How important is writing to a successful affiliate marketer?
Writing is crucial to having a successful affiliate marketing business (whether you do it or pay others to do so.)
I worked in the newspaper business for many years and found that almost anyone could learn to write and write well if they had the desire. I still believe that to be true.
But just because a person can learn it, does not mean they will like it. Follow your passion and know yourself.
If you just don't like to write but have great ideas, partner with a writer who loves it. If you enjoy expressing yourself in writing but worry that you are too slow, just keep at it. The more you write, the more productive and effective you will become.

Actually, those who are well-educated and/or well-read can pick it up quickly -- especially if they have the desire. Writing courses could be helpful but they don't teach what I would call the 'informal conversational' style. In other words, write like you are speaking to a close friend.

It is still best to write yourself though, as in any business there are tasks that we just do not like to do.
But we have to get out of our comfort zones and force ourselves to do the less desired tasks,
This is what defines us, makes us better, stronger and more successful business people,
Imagine where we would be if we just did the things that we like and neglect the others?
