The Price of Education... My Situation!

Hey folks, Tom here again! You know, I just wanted to blog about something that is very important to me. That thing? Education!

I just received an e-mail from Kyle last night about "The Price You Pay For an UN-Education" After reading the e-mail, Kyle made some very valid points when it pertains to education.

What Kyle Had Stated

*For the price of an Internet Marketing degree, you could easily become a member of WA for 60 years

*Being a member of WA would be 1/100 of the cost of that of a financial institution

*At WA, you get live 24/7 support, classroom trainings, updated education, and help from (10,000s) of entrepreneurs in the field and successful people

*An education that you receive from a college or university may not even be useful a few years from now (I think he mentioned this in a different e-mail?)

My Current Situation

I'm here in the middle of nowhere here in Central PA. Most of the jobs around here are industrial, which really aren't a fit for me. Therefore, I have to commute 45 minutes either north or south to get to a big enough city to find work in an accounting or administrative field (I currently have an Associate's Degree and Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration). Even with the long commute times, a lot of these jobs don't want to pay me more than $12-$13/hr. On top of that, it seems like about any job I can get anymore is through a temp agency, where most of them really don't care about you and offer little to no benefits. In addition to that, more times than not, I get laid off every few months and then hope I can get accepted for unemployment.

After my parents passed away, I got stuck with a house that I didn't want and inherited a HUGE debt. I also have a sister who doesn't support any of my decisions, shows me absolutely ZERO respect, and complains that I don't help out enough.

In the last 2 years, I've also had a lot of medical issues. Because of that, I also have to pay on those because my insurance refused to stating that I wasn't an employee at the time. Even though I was hurt, I still didn't qualify for disability, which really made it tough during that time.

Well how could I pay to keep my insurance going when I had no money coming in from my employer? My retirement that I had put away is now gone because I had to take care of my father, pay my bills, and eat. I even sold things on ebay, did recycling, and took surveys online. I was (and still am) doing everything I can to the best of my ability just to make ends meet and survive.

If one thing positive came out of this, it is now that I am now about 35 lbs. lighter and am just about 100% healthy! :)

Why I am Still Considering an MBA

Well, last week, I got accepted to Southern New Hampshire University in their MBA program for Internet Marketing. Classes start in February; however, I have already applied for scholarships and financial aid.

The MAIN reason why I'm considering this is because of the lack of opportunities here, I want to move out of my "comfort zone", move on, and get a fresh start. I realize that the education that I would receive probably wouldn't be quite as good as here at WA; however, I still think I could get something out of the program.

Possible value of getting an MBA?

Well, I think it would get me a lot more connections, especially with prospective employers. Also, with an MBA, my resume would be taken A LOT more seriously. Because of that, I could command a MUCH higher price.

It would also open up many more employment opportunities for me, along with the possibility to move to New England, whether it would be Maine, Vermont, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Upstate NY... the possibilities could be endless! Also, these states would have a much higher per capita income than that of Pennsylvania for sure.

I also think moving to New England would help me get out of the poor environment that I am currently in, which in turn could quite possibly help me live the life I deserve :)

Working For Someone Else

I don't mind, as long as I enjoy what I'm doing and am treated like a human being. If I make enough money on my own to become financially secure (happy), then I'll quit and do what I want to do.

In closing, I want to apologize for blabbing; however, I just felt like I had to get this off my chest.

Here's to a very healthy and prosperous 2015 to you all!

Tommy :)
