One of the biggest things I learnt while studying consumer behaviour in university is this - People like to think they make decisions logically.
But from a marketing perspective?
Emotion usually gets there first.
I started noticing this everywhere - especially in social media marketing. What grabs attention , builds trust, and influences decisions is often emotional before it becomes rational.
And once I understood that, the way I saw content completly changed.
On social media, people move fast.
Nobody is sitting there analysing each and every post.
They react first.
Something makes them:
- curious
- excited
- inspired
- validated
- emotional
That reaction usually happens in seconds.
Logic, usually comes after.
This was one of the biggest mindset shifts for me.
A lot of decisions online start emotionally.
We click because soemething feels interesting.
We follow because someone feels relatable.

We trust because something feels familiar.
Then later, we explain it logically.
From a social media marketing perspective, this matters a lot.
Because content that feels something tends to outperform content that simply explains something.
Think about what spreads online the fastest
Usually it's content that makes people feel:
- inspired
- entertained
- shocked
- understood
- motivated
Not because emotion replaces logic -but because emotion captures attention first.
And attention is the starting point of everything online.
This is something that I notice a lot now,
People might say that they bought a certain product because it made sense.
But often underneath that is:
- confidence
- identity
- aspiration
- comfort
- trust
The logic helps justify the choice.
But emotion often opens the door.
The strongest content usually does both because it:
- makes someone feel something first
- gives them a reason to stay or act after
Because this has changed how I approach content now. Emotion pulls people in.
Logic helps them justify the situation.
So now, when I create content or analyse content, I just don't ask myself - " Is this informative?”
I ask: "How does this make someone feel?”
Because information alone rarely moves people.
Emotion does .
From a marketing perspective, emotion usually arrives before logic.
We feel first , react second and explain it to ourselves later
