Prerequisite:'

You own a domain name hosted anywhere.

Background:

When a surfer sees your advertisement they will hover the mouse pointer over the link you created. There are two ways that your link could appear in the surfers status bar at the bottom of the browser window.

1. http://website.com/many many many letters and numbers/hoplink.gotolink etc. etc. 2. http://yourwebsite.com/anynamehere

Look number 1 is not very attractive and could discourage some surfers from clicking. Look number 2 is attractive and could encourage more surfers to click.

A Simple Way To Accomplish Look Number 2:

Use a .htaccess file to Redirect links. All you need to do is type a redirect into your .htaccess file using the following format. redirect /anynamehere your complete affiliate URL goes here

What To Type In The .htaccess File:

redirect /anynamehere http://youraffiliateID.product.hop.clickbank.net

Save the .htaccess file and your done. You can add as many redirect lines as needed.

PS: FTP to your public_html directory. You will "Edit" or "Create" the .htaccess file. It is just a text file named .htaccess and it should be visible as the top most file. You may have to "Turn On" dot file visibility in your FTP client preferences. It does not matter what name you use in place of "anynamehere". What does matter is that your advertisement link is associated with that name like the following:

What To Type In The Advertisement:

Go To Product

Notice the association between the .htaccess file line and the advertisement code line. => /anynamehere

The .htaccess file is probably in the default folder (root) of your site. That could be something like:

/
/public_html
/www

The .htaccess file is hidden so you may have to manually GET it from your FTP client (FileZilla, CuteFTP, WS_FTP, etc.). I can't give you any specific info on that because there are too many possibilities.

Once you open that it's just like a text file. You can edit, save and upload it back to your server and test out your redirect. This is just the basics to get you started.

I agree with Mavis! Please someone spell out where I go to get a .htacess. I've learned more than I ever knew was possible for me already, but I still think of myself as the least technical person alive. Thank you so much for the help!
