The father-in-law announces that he is coming to visit. Frantic housecleaning starts.
The primary computer crashes after a buggy security update is installed. Hubby - the head techie in the house - had it set up as a virtual server. No time to get it up and running while frantic housecleaning is happening.

The secondary computer gives up the ghost. Seven year old hardware that has been limping along for the last nine months. No time to get it up and running while frantic housecleaning is happening.
Father-in-law shows up. Family together time starts. A great time is had. Step-daughter and I have not seen father-in-law since last Christmas, and husband saw father when mother died early this summer. Touristy things happen - trip to the coast, trip up the Gorge, trip to the shooting range, etc.
Manage to nag husband into figuring out what hardware is needed to get secondary computer up and running. Trip to Fry's to get part of it; rest ordered from Amazon. Husband starts to put machine together.
Father-in-law leaves to visit other friends and family. Life returns to its normal rhythms.
