip the video! I learned a lot about finding affiliate programs within my niches. I have decided to go into 12 step recovery products and exercise and fitness. Two of the things I am very passionate about. And I now also have ideas (from watching the video) of a few more areas I may go into after I get these up and running. Thank you so much for everything so far!

I am still baffled of what a "Niche" is. I have watched the videos numerous of times.and still I am having difficulties understanding the whole concept of a "Niche". The videos Choosing Your Direction-It starts with a "Niche" was a good video, but when it was over I was scratching, saying to myself....What did I missed? I am not stupid or am I? Lol. Would someone please break down this concept to me in simpler terms as though I am a 2 years so I may have a better grasp of it. Don't be afraid to draw a diagram or/add numbers to show the definition meaning of a "Niche". LOL, I would truly appreciate any ones help please.

Thank you

Hi Michelle,

Let me see if I can help. Think of a niche as an idea or something you are interested in. It could be cooking, hiking, writing, health care or anything. For instance, you could use the niche of best receipes, then search that to get your theme; best recipes for my family or super quick dinner receipes, best health recipes. The basis is "best receipes" as your niche.

Hope that helps a bit.

A niche could be for example fishing and within the fishing niche you can differ fishing lures, tackle boxes, fishing poles and reels.

I still not sure on which direction i would like to narrow my niche, I have some ideas. Since i have and military background i was thinking something to do with military supplies ie guns and ammo, I also am an electrician by trade and was thinking about devices that us radio frequencies to control your lights in both residential and commercial applications and even voice command devices like alexa or google applications. I also have a passion for gamefowl and was thinking about chicken supplies, ie cups and vitiams. I have to narrow it down, ill sleep on it and see.

You have actually identified several niches. Your immediate problem is not narrowing down your niche but making a niche selection first. Of all the three possible niches - something connected to the military, something connected to your being an electrician, and your passion for game fowl - which one will interest you the most? Which one will you most enjoy writing about in your blog? Once you have made the selection, then you can start narrowing it down. Best regards.

I am thinking about Smart Home Products, I love technology and gadgets like roombas/smart locks/smart doorbell cameras and such and use them in my house. I also know a fair about Airbnb as I have hosted for almost a year now.

But I am thinking of starting with a micro niche in doorbells.

My eyes are opened though, I was blinded by Amazon and just the little bit of of the course I've been through so far shows me the potential for other affiliate offers with far greater earnign potential. I especially like presenting the clear choice to the consumer in the supplement video showing amazon/bodybuilding.com/and whatever 3rd choice with prices listed. Very cool

Good Morning,

I have multiple ideas for a niche but the ONE I live and know the most about is the Automotive Field.

But this is very broad and I have done every position available and know parts, accessories, service, sales, tires, etc etc.

I need help dialing it in, would I do maintenance parts? Or do I go further into just air filters. This is the problem I am having choosing. (Overthinking it). How far do I dial in the niche?

And Second Question,

How does the boot camp niche work? I have what they call the gift of gab and people listen and follow my direction. I know I am great at promoting and marketing ideas and creating a following. Is that what the boot camp is about with "Making Money Online" niche. Please let me know.

I would like to choose one way or the other and then will move forward. Give me some incite to help me on making a decision.

Thank you,

Scott

The bootcamp niche is going deeper into the details as the normal certification and is focused on promoting Wealthy Affiliate.

Concerning your niche, perhaps choose car parts for sport cars or oldtimers, as that is a well paid parts niche and you are then specialized on the car and not on the 1000's of air filters and other parts for all cars.

Before I get serious about picking a niche, I have a couple of practical questions.

1) My number one choice right now is to create a blog dedicated to a popular game. Millions of people play it. The creators of the game sell items that appear inside the game, and have an affiliate program. However, I'm nervous about copyrights/trademarks/infringements. I know that when profit is in the mix, there are restrictions around what a person can post. Am I in the clear posting screenshots of a game I play, talking about its mechanics, etc.? Or should I tread carefully around using an existing product as my niche?

2) Similarly--are there common rules around borrowing images from your affiliate source? Let's say I want to promote a stuffed penguin sold by Awesome Stuffed Toys R Us. After I join their affiliate program, can I take images off their website and post it on my own in an effort to promote their product? Do all affiliate programs have slightly different rules around this, or do they all tend to be the same?

I'd just like to take the temperature on these types of issues up front, because that will help me make a smarter choice as I find my niche. Thanks for any help!

Hi Mal,
You have a valid concern.
Let me give you my insight. It might be different from others.
Let's face it that all affiliate program have their own rules, terms and conditions. Amazon associate for example, does not allow to upload pictures from sellers page onto our site but is allows using images via API or taking the image url and embed it to our site.

What I could suggest is either to read the affiliate terms or contact your affiliate manager for that particular program and ask if what you said is allowed.

It just make a business sense that you should be allowed to use material from the site as you are promoting their products. That being said, it's good to check for confirmation as it you don't want to get into trouble when you have created promotion on your site.

Hope that helps a bit.

Hi Mal,
Just answered your previous question and I see you went in the same direction that I mentioned, lol.

In my experience, each affiliate program is different. I would ask directly in each one how to proceed.
As for images, if it is a trademark you are not allowed to use it. Again ask them directly.

Sorry, it took a little while for me to see your questions... if you want instant answers, you should try the live chat (left side of screen). You'll always have someone amongst us that is qualified to answer you!

You are on the right track with asking questions... just keep asking! Feel free to ask the live chat and see what others have to say.

I want to find a niche within some type of Technology category and I was thinking more towards cell phones or laptops. I know a lot about Android cell phones and I know a lot about computer hardware and computers in general and I know that most people buy laptops over a desktop. But you narrow it down for computers laptops specifically I was thinking maybe hard drives and for Android phones I haven't really narrowed it down what could possibly be some aspects of Android cell phones I could narrow it down to?

How about Mobile Devices in general as opposed to PCs.
There is also a huge market for Face Plates for the latest cell phones.

could you do computer accessories and smartphone accessories - i know most things are gonig cloud based but when you lose your internet connection it is most frustrating - so can you have wifi hard drives for storage - ext hard drives for chromebooks to extend their usability - mice, keyboards - so people can use this platform easily with the mobileness added - so projection keyboards or plugin ones or speech to text apps which work.
sowhat about doing a site about how to create your own online business with wa on your phone - is it possible - how do you make it comfortable to create content - grab pictures and how do you tell if it looks ok on a desktop rather than a small screen.
good luck with your selection Corey.

That is a good idea maybe that might work. I was thinking doing graphic cards and gearing it more towards gamers but I think anyone using graphics card would check it out and have specs reviews for the graphic cards. Good graphic cards can be pricey so if there's a percentage I get from the cell the more the product cost the higher payout it gets and gamers pay a lot for their hardware and also buy the most graphic cards and there are hundreds of different graphic cards with a bunch of sites to link to 4 different sells and sell comparisons. I could also do graphic cards for laptops and desktop could this possibly be a good idea?

