Learning and Sharing is a great activity and discipline. The result is that as you learn and share, you become more knowledgeable and more confident. It’s a wonderful feeling!
Today, I have to share some thoughts that I read in a book entitled, 5 Principles for a Successful Life. It quoted some thoughts from another book entitled, Mindset, having to do with how and what people believe to be true when it comes to intelligence.
Here is a quote from the book. “…the belief in our ability to affect our intelligence might be more important than our actual intelligence.” I understand that statement to mean that we might believe that we’re highly intelligent with no real thought to our ability (or potential). We simply believe that we should understand, or be able to do, or grasp without any consideration of the possibility of difficulty.

Further, it talks about how some people believe in a growth mindset while others believe in a fixed mindset and how it affects how hard people will work and how people will react to failure. It actually states, “…inevitable failure”. The author, Dr. Carol Dweck, conducted research which indicated, “…it’s better for children to believe that hard work matters than to believe that they are smart.” Interesting concept, I thought. She says that a growth mindset believes that “intelligence is malleable” (meaning adaptable) “and can be developed through education and hard work”, while the ones who hold a fixed mindset “believe that intelligence is a fixed trait.”
You might be thinking right now, ‘Which mindset group do I fit into – growth or fixed? Come back tomorrow to learn more about this concept and Dr. Dweck’s research results.
