Organ Donor?
This is an interesting topic I think? I just took my friends daughter for her Learners Permit and they asked her, a 15 year old, if she wanted to be an organ donor.
I really didn't know how to advise her.
What do you guys think?

I said yes, but they may not want mine by the time I die. If there's anything worth using when I'm gone then hopefully I can help someone.
I think a lot of people are confused here....becoming an organ donor simply means that when you die, doctors can use your organs to save people's lives. An estimated 21 people die per day waiting for an organ transplant, so I'd say it's a good cause which makes absolutely no difference to you (since you're dead anyway).
You can Google around for a lot more detailed information on the subject, but I see no reason not to be an organ donor.
Good explanation, Ian. It's not something you can use once yoy die, so why not allow someone else to live. To me, being a donor just makes sense
I think its a very personal choice for her to consider and possibly discuss with her family. My first question would be how are the organs to be used? for medical research or training or to potentially save another life?
Good question. They don't tell you. I am showing everyone's thoughts to my children, I have 3 young drivers, all considering this question.
The decision relies on the person to donate. If by all her soul loves to do it then nobody would be blamed.
I presume she and the family know the value of what she is going to do. A medical advise should be sought on what are the side effects if there are.
Thank You, this is for her drivers license, if anything happens to her, not while she is living. They just asked her if she wanted to be an organ donor and she didn't know...
Oh, I see. If she'll answer it "yes". Meaning when something happens to her when she is driving they can immediately take her kidney before she dies.
I think it's a terrific idea in principle. However, there is a "black market" on organs (it could be small, or large, not sure). I have it checked on my driver's license. They don't ask in your state?
Yes, they do. That is why it came up. They asked Jessie if she wanted to be an organ donor and she didn't know.
We are having a family discussion about it and I wondered what other people think?

I am signed up on my driver's license. I have a niece who donated a kidney to someone a few years ago. I'm very proud of her.