You should definitely narrow this down. You have a lot of great ideas here, but Fashion, Shoes, Outerwear are all massive categories, with literally 1,000's of much more targeted niches across them.

When deciding on a niche and trying to narrow down to a more specific niche, I recommend you ask yourself the following question:

I want to help people that ______________.

Fill in the blank and you are going to be much closer to a specific audience. After you do this and if you want to run any further ideas by me, let me know and I will give you a hand. :)

Sure, this would be a natural direction. What aspect of "hot rods" do you want to help folks out with? Answer that question and you will be much closer to your niche, you just don't want to try to take on too much or you will be left a little bit overwhelmed.

I would like to know why it is that you "Kyle", don't recommend that people do O.E.C and Affiliate Bootcamp together? Another question I have is can I be an affiliate to two different companies but I endorse the same product with both of them? Example: Both Amazon and Wal-Mart carry the same product but I have a website for both stores endorsing the same product.
Reply
JKulk1 Premium
If you believe you're capable of doing both then go ahead. Kyle is only suggesting that when you start out you stick to one option. Most people that start with WA have never tried building a website before. The incredible amount of content that's required to make a website successful, plus all the rest of the training required, on it's own can be overwhelming for a lot of people.
As for selling the same products from two affiliate companies. Why would you? I know that Amazon wouldn't like it if they found out. I'm not sure about Walmart. Jim
Reply
That depends on their affiliate agreements. Non-compete clauses could certainly be part the affiliate agreement but I don't know precisely if those particular stores require of their affiliates.
Reply
I didn't say I would sell a product on my site from two different stores. I just want to know my options, I like to try to cover ALL my bases before I do anything and if I did would it be a problem for (WA) them.

So after lots of thinking, researching and stressing about niches I think I have finally found one I am confident in!!!!! An idea that is focussed enough from a content perspective but has opportunity across a range of products, and seemingly has a high level of searches but not much competition! I have also already thought of 30 content articles plus videos I could produce around them.... so I am now starting to get more excited - before I start building a site though I am going to move through the rest of the training whilst writing up content in the background for when I am ready to create the site. I am really enjoying the thinking and learning process, learning something new everyday, just hope I can put it into practise and little by little start to see some returns.

Honestly though I am a little worried about investing all the time and the monthly fees, realistically I think I could carry costs and time commitment for around 18months until I would need to start seeing a return. Fingers crossed that is realistic and I have picked the right topic ….
Reply
Kyle Premium
Wow, it sounds like you are onto a good niche. If you are already worried about TIME though, that is a concern. In 18 months you can accomplish a lot, don't fear time, we all have lots of it and if you put forth the effort you are going to start seeing some major headway after just one month, let alone 18.

Move in the direction of your niche that you sound passionate about, it definitely sounds like a natural direction for you. I look forward to seeing your business take shape Nina! :)

Thanks, could you give me an idea of other costs I might incur other than the monthly fees for WA? I will be writing and creating content myself. Potentially may need to invest in some products to review, but are there any other fees I should be budgeting for as start up costs? much appreciated for all the help (which I appreciate I am getting for free at the moment!)

Nina1979 Premium
also, re time, I guess my view is that this isn't a hobby, it's a potential business and therefore you want to get a reasonable return within a realistic time period.Time is an opportunity cost because you have to weigh up spending that time on other things that could be of greater value. I can see there are lots of other factors, you have to be willing to work hard, learn, trial and error, invest etc, but if all of that is in play, I am guessing that if it wasn't realistic to see some actual financial returns within a couple of years despite every best intention, sacrifice, cost and the effort then you have to weigh that up. I am new to this so just trying to do as much research as I can before deciding to invest the time and money. I work full time in a decent job, my goal is to improve my time freedom in the long term and this seems like an option but only if it really truly is a realistic earner. The great thing about building up affiliate marketing I think, is that it's something I can do whilst continuing with my current career/job. If I could replace my current salary with online business within 5 years I would be really happy!!!

Hi Jhane,

It's fine to choose more than one niche. But you will only want to work on one at a time. The reason is that we often get too scattered and can't find the time to get anything done.

Keep all your niches in a file somewhere so you can come back later.

Which niche should you use?

You will learn how to research here so the best niche is going to be the one where you can create the most content. It will also be the one where you can rank your content the easiest. And the last thing is it's good if there are a lot of products that could be sold around that niche.

I suggest you take your time go through the training and then research each of your passionate niches and choose the one that will fill those points to work on first.

Although I prefer to work from home to be with my children, I still love my previous career. I worked as a Medical Assistant for 6 years and miss my patients. My question is, how in the world could I use this as my niche? I worked primarily as clinical back office (all the dirty work, less paperwork) and I also worked in the lab as a phlebotomist but also handled different types of specimens. Using this may also help me get over missing actually working in the field. Any suggestions/advise are greatly appreciated!

You don't necessarily have to use your "past job" as your niche. Your niche can be absolutely anything you want, any interest, something that you want to learn, something that you have lots of experience in...it is up to you.

Let me first say that Kyle did all of us overly enthusiastic people a HUGE service when he mentioned that your first niche doesn’t have to be your last! I have wanted to start an online business for a long time, and I always get caught up in the “passions” department because I have so many things that I enjoy doing/am passionate about, and as a former educator/coach, I love to share my discoveries and help others. I’ve always ended up getting overwhelmed by the sheer volume of ideas. The fact that I can dive in with one idea now, and move into other ideas later was totally liberating! So thank you!

Now for some support and advice: I was a nationally ranked gymnast as a teen and coached for several years—I’m thinking one thing a lot of people probably google search that I know a lot about is gymnastics, training products, drills and exercises, etc. Is that still too broad of an idea? Or would that give me a good amount to generate content around? I’m thinking reviewing equipment, leotards/warm ups, helping parents help their kids at home.

I also parent with my husband in a natural and screen free home. I would love to talk about that and recommend products for other parents interested in moving in that direction.

Any opinions on where to start? Thoughts? Comments? Critiques? I wrote a list of ideas, so I could share that too. Thanks in advance!

Hi Annie,

You have some great passions and you should start with that, yes. You have so many ideas in your head right now but you only need one site to make a full time income.

I think it's best to do the gymnast niche and focus on that one because of you depth of knowledge and personal experience, you could bring a lot to your website and help a lot of people.

Do not mix your ideas all on one website, do not start several or even two websites at once.

One website is a lot of work already, it's best you learn it all first and go through one site, then build another one once that one starts making money.

