Excellent post. I visited your website, great article. I thought the answer would be the dog. I loved and had cats since I was a child. Back home in Iran, or ( Persia ), Persian cats, as well as other cat breeds are by far the number 1 pet to own compared to any other pet. The ancient Egyptian, and Persian history, which respect cats plays a role in Cat's popularity. We have countless books and mystery stories written about cats, and If they get translated from Persian to other languages will be interesting books to read. Cats are extremely intelligent and loyal, unlike what many people think. Unfortunately I've never had a cat since I left my country to study in Germany long time ago. But I'd love to own another one someday here in the U.S.

I find it sad that one must make one animal sound bad to make another one seem better. I truly believe that the animal you choose to share your life with should suit your desires. I know my friend Kate is as passionate about cats as I am about dogs. She likes an independent animal, while I prefer the childlike quality of dependence displayed by a dog. And then there is my friend Beth - absolute lover of both!
You are right. I am writing from some of my experiences too.
