Sometimes It Snows in April 42216

I wasn’t by myself this morning, mourning Prince Roger Nelson today and just like "Snow in April" his death seemed out of place.

Although in his home town people wasted no time pouring out into the streets singing a Purple Rain tribute to the already missed icon. Prince in his lifetime sold over 100 million records worldwide. He won seven Grammys, a Golden Globe, and an Oscar. Rolling Stone ranked him No. 27 on its list of the 100 greatest artists of all time and in 2004 he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Iconic Eccentric Genius or Just Selfish

If you are anything like me, you’re so busy writing and establishing your own stuff that maybe you have forgotten to sit back and relax (actually dance & sing along) and be a Prince music junkie like you used to be. To be honest the reason any of us can't listen to any of his music for free is because he was very strict about getting paid for his art. Was he an iconic, eccentric, genius or just selfish?

I don't blame him, how would you like to be a construction worker, build a skyscraper, see it completed, it’s getting high levels of traffic but you’re not getting paid for your work? However, for $9.99 and the first month for free you can listen to his whole catalog of music over the years at JZ's streaming company Tidal.

Apples and Oranges

Although comparing Bowie to Prince is like comparing apples and oranges, at first glance it seemed like Prince could have learned from Bowie about the value of music streaming. However, just like a painter’s paintings go up in value after his earthly departure, so will Prince’s music by not being cheapened had he given it away like everyone else. In addition, those at Tidal will have made a good business decision.

Do We Have Another Conrad Murray Situation?

If we have another Conrad Murray situation where a doctor prescribed medicine for pain and was just a little too generous, I hope that justice is served. What I also hope is that before he was found lying on the floor of his Paisley Park elevator, he was not suffering and waiting for help that came too late. Whatever the case Prince will be missed in his home town, by me, you and as you can see here in this tribute by people who dressed just like him. :)

In fact, I’m going to take a cue from Prince Roger Nelson and push harder with the gifts that I’ve been given to make a difference in my little part of this real-estate called Earth.
