There's no doubt that every Author starts out with a whole lot of questions, especially at the beginning of the writing process. The problem is, without the right answers, most authors throw up their hands and just give up. Four months ago, I began a program of losing weight that uses a popular phone app. We all know that losing weight can be accomplished by eating less and exercising more. There is a little twist, though, because you can eat a whole lot more of certain foods and still lose weight.

I have lost 35 pounds using this program. The app gives daily encouragement and talks about psychology quite a bit. What I like about it is that it give you a chart that shows your daily weight. You can see the downward trend as your weight fluctuates up and down. It logs in the calories for your meals, and it has many of the commonly eaten foods listed with their calories. It basically has you on a 1400 calorie diet, but it adds to your allowable calorie budget when you exercise. Walking usually adds an additional 200 calories or so.

When I first started, my goal was to walk 2,000 steps per day. The program would give you a new goal each day, and it would increase the number of steps each day by about 150 steps. I have worked my way up to walking 10,000 steps a day. By being persistent, I have reached this goal. I found out that I enjoy the walks.

This reason is important because it shows the value of not giving up. I was away from home the last two days, but I was still able to maintain the ten thousand steps by walking in a fairly large rectangle made up of four streets. It would have been easy to skip yesterday and today.

Here's how you use this: Set yourself a daily goal. If you are a writer, set a word goal for the day. Another way of doing it is to set a number of five-minute writing projects. If you do 15 of those projects per day, it is easy to write a chapter per day in 75 minutes.

Use this when you have your book planned out for all the chapters with the writing plans for the five-minute goals.