In this business, it's easy to jump from one idea to another, but when you do that, you won't have any business because nothing is being built to its fullest potential when you do that and your work is spread thin to all different things.

I want to point this out right away since you seem to be one with too many ideas and that could be a trap to fall in.

Gymnast for kids and how to help parents with this topic - perfect niche.

Natural, screen free home parenting is really another niche but it's okay to add some of these things to your gymnast site since you're helping parents with their kids, but this cannot dominate your gymnast site.

Hope all this makes sense. :)

Just cause I'm new and hardly have a clue, though I'm getting there, I thought I ought to follow the lead of the guy who got me turned on to WA. His WA profile talks a little bit about his interests, which got my attention.
When I did mine, I broke it down between what I'm passionate about and what I'm moderately excited about--what actually gets me emotional v. what I like to do or like talking about. During that process, I was wondering if that exercise would be helpful in identifying potential niches.
Lo and behold, the answer was Yes. So I highly recommend to those considering their first niche, to first taking ten minutes to answer the interest questions that I had, when expanding my profile.
The interested reader may be wondering what might be my first niche project. I'm cheating; the answer is none-of-the-above. That's only because, the more lessons I go through, the more I want to get really good at this, and Vegas 2019 seems like the best combination of digging deeper and self-reward. So I think my #1 niche will be down the WA way. (I think I'm turning into a WA afficionado!)
Another great video. Thanks!

I like your insights Kevin.
I believe people are rushing to get their niche without much further consideration.
And some of them wanted to revert when they are already half way building the site which if they do, is a waste of time and resources. I believe choosing a niche is one of the essential part of building an online business, one needs to ponder and make thorough research before they decide their direction.

Thanks for sharing your insights.

Kids toy reviews blog/video/comparisons - is this a saturated niche? every parent I talk to at school is already looking for Christmas gift ideas for their kids and panicking about not being able to think of anything! Another few questions if that's ok. If I was to choose a niche purely based on passion, one of my biggest passions, and the thing I get the most response from within my personal social media network, is global travel/holidays as a single mum with my 6 year old son. The two of us go on holidays abroad 5- times a year all over the world, plus weekends away at least once a month. Content creation isn't a problem (photos, videos, blog/text/reviews etc - and I have lots of advice I can give) but what type of product/service could I affiliate with to promote???

We also do a lot of mum/son fitness activity, again which could lend itself to fun content, but what sort of product/service could I promote around that?

Another one is just generally managing life as completely single, full time working mum, I myself am constantly googling different advice around that - (childcare challenges, time management, work life balance, money management, making time for yourself etc etc) but monetising it by affiliate marketing - not sure how??

Or am I better off just thinking of a very specific product that's not related to any of the above??

I am bearing in mind the 'start small and keep it simple' approach.

thanks all xx

If you are not a qualified expert in a particular area, but you just have a passion for something and some experience and you are good and pulling content together, is that still ok? How do people trust your opinion/advice if they don't know you and whether you really are knowledgeable about something? How do you make sure you don't get into some sort of law suit for mis-selling? e.g. I could write about a beauty product that I like and works for me, but has a negative affect on someone else. Are there legal aspects that we need to understand before we get started?
Reply
Robert-A Premium
Thats where research comes in.
You should research every product you want to promote.
There is also the fact that when you affiliate yourself with a company or individual then its there responsibility not to give the wrong information.
You on the other hand are taking them at their word and more or less repeating what they have said so the onus is on them to get it right and not you.
However if you are uncomfortable promoting a product then you don't.
Its as simple as that and there are countless products to promote so you should in theory never get yourself into any legal issues.
I'm off out now so maybe catch you later.

Hi, I have a few of questions as a newbie

1) is it better to have a lifestyle niche where you promote a set of products around that lifestyle e.g. women's fitness fashion and promote a range of different brands (and therefore may need to join a number of different affiliation programmes), or is it better to focus on a particular product/brand and focus on that e.g. Nike (and therefore only need to join one affiliate programme)???

2) if a customer comes to your site, clicks through a product link, say to amazon, but decides not to buy that product straight away and goes back later to amazon to buy the product direct or shops around different sites, do you lose that sale? if so how do you encourage people to buy in the moment rather than go away to other sites/price comparisons and then buy the product independently??

3) Do you get better results by being the 'face' of your niche, or can you be just as successful being an anonymous person behind a branded blog/site?

Any help is appreciated, thanks :)

It's up to what niche you would like, having said that, go with what you are passionate about! Moreover, it's also about turn over, so remember if you choose something of little value, then the return might be less.

In addition, if the person clicks on your site, hit the icon (Amazon etc) and they go there and decide not to buy, don't worry as there are cookies attached so you will still get the sale.

Keep things personal as people like to know who they are dealing with, plus you are beautiful, so a great advantage there lol x

Please reach out if there is anything else that you need to know.

I'm thinking that right now you are lacking direction - what to do right now and what way you should go.
Personally you should go with what you have experience and knowledge off and as you seem to have quite a lot of each in different areas this should not be a problem.
BUT
You have to single out one particular thing and concentrate on that 100%.
You should be dedicated and focused on that one thing to the exclusion of all else.
You have mentioned quite a few areas where you have the experience and knowledge so pick one out and do not deviate from it.
I believe you will find this is by far the best course of action to get a website up and running and making you money.

You get stuck on anything, you get in touch and I will be more than happy to point you in the right direction.
Have an awesome Monday.

Hey Kyle, it's me again..

This is the first time I'm coming forward for your opinion..I just want to clarify with you since I am new in this field like everybody else.. I just want to set my goals straight as this is THE MOST IMPORTANT (and CRUCIAL) subject in affiliate marketing I believe..

In the video, you did mentioned that I have to be choosing a niche that I am PASSIONATE about, something that I will be ENJOYED building the business within (minute 13:53 in the video..)

Okay now for the record, my PASSION is GUITAR.. And let's say I know everything (A-Z) about it.. Fair enough, I already have a PASSION there as I ENJOYING it so much!

BUT!

The real reason that I am MORE PASSIONATE about, the ACTUAL reason that I am HERE in WA today is to MAKE REALLY GOOD MONEY and have a SHOT to CHANGE MY LIFE (once and for all)..

I want to take that SHOT and to ACHIEVE IT for whatever it takes because people like you and other SUPER-AFFILIATES proved to all of us here that it is something POSSIBLE to achieve in your life!

My thinking is WHAT IF, I could do a proper market research that I believe could turn a hefty-profit from a product niche that is NOT even my PASSION (GUITAR), together with all the strategies and ideas for the whole business concept that I believe COULD work (with all the related articles from accredited source/report for site content etc)..

OR

Should you advice me to stick with my Guitar for a niche? (even though there are like thousands of guitar sites competing all over the net - that I myself go and buy stuff from)?

