How a Comment Can Be a Resource: My 5 'Ah-Ha Moments'
Hello everyone, it's been a while since my last post. I've been meaning to write for some time and finally make a valuable contribution, and the answer to another member's question provided the perfect inspiration for this new post.
To be honest, I've been a member of Wealthy Affiliate for several years, and throughout this long journey, I've experienced ups and downs, failures, and fresh starts. I've followed trends, achieved results, wasted precious time, and enrolled in numerous courses and programs. But my one constant through all of this has always been Wealthy Affiliate, and, as you'll see, there's a reason for that.
All of this experience has now led me to share my 5 'Ah-ha moments' with you. These are the small discoveries that completely changed my approach to my online business and helped me overcome the initial difficulties.
The Biggest Challenge: Self-Reflection
When results are slow to come, we always blame the system. But we never stop to reflect on ourselves, on whether we followed the instructions to the letter, or if we took a shortcut.
If a system has a large following, it's because its members have gotten results, and in many cases, they've even documented them. So why haven't you? It's simple: you haven't followed the process through to completion. Maybe the upgrade you didn't subscribe to was the key to getting a result faster, or maybe, with a free profile, you gave up before anything significant happened.
The truth is, you've been too focused on the idea of making money without spending it. However, you should be aware that in some cases, spending is necessary. Even if you've joined for free, the systems you choose are not charities—they are businesses. You have to get into that mindset. Only when you've honestly tried everything for a reasonable amount of time (at least a year) can you say that a system doesn't work for you.
1. Patience is Your Best Asset
Initially, I wanted everything right away. I thought that by publishing 10 articles, I would start making money. It didn't happen. My first big realization was understanding that success in affiliate marketing isn't a sprint, but a marathon. I stopped checking my stats daily and started focusing on the process.
I told myself: "What matters isn't tomorrow's result, but today's work." From that moment on, I started to enjoy the journey, and the frustration disappeared.
2. The Website Isn't a Destination, but the Vehicle
My first website was a museum of affiliate links. I focused on "selling, selling, selling." It didn't work.
My second 'ah-ha moment' was realizing that my site shouldn't be a store, but a vehicle for helping people. When I started writing articles to solve their problems, answer their questions, and provide honest reviews, traffic began to grow, and as a result, the first sales followed.
Your website is a service. Offer value, and people will keep coming back.
3. The Value Is in Helping, Not in Selling
This is connected to the previous point, but it's deeper. Initially, I thought my job was to convince people to make a purchase. My perspective changed when I started focusing on helping. Instead of writing, "Buy this product!", I began writing, "Here's how I solved problem X with product Y, and if you have the same problem, this might be the solution for you, too."
This mindset fostered trust and made my readers more receptive to my message. It's the difference between being a salesperson and a trusted consultant.
4. The Community Is Your Secret Weapon
I spent the first few weeks working alone, convinced I had to solve every problem myself. I discovered I was making a huge mistake. The Wealthy Affiliate community is an invaluable resource.
Although I've personally asked very few questions, I've always found answers—often in an indirect way—by leveraging the existing conversations and interactions within the community. The sheer volume of content, tutorials, and discussions already present is an inexhaustible source of knowledge. I learned to search the chats, read blog posts from other members, and find solutions to problems I hadn't even thought of yet.
This taught me that there's nothing more powerful than a community where people actively help one another.
5. One Step at a Time
The last 'ah-ha moment' was the simplest. We often feel overwhelmed by the numerous tasks that need to be completed, such as writing, SEO, link building, and social media management.
I realized that the best approach is to focus on just one task at a time. I started dedicating myself to a single goal each day: "Today I'll only write the draft of an article," "Tomorrow I'll only focus on keyword research." This made the process much more manageable, allowing me to make consistent progress day by day.
I hope my 'ah-ha moments' can be helpful to you, too. Remember, we're all in the same boat. The key is consistency and the willingness to learn.
What about you? Have you had any moments of realization on your journey? Please share them in the comments!
Enjoy your journey!
Cheers!

Great post! I had issues when I started here at WA with numbers 1, 4 & 5. Even though I was already making a decent amount of money online as an eBay Power Seller, I should have realized that I needed to be patient, feed off the community in a constructive way and focus on one task at a time.
I understood that my website was a vehicle and it was helping my readers to make an informed decision and not shove affiliate links in front of them. However my problems had to do with my appetite for the concept of affiliate marketing and because WA made it so easy to get up and running.
I made the mistake of creating two niche websites, pretty much at the same time. It wasn't because I was desperate to earn money quickly. I just had many niche ideas I wanted to start. I should have just been patient and focused on one task and one site until it started making money and not rushing things.
Then because I love helping people, I spent way too much time interacting with the WA community, eating up all the knowledge I could. It wasn't until a few years ago that I stepped away from WA, blocked out the noise and focused on my niche. Now my niche is doing great because I was patient and focused.
Hey, Piergiorgio,
Thank you for sharing your journey and tips with us. It's true that when we focus on what we want to get before we give, we miss it altogether. But that's what we almost always do and it's a sad reality. Keep learn, keep sharing.

Good morning Piergiorgio,
Thank you for your very wise and truthful blog post.
It's amazing how many people think if they flood their website with affiliate links, they are going to make sales, as we know, it's not quite like that! However, we can learn from our mistakes, but we keep moving forward.
When I first came to Wealthy Affiliate, which is almost 11 years ago, I really came for the up-to-date training, which is great. However, I quickly realised the value of the community, it's great to be able to mix and communicate with like-minded people. It's also good to be able to share ideas and ask questions, etc.
Over the years, I have seen the biggest key to success, is being consistent, we need to turn up regularly. Every successful Internet marketer that I know is consistent!
I wish you every success with your online business, Piergiorgio.
Have a great day.
Roy
Thanks, Roy, for sharing your experience and your appreciation for the post.
