Hello WA friends,

Can I share my own rules on Plagiarism? Thank you.

  1. Don't waste any energy worrying about Plagiarists
  2. All Plagiarists are Followers and not Leaders
  3. Plagiarists will eventually be caught and punished
  4. See Rule #1 (and repeat as many many times as necessary)

(feel free to plagiarize my rules, I have plenty more you have not seen yet.)

There is a discussion on plagiarism. If you have not seen it, here are the threads

Are we overreacting, yes, and here's why...

The human mind is constantly creating new ideas always refining and improving. When someone steals your idea, they only get the idea that is already out in the world to the public.

But the new revolutionary idea that's based on your original thinking (pedagogical thought), that is still evolving in your mind, or you are dreaming up, no one else has that. I just added #2 to my above rules, so all the plagiarists who claim to have written the previous rules are missing #2, because it's not their original idea. Get it.

Colton is more than capable of coming up with his own new ideas. Because the ideas are his, everyone will only be following the older versions. So the plagiarists are following Colton's old ideas. That's why there so many followers and so few leaders.

So unless someone works out how to grab the idea while it is still in our head, like the thought police in the 1984 movie, we should just get back to work. Distractions cost time and money. Maybe we should just copyright our minds.

So in closing...

Don't worry about plagiarism

See you @ the Top!

Michael: Good point. There are bigger things to worry about. In a way, isn't being copied the highest form of compliment? Regardless, we should not condone plagiarism. But as you said, there is no point in running after them! Best regards, Fred

Right! Google is pretty smart. Let's leave it to them and work on our writing.

P.S. I remember reading 1984 when I was young and it had quite an impact on me. Strange how society seems to heading in that direction more and more. Maybe we should all read it again.

Maybe, I have the John Hurt and Richard Burton movie version

See Kyle's comments as he captures the essence of my post.

I'm following you :)

I like it. Happy Birthday! I am following you too.

Very well said!
I'm getting back to work now ;)

Beautifully said and what a wonderful way of looking at it!

i agree with you at least as follows: worrying about what someone else may do will get you nowhere. Focus on success instead.

Hi Michael, you make an excellent point.

Now that I think about it more, there really isn't anything to worry about. Those of us that do the work are continuously adding new ideas to our old ones and changing things up on our sites. These copycats will be left in the dust...

Thanks for sharing and best wishes :) ~Sherry

100% agree. They don't even have a chance. They'll always be second-movers on your content. As for website structure - let them use it! It doesn't make your site any worse

Thank you, nice thoughts. You made the point.

Thanks Jovo (an original thinker)

The lazy copy. The lazy do not succeed. The lazy will not be rewarded by Google (dupe content doesn't rank and actually flags site in search engines)

I have never worried about people "copying", it is not only a form of validation of what you are doing is right.

They say, "plagiarism is the sincerest form of flattery.". I think there is a lot of truth to that.

Those that copy will always exist, focus on what you do and what you are building, focus on quality, and don't worry about what others are doing and you will be just fine.

Kyle, you just made my day, my birh-day.

See you @ the Top! and LV17

Awesome Michael, Happy Birthday!

When I was in college, that's all they talked about since I was going to an online university and we would have to write 15 and 20 page papers every month to prove we were digesting what we were being taught. Then the papers were submitted into a sort of lie detector to see where the writer had copied text from anything anywhere online. It was crazy. They spent so much time worrying about that, that the real creativity was lost. You are absolutely correct Michael. Worry about the bigger stuff. Don't sweat stuff like that.

RaeAnn, you get it. It's just a distraction and time waster. We can come up with new ideas that are better that previous by the time they steal our old stuff.

See you @ the Top!