What do you (or any EXPERIENCE person in the community) have to say about which path for me to choose?

It's just something that I want to set my thinking straight up from the beginning to minimize or even avoiding making a wrong decision (especially in the beginning of my journey..).

I hope you are getting what I am trying to tell you from the beginner point of view here..

(Let me give you a hint of MY ULTIMATE PASSION --- Is to play GUITAR ALL DAY LONG without thinking of the MONEY because the MONEY is coming to me while I'm playing my GUITAR..)

PS - Anyone feel free to give your thoughts which one do you choose..

Cheers!

Hi Nazry
Im just a little ahead of you on the training. And went through the same thought pattern as you. There is tons of stuff out there on my niche - why would anyone want to read about it by visiting my site when there are proven and true sites already out there.

But because Guitar playing is your passion - it is the reason you know there are tons of niches out there the same. My niche is Homemade crafts - crochet, quilting etc.. What Im trying to say is dont be put off - through your training you find out how to search for keywords in Jaxxy that will help you build your Guitar playing niche using the words that are not as competitive and yet still has results.

Also, if this is your first web site - Its so much easier if you have the content in your head already because you are passionate about it. Then once you have this one up and running and feel confident you know what you are doing..... then find a niche that will make you more money and build a website on that. Here at WA you can have 50 web sites as a premium member.

Thats 50 niches that could be making you money.

Hi Paula,

Great thought and well explained.

I guess not only two of us are having the same thought pattern regarding these matter initially. Sometimes we just want to be 'unique' in our niche so maybe we decided to put ourselves against all those well-established sites around and try to look for something new.

The thing is with guitar playing it's like every single corner of the niche has been covered on the internet (trust me I have spent my time even before I joined WA as I'd made my research and googling around regarding affiliate marketing and niche for guitar playing-it's way too many).

But, maybe there are some small details about guitar playing niche that is not widely addressed on the internet that I had over-looked, who knows. Whatever it is I have to find it like it or not because it's my passion since I was a young boy.

Well, thanks for your thought Paula. Really appreciate that you spare your time to drop me a reply.

Wish you all the best with your future business & enjoy your weekend!

Perhaps think it from a different angle.... Busking with a guitar.... Review different guitar types..... The difference between and electric guitar, a guitar and a ukelele

I dont know... Ive never played a guitar but I love the sound of it.

Hi Nazry- Welcome to WA and as a singer and guitar player I can really relate to you being passionate about guitar
This is a great 1st niche, however, I want to ask you this. Do you prefer electric or acoustic guitars?
The reason I ask this is that just having guitars as your niche is quite broad and if you prefer either electric or acoustic then choose your favourite as then you will write from your heart and engage your visitors/readers with the passion you write with.
If you need more help just ask as we are here for you

Of course, and that is what creating an online business will allow you to do. The make money part should not be the only focus, because you will lose sight of what you are doing. Helping people. If
you can help people within any niche, you build trust, and once you have trust with an audience and are establishing yourself as a brand/authority, the sky is truly the limit.

I would recommend that you narrow it down a bit, what aspect of "guitar" do you want to help people out with? There are many types of guitar, types of music you can play with a guitar and aspects of this niche that you can help folks out with.

I pretty sure I want my niche to be pocket pet care; like ferrets, rats, mice, sugar gliders, bunnies, ect. Maybe talk about proper enclosures and cages, bedding, toys, and other accessories for each pet. Also as someone who's been rescuing small animals I've noticed most people don't know how to find or make proper food for their pocket pets, like with my rats I like to make my own mix and supplement it with lab blocks and fresh fruits and veggies. I'm just not sure if I should just specialize in one type of animal or just stick with the broader term or pocket pet.
Reply
Kyle Premium
These are all niches in themselves. Pet Ferrets is a huge niche alone and if you wanted to head in that direction, you could. But if you wanted to brand yourself as "pocket pet care" and diversify as you build your website and help people with different animals, that would work too.

I am very passionate about raising chickens as pets. It is great for young and older. I have raised several of my own. Some from incubators and some I have purchased live. There are different areas to find my niche, like incubators, coops, heat lamps, bedding material and on and on. I also take mine when I travel, so there are things you need for that. I just can't seem to pick just one item. I found Kyle's video really helpful for that. So, I guess I need to do some research. I wanted to get some feedback. Please help me with this one.

I think raising chickens as pets is an awesome niche, especially in today's society that is so busy and people forget that the sound of a chicken doing her chicken song as she lays an egg is so therapeutic for the soul. As you build your blog you can add in the various aspects.. Perhaps start with the basics...... housing, feeding, chicken health etc on each post with links. Then add in the travelling with chickens etc as you build your site. Just make a start and continue on the journey.

Welcome to WA

Sounds like a great niche.
I was looking at a different angel though. How about raising chicken for commercial/business?
Rearing chicken for own consumption or for sale. Of course your site would deal with the tips how to accomplish that, what appliances needed, where to get those supplies and so on.

Just a thought. :)

Thank you, Joe. Problem with that angle is that I could never eat my own chickens or raise them for commercial use. I love my pet chicken, like I love my dog. I think the supplies for raising a chicken would be necessar, though. I appreciate the feedback.

So I am thinking the reason I want to stay home and do this business, besides supporting myself, is my dog. I think my niche is going to be pets but maybe more fashion or traveling with pets? I am not sure how to narrow it down because there are a lot of dog things out there.

Something to do with dogs would probably be a good niche, because, as you say, there are a lot of dog things out there. Decide which topic you could write about the most, because you will have to write lots of posts about the topic. You might list ideas for each niche, and see which one seems to give you more to say. Good luck!

I see you don’t have your site up yet but once you get into some of the Affilate programs there are great products to sell in the health industry. Dieting areas. If you want send me your email and I can send you some of the products, books, recipes, etc that may help. You will need to get your website up before you can sign up with an affiliate program. Hi im thinking of a niche which is my passion - crafty stuff. So I could focus on crotchet/knitting, sewing etc. I also want to be able to sell my own handmade products on my website. I read somewhere that having too many affiliates can destroy your website in that it can
a) drop rankings with google if you dont have enough content on you web site and too many affiliates and
b) drag people away from your site - where you were hoping to sell your own product.
Ie my product is handmade bags. If I was to attach an affiliate to my website - say bag hardware. Ive lost my customer..... what are your thoughts or am I reading too much into this niche idea

Then I started thinking.... of offering other people the opportunity to advertise their handmade product on my web site and not focus on my own sales of handmade products as they take sooooo long to make and I could be better off working on my web site than making a bag?

