Balance between being open minded and closed minded

If you think, life has no cliffhanger; it can prove you wrong in a very funny way. The situation can be worst if you are an extremist. Many Holy books say extreme is always dangerous. Whether you are strictly close-minded or severely open-minded both situations lead to disaster.

So, who are you? Are you close-minded or open-minded? Are you firm and assertive or are you flexible and receptive? Whatever you are, both positions are not good. It is significant to have a balance between these two extremes. For a smooth life, a person must have open-minded as well as close-minded depending on the situation.

Close-minded people

Close-minded people are often reserve. They do not want to revise their beliefs. Such people are very firm about their views on various topics and regardless of logical discussion; they are hesitant to break their shell. Usually, close-minded people are known as non-creative. They do not want to widen their horizon and see things with new perspective. The have their own set of rules and they are very strict and loyal to these sets of instructions.

Do you think, being a close-minded is always bad? Well, I believe, nothing is 100 percent bad or good. Every coin has two sides and so everything has some advantages and disadvantages.

Advantages and drawbacks of Close-mind

If you are a close-minded person, you are more likely to be resilient on your values. People do not make you fool easily and neither can they take advantages of you. You take energy from your beliefs and pass it to other generations too.

The major drawback of being a close-minded is that you are very predictable. You behave certainly in a certain condition. Your sets of beliefs are formed on ancestral rules and ethics and you do not accept changes gracefully. When the world is changing, you are stuck with your tenets. This can be fatal sometimes.

Open-minded people

These people are always ready to accept new challenges. They are very keen to prove themselves even in the adverse situation. Most open-minded people are creative. They always ready to find new ideas and ways for better livelihood.

Do you think open-minded are always right? If you are an extremist, the open-mindedness can be dangerous.

Advantages and Disadvantages of open-mindedness

The open-minded people color the world as a rainbow. From great artisans to revolutionaries, all are somewhere open-minded and accept the changes with open arm. Obviously, these people always get a front seat in the development of livelihood.

The eagerness to welcome everything is the biggest drawback of open-minded people. They fail to realize that not every glitter is gold. Nature has some definite set of rules and on cannot bend it above its bending capacity. Indeed, being an extreme open-minded is as fatal as being an extreme close-minded.

Why is it necessary to have a balance between being close-minded and open-minded?

You cannot paint everything either black or white. Do not forget, between the black and white the magnificent spectrum of rainbow exist. It is highly immature to see the world either this way or that way. Remember, Charles Darwin “Survival of the fittest” theory. One who cannot change oneself according to the surrounding cannot survive.

The survival is possible when a person thinks in between these two extremists of personal traits. If you stuck in one position, you cannot achieve your stipulated goals. One has to learn to change the band of the spectrum of the personal traits as and when require. If you are narrow-minded, you will not welcome the new discoveries and if you are wide-minded, you never obey the society rules.

The idea is not to sway with the breeze but understand that according to the situations, one must have the ability to switch or can have a balance between close-mindedness and open-mindedness.
