Anchor Links.

One of my major bugbears has been finding an effective and easy way ( Read Process) to add internal links to a page. By that, I mean having a table of contents with each (H3) heading linked to the header of each paragraph.

I had tried a couple and the ones I tried had left out some steps which effectively made the links next to useless. Really just a couple of simple steps that someone might have thought "Oh, they will know that", but I didn't and it ruined my day and my blog.

So here we go. Today is about 25% longer than the one I did yesterday. So, 5 minutes instead of 3 minutes. So with no further ado, here we go.

Everything is covered in the video, but I will write it out again so you can have 2 ways to absorb the information.

Step 1. The first area where you will start your links is in your "table of Contents" You will add the link normally by using the little "chain link" feature. With this link, you will add the hash or pound button before the text. For example, #text.

Also when adding the text in the links, you do not have to write every word. My preference is to use only 1 word. Also, check that the "headlines" are in H3.

Next, you will be linking to the headline at the start of the paragraph. This time you do not need to add the hash or pound key. And remember, I said you don't have to use every word, just 1 is enough, as long as it is the same word as used before.

On the right-hand side, you add the final anchor link, again the same word or words, Under advanced. Remember you should be in the "block" section.

And from there all you have to do is check it and admire your handiwork.

P.S. After each stage, I always hit the "update" button.

P.S.S. I have checked this a few times on my gardening Website now and it works 100%. However, if for you there is a problem, please do not hesitate in getting back to me.

Yo Ho Ho and a bottle of Rum.

Anchor Links make me feel very 'piratey".

Thanks, Zoopie, I have used something similar to create footnote links in the past. I use WP Lucky for my table of contents. But this training is great on how to do it manually.

Hi Zoopie
Nice training, very clear...
Is there a reason that you don't use a Table Of Contents block for this?

Ah-ha... it's excellent for those situations where you want to link from somewhere other than a TOC to anywhere else...
Thank you
:-)
