Three Months...Almost

I'll make this fairly short.

I'm about a week short of being a member at WA for three months! I have what I think is a great website, even though it is FAR from complete. I've made some really good friends (I hope they think so, too!). I've learned way more than I thought I would in this amount of time. I've even hit page one of Google (with a keyword so specific that I know I'm the only one who will ever search for it). All great things, right?

I've also ranted about a number of things, which I won't repeat. Whew! I know everyone's glad to hear that! I'm extremely deliberate (slow) about posting anything. I'm also extremely selective in choosing subjects for my articles. For these reasons, my progress is slower that I'd like. And, although I understand that three months is a short time, it's difficult not to feel somewhat discouraged. I'm sure I'll get over it. Never give up, never give in!

So, how do I judge my progress for three months? Even if I'm a bit discouraged, I'm proud of myself for getting this far and sticking with it. I'm proud of the website that I've created. And I'm proud to know some really fine people that I didn't know before.

Success? I think so.

I think you are doing great, Tim!!! And here I was beating myself up for not being done in a month and a half!! As you said, "Never give up, never give in". That is going to be my mantra. Thanks for the encouragement. Have a great weekend!!
Wendy:)

You are doing well.

Thank you MisterWailor.

Success for sure, just hang in there and keep up the great work. I know what you mean about being selective about your articles, but that is what makes rich content...right! Thank you for sharing. :))

Thanks Kim!

It's easy to get frustrated and discouraged with so many others having success so soon, after being here for such a short period of time, but remember, most of them knew a bit more about computers than we (at least I) did before WA. It's tempting to rush through and catch up, but that's when mistakes happen. It's good to be slow and sure instead. You're right to be picky with your content. It's about you too. What works best for some niches might not work on others. I still like you, fellow slow-poke. >; )

Hi Terry. I always look forward to hearing from you. You seem always to make me smile! Thanks!

I hesitate to mention that I can't claim lack of computer knowledge as a reason for being slow. I was a network engineer for the last 13 years. I'm blaming my deliberate nature and the time it takes to do such in depth research. Yeah...that's the ticket!

Great words, Terry =] I'm a slow poke, too, and I'm happy to be in such fine company ;)

....

You should brag about him. I wish I'd gotten to know my dad better. I was only 7 when he died.

Ain't it the truth?! When I started, all this "Interweb" speak might as well have been Swahili. Couldn't understand half of the lessons. I've since picked up some of the meaning here and there by reading posts and comments etc. It gets easier,

I'm sad to hear that, but it's probably one of those lessons you learn early in life that helped shape the person you are today. I hope your memories of him are good ones. I was 18yrs. and tried to do things I knew he'd be proud of (didn't always succeed). But I got my sense of humor from him, so when I get sarcastic...well...

The few memories I do have are good ones, even though he was not a real healthy man. I pretty much worshiped the ground he walked on. I've been told all my life that I got his sense of humor. I hope it's true because I love to laugh!

In that case, I will try to elicit at least a few chuckles from you more often.

You absolutely should be proud, Tom, and even if you're feeling discouraged at the moment, remember that a blue feeling will pass just as surely as "the sun'll come up, tomorrow." Personally, I'm very impressed that you 'fessed up to the discouragement, because it gives folks like me an opportunity to type a few words of "Atta Boy!" to you and hopefully help make the discouragement disappear faster.

The immortal words of Victor Frankl remind us that "What is to give light must endure burning." Keep shining that light of yours, Tom; it's a welcome beacon to so many of us. Goodness always, Gg

Thank you Gwynn!

I feel your frustration... I'm just short of 3 months as a premium member too... I have been feeling overwhelmed & lost here lately... I've had to back off a few times just to figure out what my next step is, but I'm not giving up either... Hope things get better for both of us...
Windy

As long as there is no giving up, it has to get better!

The timescale is irrelevant, you're doing great Tom! As Carla says, we'll get there, maybe at different times but we'll get there. The trick is not giving up, as well you know!

Absolutely. Like I said in my post above " Never give up, never give in!"

Man, you are definitely not the only one doing any ranting around here! lol
It's hard learning new things (especially when we get older)! It can be frustrating too! I know you've seen some of my blogs going off!
It's okay to take your time with your posts. It means you really care about your website. You have a great site that you should be proud of!
If you're like me, I think of my main site as my baby lol. I care about it and want the best for it!
So, definitely you have succeeded! ;)

Yes Angela, we've talked about ranting before. Sometimes you just have to get stuff off your chest.

Thanks for your comments.

:) we sure do

Well done Tom. My site is a work in progress too so just take things at your own pace. :)

Thanks Kathy!

I'd call that success, Tom! I'm not exactly where I want to be either. I daresay a lot of us feel like that. But we're all going at our own pace and that's good. We may not get there at the same time, but we WILL get there!

I have to believe it's success, Carla. If I don't, I might give up, and I'm WAY too hardheaded and stubborn for that!
