Most People Focus on Content. I Focus on Positioning.

One thing studying marketing changed for me is how I think about content.
Before, I used to think success online came down to:
- posting more
- following trends
- creating better content
I realised something during my days of study and that was this- content matters, but positioning also matters more.
A lot of people focus on these steps:
- making content look good
- getting engagement
- keeping up with trends
Positioning is more different. Positioning involves the following:
- how people perceive you
- what they associate you with
- what space you occupy in their mind
and that changes everything .
Two people can post similar content pieces. But the person with the stronger positioning will usually stand out more. This is because they understand:

- who they are
- what they talk about
- why they’re worth paying attention to
Positioning creates clarity before the content is even consumed.
Now I think:
- what message am I reinforcing?
- how do I want to be perceived long-term?
- does this align with the identity I’m building?
Because random content creates random perception.
And perception matters more than people realise.
You can't position yourself once.
In fact, it happens overtime through:
- repeated messaging
- consistent themes
- recognisable tone and perspective
That's how people start associating you with something specific.
A post getting views doesn't automatically make a brand.
What matters is:
- what people remember after
- how they interpret your content
- what meaning they attach to it
That is what positioning is.
Most people focus on creating content.
But I am focusing on creating perception
