How to prepare to start a new blog
There are couple things you need to know before you start your blog.
- Who is your target audience?
- What are is the gender and age of your reader?
- How do they spend their free time?
- How can you help them, can you produce what they seek?
- What is their occupation?
- Where do the live?
- Where do they hang out?
- What kind of hobbies do they enjoy.
What is their typical day like, what would make a very special day in their lives?
What makes them an ideal customer for the product you're promoting?
Now brainstorm.- Think of things that could interest them about the product you are promoting?[ of each group]
- Once you have then pick out common keywords and keyword phrases that would draw them to your blog.
- Write this all down and brain storm possible keywords and phrases that would relate for several minutes for each group of people you feel you could target.
Compare and Contrast.
- Write out a mind map of sorts of the phrases the cross relate to your different groups.
Now do your keyword research and also look for long tail keywords as taught by Kyle and others here based on the phrases you have crossed referenced that relate amongst all your targeted groups of people.
Write out your Title tag based on your main keyword- try to incorporate a [ like for example New Data] as part of your title tag.
You can test your title tag and metadata, snippet at http://www.seomofo.com/snippet-optimizer.html
You now should have a good idea of the direction of your blog, you can map out more keywords and subtitles and write content that relates and incorporates under each subtitle.
Always include a conclusion, a summary of your work.
Include your call to action in the last couple lines of text, leave your readers feeling they learnt something from you, make your site memorable so that when they leave to go to your competitors site they will be thinking in the back of their mind about what they learnt and what you had to offer on your blog/site.

Thanks Robert! A blog is a short and sweet page, right? Do you think it's easier to blog than to keep creating websites Could I use an existing post on my website as a blog?
I'm not sure Pbitzer, I meant here new article on a website but yeah you could use this too to create a whole niche website
These are some great tips. Many times it is tempting to not want to spend time thinking about the specifics of our target audience. However, if we follow your tips, we should have more success.