Hi, I’m still deciding if this is for me or not. It’s all new so this may seem a stupid question and may by answered further down the training, so, I’m in Australia, do I have to choose Australian companies to affiliate with? How does the payment part of it it work if you are not from the same country. All of this is US based?..
Reply
RobertDoyle Premium
I was always told the only stupid question is the one you don't ask. It is actually a very good one. I believe funds are directly deposited into your bank account, or a check can be sent. It will all work out for you if you are Australian. The company base, I believe, is Canadian and U.S.people such as myself have no problems. Currency can be converted. The only problem I foresee is people in certain countries that cannot participate in WA due to so much fraud from that particular country, but your country certainly is not on the banned list. You may also want to ask others that know so much more than I do about this topic.

There are 1000s of companies out there with whom to affiliate. There is not a one-size-fits-all answer for who allows affiliates from Australia and who doesn't, but most of the major players are global in nature. You are not limited to Australian companies.

I am into a range of 'natural health products' - specifically the need for us to consume a minimum of 60 'natural' minerals per day to enable our immune system to fulfill it's function of protecting us from a whole range of ailments and illnesses - 'natural' minerals which we no longer get from the food we eat on a daily basis.
This will be my priority 'niche' but of course their are a number of related issues attached to this topic too - like 'natural' vitamins (over the counter stuff being 80% metallic minerals which are of no value to the body at all) - also 'weight loss' etc.,
Just one example - I 'was' a diabetic before I got involved in this market 4/5 years ago !!

My problem is that it is a huge subject - I think perhaps I should concentrate on just 1 aspect of it at the outset like the natural minerals - what do you suggest?

I do have my own website currently but don't think I can put a link to it here which would help highlight my dilemma - or could I add a link somewhere so that someone could offer some specific advice?

Hi Ron,

I think that if you would hone in on just the mineral aspect of preventive health guideline, your niche to begin with that would do great. As the site mature into one to two years of age slowly start adding the other products within your line of products.

By going this route it does not limit your product reviews to just the mineral based products, but you could use that leverage of the mineral knowledge to attract an audience, and then to lead to the other products within the product line.

Hope this helps,

Calvin

I am looking for some feedback. I have 2 ideas for a niche.
The one that interests me the most is writing a weekly article (Just a couple of paragraphs long) reflecting a conversation with a women (Any woman) about an amusing story or event. This article will be written from a man's point of view. Last part of the article will lead into a discussion about a recently purchased product & give it a review. Each week will represent a new product. sThis would mean a new niche every week!
The second idea would be for HVAC product reviews. Of course I could get very specific when needed.

3) Classic Movies Reviews

Choose one that really you are most passionate about. The others will have to wait.
If you dig deeper, as an affiliate marketer you need to do some research on the niche you are going to head on. Some questions you need to answer like...
- are they people looking for information related to the niche.
- are there enough related topic that you can write content for the site
- can expand this niche in future. (what is the perspective of the niche in say 5-10 years).

You would want to narrow either of those ideas down slightly. What aspect of health products,
what aspect of cars? Those are both really broad.

When deciding on a niche and trying to narrow down to a more specific niche, I recommend you ask yourself the following question:

Hi Yanick - when you say your niche is car - could you expand a little on this - as this could cover anything from detailing through to accessories. any one of these could be niches within themselves.
you say it may not be the most lucrative - how do you know - is it something you would buy and is it down to the affiliate program you looked at? but then if you know it - use this as a atarter site to help you write content and learn the business model - make all the newbie mistakes and then go for your second site as your main one.
but the car industry is a huge luctative niche.

Okay I'm stuck again..... Will I ever get my information out there? I have spent over 20 years putting together information for people to use in order to start making money today. What I'm wanting to do is only share information that I've personally tested and knows that it works. So many other sites are just like a copy and paste project. I mean it's almost to the point that all of them are the same. So with that being said, I am a little bit worried. I guess my question is in this day and time, can one still thrive in this type of site?
please help me!

Yes, you definitely can. You cannot "sell" anything to members here, but you can certainly share information and add training here through time if you like. Also, we are going to show you how to create and sustain a full time income online in any niche, so perhaps you want to head in Affiliate Bootcamp direction if you want to head in the make money space (as it sounds like you have lots of value to offer).

I don't know much about guitars but I think there are a bunch of styles and anufacturers. There is probably a lot to talk about in their history, who had what guitar, what guitars are made of, how firsti evolved.
These are just quick thinking topics and for someone who knows about them I don't think you'll have any problem.

You don't have to be an expert at a niche, to choose that niche. Your expertise will be developed and established over time and as you immerse yourself within that niche.

If you are passionate or interested in guitars, you could definitely create a business online around helping people within this given niche.

I really enjoyed this video. It helped me to breakdown the notion of "niches", and it doesn't need to be overanalysed. The key is finding something you love and enjoy learning about. If you choose any old niche, you may not make money as you will be less liable to spend time building your websites and catering to your audiences interests. Thank you, I look forward to lesson 3!

Yeah, lots of people spend too much time and quite honestly overthink what there niche is going to be. Your first niche doesn't need to be your last (and probably won't be) and there is no such thing as a perfect niche, you make your niche perfect for you!

I enjoyed the video on "It Start With a Niche" and I understand how to proceed . My interest at the moment is in Christianity, and I know Christianity is a broad subject. I have narrow it down to the bible, prayer, church products and certain discussion for the newly Christian.

I also thought about Herbs in which I know nothing about but are very interesting in learning about how herbs are healthy for our body.

The video was very helpful and should get me going in the right direction. I am quite sure Amazon.com, Answers.com, Google.com, and Magazines.com will be a great help to me along with the WA community.

#Question: I am passionate about talking about Christianity... A lot of what I like to do is answer questions that a huge amount of people are confused on. Can i make my niche this topic, I'm assuming i would find mostly books and such to sell in the blog posts, but is that effective? Or should It be more specific type of site, where I just sell specific catagory of chirstian products? I would LOVE to write everyday about TRUTHS in the bible, and earn from it.

there is an app out there people subscribe to and get bible readings daily or at the press of a button, hugely popular - so yes you can make a niche out of christianity.
there are a number of members who have started sites on religion, so it might be worth digging around a bit to see who is on here and see what they are upto.

I think you could have an answer site for questions on the Bible and Christianity. The only difficulty I see with it is that the Bible is so diverse and interpretations are so wide you may need to narrow it even to Old Testament or New Testament or a certain theme of the Bible. We need more of these type of sites that give honest answers to what ails the nations. I would think you could also market Christian retreats or other related things.

Best wishes,
Karin :)

Hmmm...this is a tough one. My lifelong favourite passion is music, and especially classic rock albums by bands like the Beatles, the Stones, the Who, Pink Floyd and many, many others. I did think about that, but it seems very broad, and I may have a bit of trouble narrowing it down to one particular niche (genre).

