Internet Money Scams

I am too old and should be wise enough by my age to know better. Which I guess I am just so lonely that I keep falling for pretty faces and good stories. I have really messed up this time, which I usually know not to do what they ask, but this time I am out of mind on what I am going to do now. My bank account is - $2000.00 and I draw $790 a month, how was I so dumb? I am going to lose all my check for the next three months. I will lose my membership here at Wealthy Affiliate and my place to live, how was I so dumb?

This Is How A Scam Works.

First they send you a friend on FaceBook with a good-looking picture. Then they talk with you for months, then they come up with a reason that they don't have a bank account. They want to deposit a check in your bank account, of course the check is no good. It may take the bank days or a week to find that the check is fake or written on a closed account. So the money shows up in your account as a good check, then they want you to send part of the money back to them. Of course, they give you a little of the money for doing this for them. In a few days, your bank sends you a notice that your account is minus the money that you have sent them.

How Do You Send Them The Money?

That is according of how much money it is, small amounts an Amazon or iTunes. Big amounts the new way to send money is Walmart to Walmart. How they do this is you send them a picture of the receipt with authorization number and the amount. When you go to Walmart to send the money, you have to have a name of who you are sending the money to and their address, which the face you are sending the money for has given you the information of who is getting the money. This is how this scam works and if someone who you have just talk with ask you to do this don't you will be sorry that you did.

Why Did I Fall For This Scam?

Well my wife five years ago this month and I guess I am just lonely. They prey on people like me that have lost a loved one or are just only. They promise they are coming to be with you and take care of you, but you will never hear from them after you send the money out unless they think you real stupid, then they will want you to open another bank account at a new bank and promise that what they send you will make up for the last one. Please Don't Fall For this Scam!!!!!!

What To Do If You Get Scammed!

Go to your bank and tell them what has happened. Keep all the information that you have from however you sent the money. They have a fraud department in their company, you are still responsible for the money, but maybe they will get caught. If they get caught maybe they will have money with them when they do, but if you don't report the fraud you will not get anything back. Please Don't Fall For This Kind Of Scam!

There Are People Out There That All They Want Is Your Money.

They are to lazy to work, like you have all your life and they look for lonely older people. They will tell you anything and promise you the world. I don't know what is going to happen to me, They don't care if they ruin your life, all they want is cash. Please Don't Send Cash To Someone You Don't Really Know!

In conclusion!

I feel like an old fool, because I know better than to fall for something online like this type of scam. I just got online in 2009 and the first thing I did was look for things that I knew were scams. I received $250,000 in bad checks and money orders, I did this to keep others from falling for these scams, because it took money to send me the fake money. Always received the checks and money orders through UPS, their rates are not cheap. Also, I got their attention on me for a little while anyway and off someone else. I took these fake checks and money orders to every Law Enforcement agency, not one of them were interested in even looking at them, I ended up throwing them away. Not one agency cared, so I quit doing it, because no one cared about catching these thieves. If someone wants you to cash a check for them and send you a check. Take it to the bank that it is written on and check to see if it is real. You can also call the bank if one is not close to your location. I don't know what will become of me, because I did what someone online ask me to do. Please don't be stupid and fall for the scam I did., don't cash anything you received online and don't go to WalMart to send the money! You will be the one left holding the bag.

I've just read your post, David. Sorry to hear about your dilemma and I hope you can get back on your feet again soon.

Use this experience and write about it, as you have already done here. If you are able to stay as a free member or start another free account, I would advise you to do so.

I don't know the full in's and out's about how that all works after one becomes a premium member, (website and all that), but I wish you all the best.

There is a 6-month option available. Is there a chance that you could become a premium member for that 6-month stretch?

All the best, Wayne

Wayne I have been with WA for over six months and I hate this has happened to me, but I will overcome. I will find the money somewhere. I painted cars for 39 years but it is harder for me to do this kind of work at my age. I am working on a 1977 VW convertible for a friend I will her the money, I have been accepted into the SAC challenge and I am not going to miss this chance to work with Kyle. I have a saying " don't ever give up and never surrender " I will have the money in a few days to pay for my WA membership. Thanks for the support and encouragement. Please like my comments, thanks Sruffey.

We have a little something in common. I was a spray finisher for about 15 years, 11 in a cabinet shop spraying custom cabinets and the previous 4 working for a yacht company where I learned the trade whilst building multi-million dollar boats. Best times.

I can certainly relate to the physical aspects of the job and I don't do that anymore. Physically it just got the better of me so I had to say "no" after a back injury.

We shall overcome,
Wayne

Good on you for being so honest about what happened to you. It is a good warning for the rest of us. Thanks for reminding us that we could be the next one who is a scammer's victim.

There are so many good people who
get fooled by scammers who pretend to be
honest people.

Sorry for you!
Ingrid

Thanks for the support and encouragement, as always please like my comments, thanks Sruffey.

I got burned by the same fire twice Sruffey so don't feel like you're the lone ranger. I'm sorry it happened to a nice guy like you.

I almost got caught in one something similar in 2007. I received a check from someone in the mail for $50,000. It looked totally real and the bank was even real(in another state). Best I can recall from 12 years ago. It had similar instructions with it.

I took it to my banker and left it with them(not deposited) and she got in touch with me a couple of days later. Said it was an operation they were already aware of and turned it over to the local police.

That is the only experience I have had.

Anytime I am dealing with sending anyone money online it is always through PayPal and I can verify them.

That's very sad, David. It's no use beating yourself up over it and it was very brave of you to post all the details here as a warning.

I'm astounded at the US banking system. That really sucks. There's no way a check would appear as cleared in an Australian bank account until it was really cleared and the money was really there. Different system, I guess.

Similar in the UK Phil. We have to wait until we have cleared funds which could be up to 5 days after the cheque is presented at the bank. I suppose to stop this sort of thing happening.

Yes, the US banking system sounds like it's open to exploitation. Wouldn't you think they'd look at how others do it and fix it?

I left the check in the bank for four days and I thought it was good. If she was not so damn pretty I probably would not have fallen for her spleen. Thanks for the support and encouragement, Sruffey.

Im so sorry to read this. It is so frustrating because things seem so above board. Im rather cynical however about this sort of thing... I got friended in a similar way... I was a fool and had my picture up on a particular online game that I was part of. I didnt think about it at the time because I was playing an online game, one where you are part of an alliance and work as a team. I was there to play the game, nothing else but some of the guys on there were after other things.... they tried it on... similar thing to you.. being friendly, thinking they were smart.. but I was onto them... I knew what they were trying to do... But I am sorry you are in this predicament.

Watch this you tube video.... Im not sure if you will find it funny though... I did !

Thanks for the link and I did think it was funny. At least I smiled for a few minutes. Thanks Sruffey.
