It Is Possible

Although it may be a little different from operating systems I will explain how to take a screenshot with your computer and nothing else.

There are processes to take a screenshot for other devices such as Mac's, Android's, Chromebooks and so on. In fact the screenshot process even differs from keyboard to keyboard.

Here, to keep it simple and short, I will explain the process for a common keyboard and Windows PC.

The Process

  • Ensure you have your screen looking the way you want it when you capture it.
  • Locate the PRINT SCREEN button.
    • Not all keyboards have them but the ones that do are sometimes labeled PRT SC or PRT SCN and can be found in the upper right area of the keyboard.
  • You will notice that nothing happens, of nothing seems to happen.
    • Actually your computer snapped an image of your screen and is holding in in temporary memory on the clipboard.
  • Now Open Paint or a photo program of your choice, even MS Word will work.
  • Position your cursor where you wish to paste the screenshot.
  • Now Paste the image by using one of two methods as noted below.
    • Hold down you Control button (usually labeled ctrl) and press the letter v
    • Right mouse click and select Paste from the pop up box.

Below is another CC0 image I found that has a Print Screen key on it. See if you can find the key and comment your answer below. :-)

Now That You Know

How to take a screenshot with your computer let's take a look at some other screenshot capturing options. If you have any questions so far leave a comment below and I'll get back to you soon. :-)

I have used Snagit in the past and I love it. Haven't tried the others but I will.

I think you missed a great one that is shipped with Windows 10. It sits at the top of your screen and is always ready for use. It's called snip editor and works like a dream.

Thanks for a great post; so many different techniques to make screen shots. I've another you might like to try; it is free as well. It's called Jing? Have you heard of this one? I believe it's free; I've never paid for it anyway. So give it a try because it is fairly easy and I get great screen shots all the time when using it.
Thanks for taking so much time with this and sharing it with everyone.
