HELP - I lost my editor!

7
505 followers

Yesterday I lost my Internet connection when editing the post "Build website with WordPress".

When I later got my Internet connection up and came back no post or page were visible in the editor when clicked, but all post and pages could be seen when previewed.

Today all posts and pages are back visible in the editor, but the editor itself is only showing text edit (HTML) and no visual edit (blank)..

I have virtually NO SKILLS using HTML so what do I do?

This interrupts my test of making minimum two posts a day for the next 15 days, so please help so I can get back to writing and editing! :-(

All the best!

I'm stuck on the station - the train left!

On my slow internet connection it says it wants to take 4 hours to download the Chrome browser!!

Hi all,

Kyle and Carson suggested to change the browser. I am now using Opera and the editor is currently working.

I will use it to do some editing and report back tonight my time so everyone can get the end of the story.

Cheers

Chrome is going to be your best bet for a browser that works with WA.

Nathaniell,

I get you. Thanks!

I am going to try to access this through Chrome today, to see if everything works OK.

Hi all,

my editing with Opera went fine yestterday, and today it looks like it works with Chrome, my standdard browser.

Conclusion: Change browser, in case you loose the visual editor, seems like a good idea you maybe should try as early as possible.

I'm on a journey to online success!
Will you follow?

Will do, thanks again!

You can follow anyone you want to but its up to the individual if they reciprocate.

Hello Rolf
Glad you got everything fixed ok but a lot of members do have problems with their Visual Editor acting up.

If it happens again you might like to follow the instructions on this training.

How To Fix Missing Visual Editor Have a nice day and weekend.
Robert

Hi Robert,

thanks a lot -- I should not have told that it was fixed! After a couple of minutes using it it happened again! So I am going the rounds again.

I maybe start using my blog to write content and then transfer it to the site as I believe Loes suggested.

Cheers

Still on a journey to online success!
But today somewhat unsure where that may be..:-)

A lot of the more experienced members create a Rubix Test Site within WA and they test stuff out on it.
Then its just a case of a simple transfer once you have it the way you want it.

It also saves a lot of hassle and corrections later on.

Have a nice day.
Robert

The interruption in your internet connection would NOT have affect Wordpress at all. Your website is hosted in the cloud (somewhere else), so any problems on your local computer won't affect it.

Are you just missing a single page you created? It's probably gone because you didn't save it before the power went out.

If your entire editor is missing and you cannot edit posts, view posts, or publish posts, then it's likely a plugin conflict as Kyle said, or an issue with the theme. Have you been editing code recently?

Hi Nathaniell,

Good to see that my Internet connection are out of the question.

I have NOT lost anything, but the editor allow only text (HTML) mode. When I try to tutn to visual the editor go blank.

I have tried the following in line woth Ky;e's advice and your comment:

1. I have disabled each plug-in, one at a time and tried. NO effect.
2. I have the latest version og WP
3. Plug ins are rated 100% in the log in panel
4. The latest version of the theme is installed
5. I have tried updating the page. Then the editor shrinks to 1/3 (approximately) of the editor width, and only goes back after several pushes of esc.

I will log out of WA and log in again. If that's not helping I will change my theme to see if that is ab option.

I have to be back online till Sunday, as I plan to start a campaing with 2 articles per day for the next 15 days to see if that has an impact on the search engines. :-)

Cheers

struggling, but in high spirit!

Double check this training, but it sounds like you've done a lot of the steps:

Hi Kyle,

I have only 4 plugins; Exclude Pages, CAPTCHA, WP Spamshield and Yoast SEO. All-in-One SEO is deactivated.

There may be an issue with Yoast, and I will try to deactivate it and see if that helps.

But if deactivating Yoast doesn;t help is there other possibilities to explore?

Thanks for replying this fast --it's fantastic servoce!
rolfkb
still stuck but in much better mode! :-)

Update: Tried to deactivate all plug-ins, one by one. Did not work.

I will try to change the theme to see if that works.

rolfkb

If your editor is not showing up or not working as expected, this is likely a plugin issue or issue related to your version of plugins/themes/wordpress conflicting with one another.

I suggest you make sure that first and foremost your plugins/themes and your version of wordpress are all updated (it will show any updates within the back-end of your WP-admin area).

If that does not fix this, then a plugin is causing these issues here so if you recently added a plugin, you might want to deactivate this and see if that fixes the issue.

These should solve your problems here, but if you do have any further issues moving forward please do let me know. ;)

Kyle,
Deactivating Yoast did not do it. When I tried to use the visual editor all went blank, also the content disappeard.

I have made all updates requested by WordPress as well as the Themes and the plug-ins, so there should be no issues with that.

Can there be a conflict between the last WP update and the theme update? If so, would this not materialize immediately or not many days after I did the updates?

Could the interruption of my Internet connection yesterday cause this, as it started when I got back to the site after the interruption?

I have also tried to refresh the page and then the editor area shrunk to cover 1/3 of the width of the editor area! The buttons with 'visual" and "text" ended under the button for "Add media"!

But still everything is visible at preview. But I cannot publish the post because all links were not there and I introduce a lot of typos when I write so I need to clean that up as well.

If no other way I will use HTML!

Cheers

Hi Kyle and Nathaniell!

Case closed!

I finally managed to get the visual editor back again!

I tried a lot of things but what made the difference was actually a reboot of my computer!

Thanks for putting me in the right direction. A little elbow grease and determination of not giving up! Thanks for helping out!

Cheers

Back on my journey to online success! :-)

Hi Kyle and Caeson!

The proposal of using another browser worked!

I am now using Opera in Win10, and the editor seem to be working normally again.

I will log in and try to do some editing and writing and report back in the evening my time.

Thank you for excellent service and follow up.
