Anchoring: How I Learned to Access Confidence on Demand

I used to think confidence was something you either had… or didn’t.

Some days I felt unstoppable and other days I didn’t.

I don’t know about you but that drives me crazy. Especially when I’m trying to build something.

What changed everything for me was discovering anchoring, which is a core practice in NLP.

Once I understood how anchoring worked, and more importantly, how to install it intentionally, I realized confidence isn’t random. It’s programmable.

Anchoring is the process of linking a specific emotional state to a physical trigger. What’s a ‘trigger’ I hear you say. Wait and read on.

Oh. And by the way you probably already do this unconsciously.

Think about it…

A certain song plays and suddenly you're back in high school.

A smell reminds you of home.

A tone of voice instantly makes you tense.

That’s anchoring. It’s your nervous system firing off a stored state.

In NLP, we flip that from accidental to deliberate.

So now instead of waiting for confidence to show up…
I trigger it on demand.

Here’s a simple breakdown of what I did:

  1. I remembered a time when I felt completely confident, completely certain, clear and powerful (it has to be a personal experience)
  2. I stepped into that memory vividly. I saw what I saw. I heard what I heard. I felt it in my body (really get into the image you are thinking of)
  3. At the emotional peak, I pressed my thumb and middle finger together firmly.
  4. I repeated the process several times to “stack” the state. (“stack” just means to really get the feel of the state)

That physical gesture became my trigger.

Now when I press my finger and thumb together intentionally, my nervous system reactivates that confident state.

This isn’t a fake confidence. It’s not just hype but it’s a real embodied certainty.

And that’s classic NLP state management.

So why does this matter so much in Wealthy Affiliate

Let’s be honest. Building an online business messes with your head sometimes (Well it does with me, but you might be superhuman).

Just think about doing these things…

Publishing your first blog post.
Shooting your first video.
Promoting an affiliate link.
Seeing low traffic.
Trying again anyway.

For these things confidence isn’t optional. It’s fuel.

Anchoring helps me because I have the confidence to:

Hit publish even when I feel exposed

Write reviews and recommendations with conviction

And stay consistent when results are slow

Instead of waiting to “feel ready,” I trigger readiness. That alone helps speed up my growth inside Wealthy Affiliate.

Anchoring isn’t just about pressing fingers together.

It works because of a thing called state-dependent behaviour. In NLP, we know that:

Your physiology affects your psychology.

Your internal representations shape your emotions.

Your language patterns reinforce your identity.

So when I anchor confidence, I don’t just remember a moment. I also…

Straighten my posture.

Take a deep breath

And I adjust my internal dialogue. I use empowering language like “I create value” rather than “I hope this works.”

Believe it or not, that alignment locks the state in deeper.

It becomes neurological conditioning.

So how does anchoring boosts performance in Affiliate Marketing

Well inside Wealthy Affiliate, success is less about tactics and more about consistency.

Anchoring helps with:

1. Content Creation Flow
When I anchor confidence before writing, my tone shifts. My words feel stronger. My calls to action land better.

2. Video Presence
Camera nerves disappear. I speak clearer. I sound certain and people trust certainty.

3. Sales Psychology
Confidence is contagious. When I believe in what I’m recommending, readers feel it.

4. Resilience
Low clicks? Algorithm shifts? No panic. I anchor resourcefulness instead of frustration.

That’s the beauty of this NLP principle: you can anchor any state -

confidence, calm, focus, creativity. The options are endless.

Now this is the bigger realization

What anchoring really taught me is this:

Confidence isn’t a personality trait.

It’s a trained state.

I stop asking:
“Am I confident today?”

And ask:
“What state do I need right now?”

Then I trigger it.

How You Can Start Today

If you’re building inside Wealthy Affiliate and sometimes doubt creeps in, try this:

Pick one powerful memory.

Experience it fully six or seven times.

Attach a unique physical trigger. (Squeeze your fist. Tap your finger)

Repeat it until it feels automatic.

Use it before publishing, presenting, promoting or what ever you are doing.

Simple. Strategic. Neurological. That’s anchoring.

And for me, it’s been one of the most practical NLP tools I’ve ever used.

Confidence on demand isn’t magic.

It’s conditioning.

Let me know your thoughts and difficulties you are facing.
