Every Little Bit Counts – Like Driving 10MPH IS Better Than Driving 0MPH

I know it’s been a few weeks since I have been active in the community. But none the less I am still here. Here to stay.

At times my job gets pretty busy. Now I don’t work with my hands anymore, the mental stimulation of running numbers all day sure gets you tired. I am not your average Joe, who works 9-5, 1 hour driving to and from work in the big city. Nope. Not I. I work in the Oil & Gas industry. For the last year I have been working in an area that is a 12 hour drive from my home.

I also do not have a set schedule. So when I am home next is usually a surprise. Also out here in “the field”, as we oil patch workers call it. I work 12 hour shifts, everyday, all day, until the day I am set for going home. I alternate between working night shift (7pm – 7am) and day shift on each new “hitch”. The days worked between going back home, as we like to call it a “hitch”. For example my last hitch was 28 days straight, day shifts and then I returned home for 12. I do not get weekends off while at work or any holidays for that matter.

Sometimes it works out that I receive more days off in a year then the average Mon-Fri gig. Especially since summer time is downtime for us up here in the Canadian Oil & Gas industry. But as you can imagine, every time I arrive home there’s a month’s worth of mail to go through. Vehicle maintenance to get done. Sleep to catch up on. Stuff to do around the house and so on! Needless to say I do enjoy my job and working away from home. Also I am a self-employed contractor and I cannot complain about the pay.

Now when it comes to this online business deal. Well “Every Little Bit Counts”. I utilize my free time at work to continually work on my web pages. At home I do as much as I can. Even a couple paragraphs of content is better than saying “I’ll get to it later”. I use the same mentality while driving in epic weather like snow storms. If I drive at just crawl I am still making head way rather than sitting at the side of the road for hours, waiting for the silly storm to pass. Like I said “Driving 10MPH Is Better Than Driving 0MPH”. At least you’re getting somewhere.

So even in the busiest of days just being able to write down something for your next page of content really helps. Then when you can have your full undivided attention to your content you have already started it. It’s almost like taking down notes. This way you are always progressing. Never want to sit idle.

You are one busy guy. I'm proud of you for being persistent and keeping it going. You're right, every bit counts. :)

Well thank you! I remind myself even the littlest things help. Like Setting up menus, messing with the theme so you get your proper look. Starting drafts of pages that need to be completed. It takes time but just each little nugget will soon add up to a full sac!

Great philosophy. Good way to avoid overwhelm and the dreaded perfectionism too. Nice post!

Thank you. I do sometimes fall victim to trying to make things perfect. I have learned in my past that it was an absolute, correction, IS an absolute time eater. It consumes so much time when you do that and eventually it will consume you. When this happens we don't have a completed project/product. I have sever drafts on the go as we speak. Soon to be published pages on one of my sites. It nice to go back and think "oh, that's what I was thinking that day". Either keep it or amend it to make it better. At least something is consistently being done. =)
