The Right Way to Use Pinterest Hashtags

Just like other marketing tools, Pinterest hashtags also bring growth provided they are used correctly.

It is a new tool and most people are still finding it difficult to use them correctly. There are some things you have to stick to for you to use hashtags correctly.

Placing the Hashtag in the Right Place

Hashtags are meant to be used in the pin description, Pinterest only allows 500 characters. You are to input what the post is meant for, what it discusses, keywords, call to action, and hashtags.

I will advise you using hashtags at the end of the pin description. Using them at the beginning of the pin will make it look like spam and also makes it difficult for the reader to go through it.

Can Hashtags Be Attached to Comments?

Yes, you can use hashtags for Pinterest comments. The hashtag will also be clickable under the comment session.

Using new hashtags under old pins won’t make them rank higher in search results because the results are shown with respect to date.

Is it Okay to Add Hashtags to Old Pinterest Content?

Pinterest displays search results based on the date they were posted; adding hashtags to the old pin has little or no effect.

It might be effective if the pins with that hashtag are few. Instead of using hashtags in the old pin, it is better to just focus on creating new and effective pins with that same hashtag.

Using Hashtags in the Right Place

Using hashtags under profile name, bio, board names is not effective because they are not clickable there. It is better to focus on using them in pin descriptions where they are clickable.

How Many Hashtags?

Pinterest allows you to add 20 hashtags to your pin; use a few of the slots. Using many hashtags makes your pin look like spam. From my own experimentation, you can use about 2 to 5 hashtags, but you should also carry out your experimentation to see what works for you.

If you use a few hashtags, your post-exposure will be minimal; if you use too many, it will look like spam and people won’t bother to go through it.

Excellent Israel, I didn't know the max no of hashtags that is allowed, though I normally add 3-4 per Pin. Inserting a space to get a list of # is also new to me, so thanks heaps as I have learnt 2 new hacks thanks to you. Marisa