Then I thought about my current obsession with fitness (even though I am not really all that fit!) and thought about the various products that I use, especially pedometers. I do want to promote fitness, and I do love my Fitbit - maybe there's an idea in that?

if this is something you can write freely and easily about then pick this.
go through the training and put off the purchase of a domain until yuo are ready and have moved your niche to an area you really are passionate about and understand what your audience wants.
learn the business model and if needed start another site with another niche - then buy your domain.

It is recommended to choose one specific niche to start with. The idea to connect the tripadvisor (I believe you are an affiliate) sounds great if you are into a niche related to travelling e.g. tips for travelers.
The point I want to make here is choose only one niche as you starting out. It let you more focus and it's easier to get ranked if the theme topic is more specific compared to something which is mixed niches.

My opinion.

I have selected my niche based on this video but it is not in the baby niche. Amazon is one of the better choices as far as affiliate marketing goes. Amazon is one of many affiliate programs you can leverage in the baby niche, but I would recommend that you narrow down to a particular aspect in the baby niche. There are many directions that you can head in that category.

Natural parenting sounds like a great niche. Since it is so broad however, you might want to begin with infants. You will probably be creating so much content on breastfeeding, organic/ cloth diapers, etc., not to mention if you decide to deal with the topics of pregnancy and natural birth. (Any of those could actually be a niche in itself). You can always add older ages later.

A little confused. So if I find a product that I want to promote that I find in a affiliate partner, In order to get ranked and be found in google I have to write a entire blog dealing with that one product? What if the product was custom golf tees, How do you write a entire blog on that? Any help with direction will be of great help!
Reply
TomiK Premium
I think it is supposed to be more of a specific category of product. So with custom golf tees (not a golfer here, so I'm going to assume you are talking about the things you stick in the ground and not shirts), you could do a few articles comparing manufactures of the tees, a few articles on why you need custom tees, what to look for in custom tees, how to know when you are ready to buy custom tees.

The other option would be to blog about custom golf supplies in general, like if there are custom golf clubs that you can get or if you need specific shoes for your foot-type. Again, I'm just making up things that I think golfers might like, but I'm hoping that makes a little more sense.
Reply
littlemama Premium
The lessons will show you how to write, what to write, and how to build content on your site. There are going to be many different ways you can talk about custom golf tees, and as you keep learning you'll understand the different angles you can go about talking about it.

Your "entire blog" is not going to be about custom golf tees (unless you want it to be) because that seems quite a narrow niche. You will maybe just write one or a few posts about this product, or you could write even more if you like promoting custom golf tees.

But your blog I'm assuming will be more about custom golf tees to include what clubs you'd like to use, what shoes, how-to guides, etc. There are many products you'll be able to promote on your Golf blog, not just one product.

Hope this helps,
Grace

I can not decide on a "Niche"? My target audience is ''ALL Filipinos'' or perhaps also any UK dwellers who want to discover ''Anything U want to know about The Philippines'', for the novice, from somebody English who understands the English people as a 'Race'?
There are perhaps a million things that I could select as a "niche" perhaps, but maybe the best way to find my target audience, is to create a website which targets "ALL FILIPINOS" or perhaps ANYONE INTERESTED IN THE PHILIPPINES AS A HOME"?
My own personal target will be to live in The Philippines, myself, & create a solar power generation plant for myself & my live-in partner?
Prhaps this is the way forward for me, personally, but I hesitate to focus my website on such a narrow "niche",when my target audience is so broad in aspect? I reiterate--My main aim is to get & keep busy, & also to help & improve the lives of many Filipinos, & if I am able o make a little money along the way, then so much better, because it will probably enable me to help more, as a result of having that money?? you could do an authority site on the phillipines - that's not out of the question.
you would need to split it down into sections and concentrate on each in turn until all information exhausted.
you could also have a my journey section - a public blog of your journey to get to the phillipines and how you achieved it - highs and lows - what was needed and once there what you achieved for yourself and the fillipinos.
looking on answerthepublic - with just phillipines as a keyword returned a few responses.

we all take in information at different rates, you just need a different approach.
once learnt it is very difficult to go back to when we didn't know the information, so i'm sorry for assuming.
think of your website as a book, having chapters.
so one chapter is all about your journey to get to the phillipines.
another chapter is all about how you can get to there, to experience the real culture of the islands.
another is about what sort of work is available.
these area at the top as your menu.
it is worth sticking with the training here and going back through where you feel weak on.
we all do it.
please don't stop asking questions, this is what the community is for.
but take it slowly and write down what you want to do - break this down itno smaller steps until you get to the point you can do them.
small steps to start with and you will soon get the hang of it.

as long as you aren't expecting results next week you are ok- maybe the week after - lol
so take your time and hopefully the community will help you get there.

I am at the, "Finding a Niche" stage in the training and am now stuck. I want to help people that are stuck mentally (spiritually) who think they have no control over their lives. I want to help them realize they do have control, by how they choose to respond to their circumstances with emphasis on building a spiritual foundation in all things. I believe finding a balance in faith, family, fitness, fun, and finances is imperative to obtain a life of time and financial freedom. I intend to do that with sharing my life as I move through balancing all these aspects.

So what niche do I actually have here? LOL, I am so stuck and it is the one thing halting my progress forward. Well, that and creating an actual website name.

Big picture: once I get through the OEC training and have a website in the above niche, I would like to complete the Affiliate Bootcamp training and create a WA Promo website to help people looking to build a website and/or make money from it, but aren't sure how. I intend to do this by sharing how I created the niche site through WA's training program.

Also, as I move through WA's training program with success, I will plan to be transparent in sharing the experience through blogs on my initial niche website. Making everything go around, full circle.

I am a complete beginner in all aspects of starting a business online, so I really value and appreciate any input you all provide.

It's completely natural, especially for all of us who jump in as beginners, to maybe feel like we're gonna do something wrong or think that we don't know how to take the next step. But you have absolutely identified your niche, and it sounds like you'll be able to create all kinds of content on how to cope with the infinite stresses that are out there that people get lost in.

I'd imagine that within your content you'd also be able to connect your audience to helpful books, videos, ways to relieve stress, along with things to help them meditate, etc. and that process will go hand in hand with the affiliate marketing aspect of your business.

Don't stress. You're doing great.

Therein lies the problem, Katkat. My wheels are spinning right now, and I am so indecisive. To answer your question, I don't intend to practice as a spiritual business coach and don't have any training certifications to do so. I have been brainstorming a lot the last few days and keep coming back to the same questions, "Bootcamp or Niche?"

Initially, I was thinking, "I don't want to just have a site about making money online. And don't wish to start there." I had asked if there was a way to actually make money doing both promo and niche. Ericcantu mentioned how some start a niche site, once that is up and going well, they go through Bootcamp, start a WA promo site and share how they got started with WA, the training, etc. The WA promo site is geared toward an audience of people wanting to start a website but isn't sure how. I thought this was genius! So, that was what I was thinking of doing.

