Question about hosting.

I have a question! It may seem obvious, but I just want to make sure. I had a website before coming to WA. I transferred the dns to WA. It went smooth and the website it up and rolling. My yearly fee is up at 1&! (that is where I had it hosted.) I don't have to pay the fee anymore to 1&1 as I have transferred to WA, or do I? I know that we have free hosting, but am not sure about when you transfer.

Thanks for your help!

It would be the same as when I buy a domain name from namecheap. I pay namecheap yearly for the name but have it hosted here at WA.

Thanks!

Looks like you're covered.

Thanks!

WA is the host but 1+1 still has the domain. That is how I understand it.Were you able to transfer the hosting with content to WA without a problem? It appears that you did but I had a question about that.

I had 1&1 for the domain name only. I changed the dns to Wa without a problem. The hosting was done by another company that deals only with photography. I decided to use my domain name here and redo all the content. It was only for my clients to see their proofs and I do not have any clients that are actively looking at proofs right now, so it was a good time to change. So I didn't move the content just the domain name.

Thanks phoenix.I had a namecheap domain that I bought before I understood hosting.I put a canva image on it and lost that before I tried to change the hosting. I had to get it changed manually do to a tech problem. I wonder if it was because of the content and Do I need do a 301 or 404 or what ever the case may be?

It may have been because of the content. I am really not sure. I would post the question to the community about 301 or 404. I am not sure about that. Don't want to steer you in the wrong direction! : )

Thanks Phoenix:)

You should not have to pay your old hosting company. It depends on your subscription with them. If you paid for a year and the year is not up, you should owe them nothing. You may be entitled to a refund, but probably not.
At WA your hosting is part of your membership, including all the training, etc. So it is not "free" as you say. It is included in your monthly/yearly membership.
Whether you cancel the old membership after you transfer to WA is also a choice. You can use multiple hosts if you like. Whatever is best for your business.

Hi - WA does not (currently) provide domain name registration - so if you had your domain name through 1&1 (I did too for some), then you still need to pay them for the domain name renewal.

They will continue to provide the domain services, and let you point it to WA hosting.

Your monthly/annual fee with WA - pays for your hosting - your 1&1 domain name simply points your domain to WA.

So please be careful, and don't cancel everything with 1&1 - and make sure you keep your domain name services.

I've dealt with 1&1 for many years, so if you're in any doubt, either log a ticket with them (they are very good in my experience), or drop me a note - and we'll try and ensure your transition to WA hosting, and remaining 1&1 domain hosting, goes smoothly.

All the best, Mark

You're very welcome Liz - just make sure they don't renew automatically your website hosting, unless you have other sites with them.

Cheers, Mark

Thanks! That's what I thought. I just wanted to make sure. They renew automatically, so it shouldn't be a problem. Thanks again!

Liz

I had another hosting site which I already cancelled. Thanks!

I wrote my question wrong. I had my hosting at another place which I cancelled as WA is now the host. I was paying month to month, so no big deal. I just wanted to know if I have to renew the domain name thru 1&1. I appears that I do. Thanks for the help!

No problem. I did think you were talking about hosting rather than registration. Glad you got your answer.

Thanks for answering my question. You really helped my today!

Hosting is free, but for domain name you have to pay
