My First Paycheck as a Blog Editor

I received my first paycheck from my work as a blog editor. I can’t believe I’ve been two weeks at my new job already! Time flies when you have new things to do.

I have still been enjoying the work more than should be normal for how boring it sounds on paper… It seem sort of unreal to me, that someone wants to pay me for doing something that I do naturally, without any credit or recognition, every single day. This is a skill I have built up and trained myself to use automatically. It’s almost like someone has said, “Here, I’m going to pay you for drinking that glass of water.”

I plan to invest all that I’m earning into growing my own business, and I’m not just talking financially - the confidence and practical experience I am gaining from this opportunity is invaluable.

I’m just trying my best to soak it all in, and I’m looking for ways that I can make every scrap of new information work for me. I guess that is the entrepreneurial side showing its colors.

I hope all I’m learning can be of some benefit to you guys, too. Do you know what I’ve discovered from working on this website? They are no different from us. There is no magical leprechaun dust you need to procure in order to create a successful website. All of the tools available here are the same ones they are using over there (some of ours might even be a bit better!) You only need to commit to learning how to use them well.

For some reason, I was shocked when I found this out. “Hey look, it’s Yoast!” I said, like I was greeting an old acquaintance, “I know how this works!”

And other new programs that I have learned to use - like CoSchedule, which is pretty cool - only make me feel more comfortable with the back office of my own website. When I sit down to edit for them, it makes me think, hey, if I can publish posts to their satisfaction, then I can do it for my website, too.

I will be working on a much smaller scale, of course, but I am okay with that. (I might even prefer it, but I will tell you more about that later.)

Oh, and in the interests of full disclosure, I did have to splurge a little and spend a part of this paycheck on something not business related. (Although it may have boosted my productivity.) I’m doing good, I can treat myself a little, right?

Here it is: A brand spankin’ new Ninja coffee maker. Yeah, baby!

This was also partly a practical decision. You should see the sludge I’ve been drinking - like something out of a hospital waiting room. Trust me, I earned this. ;)

That's awesome Bee! Yes you do deserve it.
I know that you'll be successful here, and that WA is going to catapult your success. You have a great attitude (contagious) and a much-needed skill.
Your blogs have a magnetic affect that draws people towards wanting you to be a part of their team.
Good job Bee, and congratulations.

Thank you, I appreciate the kind words! I hope I can convert this experience into helping others build awesome businesses. I don't really have that with the website I'm working for now, since they are already established in their process - but this is a great start.

I'm really happy for your success.
The coffee pot looks pretty cool too.

Haha, yes it is very cool! It even has a timer that lets me set it for when I get up in the morning, so my coffee is ready and waiting for me!

Great information. Thanks for sharing. Lovely to read how much you are enjoying both your work and WA, and how similar what you do at your new job is to things we do here at WA. All the best and power on.

I know, I feel like I have finally found a way forward. I can't wait to see where it leads me. Thanks for stopping by!