Now, I am totally unsure all over again. After much debate, I came to the conclusion, essentially I want to help people learn how to make money online, how to become financially free. I would like to share my personal experience with it because that is just who I am. But I am yet to become financially free, lol. So, now I am thinking I should continue the Bootcamp training, create a WA promo site, begin making money, and then create another site (lifestyle niche) that shares my experience. Naturally, in sharing my experience the spiritual aspect, and pretty much everything I mentioned above, will go hand in hand.

I guess my hesitation with whether I should move forward with OEC vs. Bootcamp, is if I choose Bootcamp, what the heck will my WA promo site be about? I am just starting and have very little experience with WA. Maybe that is the type of question Bootcamp is designed to answer. LOL

So, is it?

Sorry if that is too much. I did mention my wheels are spinning, right?

Where a lot of people overthink things is this idea that they have to be an expert to recommend something. If someone recommends a camera to you, do you ask them how long they've been a professional photographer? Of course not, right? You take their recommendation when you realize what they're looking for and what you're looking for are similar.

This is the same for both choosing a niche around your passion or choosing the preset niche in the Affiliate Bootcamp.

If what you want is to help people like you looking for this kind of training, then jump into the Affiliate Bootcamp. You're not going to be talking about how much money you've made because that's not what they're interested in. Every single lesson is one that you can leverage into a post for those looking for that exact training, and Kyle covers this.

If what you want to go into is helping people take an introspective looking into their own spirituality, go with the OEC. You'll be able to recommend things that have helped you in the exact same way. You don't need credentials for recommending what has helped you, just like you don't need to be an OBGYN to recommend baby clothes or a licensed personal trainer to recommend a good upper body workout :)

And also remember that it's not like there's 30 different training camps here at WA. There's 2 :) Just jump into one and move forward and at any point you can just jump over to the other if you like. The key is learning each step of the way. You don't have to build this perfect thing. It's all about learning.

Thank you, Eric! This is exactly why I am glad I have you as a mentor. Overthinking was exactly what I was doing. Every point you made above hits home on so many levels. I did finally, decide to move forward the Affiliate Bootcamp and see where that leads.

I am very glad I am part of this community!

I'm thinking about pet care. More specifically senior pet care, helping your pets live longer healthier lives, healthy pet products.. Do i need to break this down more or do you even think this is a good direction as I know there are so many of these types of sites out there allready
Thanks for any feedback, michele

I think “helping your pets live longer healthier lives” is a good direction.
You might want to start with a specific health concern & product and can
always add to it later.

Dear Kyle,I am having great dificulty deciding if I need to create a "Niche" as such? My idea about the aim of my website,is to help Filipinos know more about the UK, & everything about it? Where it comes from as a country, & why it has become such a powerful political community & country, although it is but one small island & the Philippines consists of 7,107?? My hope & intention is to live there soon, &whilst; I am very interested in solar power & everything connected with it, because my first aim & intention when I live there will be to set up solar power generation for myself & livein parner?
I know & understand that this will be expensive initially, but I also realise that this will make an enormous cost saving on my overall living expenses, which are fixed, because my only income will be my OAP from the UK government. If Iam able to promote & sell workable & cost effective solar installation for any &/all Filipinos, then that will of course, improve living & working standards fo all Filipinos. most or many Filipinos are very poor, & many have no electric of any description--I can do little for them, but if I can create a system that is reasonably priced, with connections to equipment & & knowledge, then it is very possible that I can create a workable employment situation for many more? B the way, I know personally from family & friends that all Filipinos have a great love & affection fo English chocolate products, & many other items available in England. So, I am wondering if contained within this message, you can find one or two items that could be consdered as "niches" within my very broad aims of my website?? Hoping this is worthy of an answer & not too wide an aspect for an intended website?? LOL

Sounds like a good niche for you would be "chocolates from england".

from that elect eclectic bunch, I would certainly choose solar power.especially if you are considering manufacturing your own units when you get to the Philippines

I am having a hard time with mine. My favorite things are camping and anything iPhone related. Is camping gear too broad of a topic? Am I looking for something as simple as tents? Or 5th wheels, or RV's, or sleeping bags? Or can it be a couple of those in one? For example, with tents you need sleeping bags and lanterns. How broad can a niche be, or does it have to be super narrow? And what is more lucrative, do you think? iPhones or camping? (Yes, I know, they are both super random when it comes down to it. LOL)
Reply
ericcantu Premium
I don't see anything wrong with having a website on sleeping bags and then building it out to offer related products like tents and lanterns. It's different if you have a niche like photography and then offer yoga pants. But with related niches, they go hand in hand.

So just because your website is titled, for example, "The Sleeping Bag Bonanza Website for all your Sleeping Bag and Bonanza Needs - 24/7 Bags for Sleeping Humans", that doesn't mean that you can also offer tents and lanterns and a host of other related things in your content as well. In fact, it would make total sense to offer those related items.

Kyle wrote a great blog you'll love on exactly this. Here it is: p.s. Please don't use "The Sleeping Bag Bonanza Website for all your Sleeping Bag and Bonanza Needs - 24/7 Bags for Sleeping Humans" as an actual title for your website. The world isn't ready for that yet, lol.

Great video! I realize I have been procrastinating... in fear of choosing the "wrong" niche... But I understand now that I just have to dive into it and get started and I might come up with others (better?) niches later on, or just add more niches with additional websites as I learn and grow in this. The startup for me will probably be within yoga. The intended audience would be "the average woman 40+" with themes on mindfulness, less stress, recommendations on good yoga programs, recommendations on yoga equipment etc. I have already found some affiliate programs within those areas. I appreciate all input, thanks in advance!

I did some checking on becoming an affiliate. What I got was a number of sites offering the same thing this training provides i.e shopify, click funnels, Shop a bot through amazon. What I am seeing is that there is a fee for each affiliate program or websites need to comply with a particular software configurration. Is this correct?
Reply
Triblu Premium
Hey Steve,

If you are being asked to pay a fee then that is not being an affiliate to a business.

If you want to find businesses offering affiliation all you need to do is Google search your niche.

Example:
Let's say your niche is dog treats... then all you would need to do is simply Google search "affiliate for dog treats" (without the quotation marks, of course) and you will see several businesses offered in the search results that offer you a means of signing up with them so that you would become an affiliate to their business.

Hope you find this helpful.

I'm sorta new to this whole thing, but just to throw one out there but how does AFC East Football Souvenirs sound for a niche, I mean i'm not quite sure if that is what someone would put for a niche, or if that would even count for as a niche. Any advice??

