As you know, having an appealing meta description in SERPS is as important as having good content.
You only have a small space to stand out from your competitors, so it's important to be creative and detailed in order to have people to click on your link instead of another one, that might be ranked higher.
That small space you get in the SERPS is called a snippet.
A snippet is an extract of your content that is meant to shortly explain the details of what your visitors can expect to find when clicking through.
To stand out of the crowd you need a good meta description and a rich snippet like above, especially when you are not on top the page.
How well you describe the details of your post, page or product review in that small place that you get in the SERPS will make the difference between someone wanting to click through or click on the next best link.
As Jay pointed out in one of his webinars, the future in search ranking will be in using structured data markup, which is what this plugin does with the rich snippets.
Search engines love schematic markup because it makes their job much easier - it helps to interpret the type of information contained in the web content.
I don't know whether it has yet made Google's list of 200 or more
actual ranking factors, but it is common sense that using schematic markup in content can improve SEO and I agree that it could attract a higher click-thru rate.
Thanks for this valuable training. ~Jude