That would work. There are lots of items from sites like Fanatics.com or Etsy.com, as well as many other sites with products specifically for those teams. Expect competition on team names, though, so you'll probably need long-tail keywords. You can't just use Washington Redskins as a keyword - you'll need to go deeper/longer, like Washington Redskins license plate holder.

BoricuaAda Premium
You mean something like New England Patriot Decals?

People make all sorts of collectibles that you can buy on sites like Etsy. That is what I believe Jeannine was referring to. Here are all the Patriots items that you could promote on Etsy alone:

I hope this gives you some perspective here. ;)

So I really REALLY love synthesizers and I was wondering if items with $500.00 and above are to expensive to start out with for a niche? This is my favorite thing in the world but I was thinking that since the price is high would it be slower to get customers onto my site?
Reply
nathaniell Premium
There's no reason something would be "too expensive" for a niche. In fact, if you have expensive items to promote within your niche that's great, because you will make big commissions! I say go for it. Synthesizers sounds like a very cool niche to get into.

My two passions are my fur babies (Yorkie & Australian Shepherd) and my beautiful 6 week old grand daughter. I hope the monitor will be a good start. I have so much to learn with affiliate marketing.

Very good video Kyle! I've been stalled out on picking a niche for a long time, but I am finally starting to get more comfortable with the idea now. I have a degree in commercial art and have worked as a technical illustrator as well as an architectural illustrator. I've never done digital art but I am interested in learning how. I am also interested in alternative energy such as solar panel power systems and also hydrogen fuel conversion kits for automobiles. Also you mentioned that we could build a business as an affiliate of WA. How would that work?

Pick just one Dave! You could create a site promoting WA, for that you follow the Bootcamp training or one of the other subjects you mention by following the Online Entrepreneur Certification. Solar panel systems, hydrogen fuel conversions or digital art could all work as niches. You need to make a choice!

I am still not sure about my niche. It says in the training you should have a passion for your niche, and love what your doing, that way it does not seem like a job.I have a passion and love baseball and football. Also being a retired firefighter,I had a passion for firefighting, because it was helping people and also protecting them.I will decide soon,if I do not come up with one,I probably will choose affiliate marketing.

Hi Ulrika,

I agree, just take a pen and paper, because paper always works for me anyway, but write down as many names and ideas that come to you, Once you have a few names, you can look through them, perhaps with a friend to help eliminate those names that definitely do not work first, and then work through the others to see what you like.

Don't over think it.

I have narrowed down my first niche to a few but not sure which one to go with.
I have experiences in the fitness industry so I was thinking of home workout gear.
As well I'm an avid kayaker so was thinking kayakgear. My third is Camping accessories specifically for trailers.
Tough decision to go with but I think maybe health and fitness is pretty big right now. That might be the one.

Those are all great niches. While health and fitness is a good niche, it is also very broad. The more you can narrow it down, the better. The home workout gear sounds like a great niche idea. Did you have a specific one in mind that you want to start with?
Reply
mikejd Premium
Not a specific item. I was thinking any fitness equipment for working out. Items like mats, stretch bands foam rollers. Not cardio items such as treadmills.
Reply
FKelso Premium
Yes, Adreyna is right. You need to select a niche that is not too broad, but when you narrow it down, you will need to be able to write a lot of posts about that topic. Therefore, pick the one you know the most about. You might do some brainstorming and think of all the topics related to that niche that you can. Make a list of those ideas. You will have to write many posts on the subject, so if you have one in which you have a lot of experience and knowledge, that will be helpful.
Reply
adreyna Premium
Oh, I see - I'm sure that will work...sounds good!

If it was very narrowed down wouldn't it be difficult to continue to write posts. Like if I chose foam rollers. There's only so much you can say about them.

I'm not trying to find the perfect niche` because even if I found it, I've had no experience with most of 'em so I think I'll go with what I know. I'm referring to the things I've been through that most people haven't such as suffering in a car accident that was so bad, it caused my heart to stop 3 times during the flight to the emergency hospital called Shock Trauma Hospital in Baltimore, MD in 1994.

I've had to do without so many things because I don't have the physical ability to work at a regular job so I've really suffered on state-provided disability since 1994 and it's time for me to change my life. That's especially true now that I have a wonderful wife & we have a precious little girl who was born in late 2015 and that makes her 2 1/2 years old as I write this.

So therefore, the first niche` I'm going to start with will be "disabled affiliate marketer" and when that succeeds, I'll move into other niche`s like "disabled home owner", "disabled husband", "disabled father" and the list goes on.

What are your thoughts about what I just said...?
Reply
whitneyfoste Premium
Sounds like you'd reach a specific market. Lots of disabled people look to earn money online, myself included. Of course, my setbacks are mental so I look forward to earning a living on my own terms without having to answer to anyone. You could also try frugal living and parenting/family niches.

There is certainly a market for that niche. Because you understand the problems in that niche you are well suited and well placed to write about it. A lot of the people who do try to target niche is like that don't understand the problems on a first hand basis. I would suggest you start just there

I am so happy to learn that my concern with my niche being over-saturated was unnecessary. Remembering just how many potential customers are online today, as well as how numerous the growth of products and services is there waiting...my mind is at ease. And the icing on the cake is knowing we can have a great variety of niches over time. Great presentation!
Reply
Kyle Premium
Yeah, totally unnecessary.

Never worry about competition within the niche, any given niche is so vast that there is so much opportunity and so many keywords/audiences that are "untapped".

The only competition you should worry about is you and by being a member here and what you learn here at WA, you are going to have a competitive advantage over any of your competition.

When I enter a niche, competition does not even cross my mind because ANY niche can be highly lucrative and there is so much opportunity within any niche.

You will be just fine, don't worry about competition Tamara.

I have gone through many different things that I like to do and the one thing that seems to always be around wherever I go is music. I am thinking about building a website revolving around waterproof headsets. no one ever wants their speaker blaring super loud just to over power the sound of the shower and it is really hard to be at a public pool and enjoy your music without disturbing others as well its inconvenient to keep getting out and putting on your earbuds. I thought this would be a great idea and it revolves around a great passion of mine.

It depends how much work and effort you put into each site. Many WA members have several successful websites running but it takes time and hard work to maintain them. So to answer your question: You can get a good return on more than one site but you need to make this happen.

Thank you for broaching the subject of "Niches", what you have said has made it less scary but again I am still stumped. Can I do a Niche along the lines of Leather Boots & Gloves ?? Or since I have known its kind of hard to find leather accoutrements for larger people be it boots, gloves or stockings and garter belts or would that just be classified as Lingerie ??
The Snack helmets surprised me, I am an avid football watcher and it just never occurred to me to have Helmets that are for holding bowls of chips or candy, that was mind blowing. Not that I liked the Dallas Cowgirls helmet, didn't see any Redskins Helmets which was a shame.

Now I seem to be confused as to which of these should I choose as my organic niche.
