Exploring Niches

Finding a niche is key to building an online business. Many find it overwhealming to figure out just a single one. But what if you have the opposite problem - having multiple niches to chose from already? As a polymath, I can sometimes find it difficult to narrow down and specialize because it is not in my nature (polymaths are hardwired to explore and connect disparate subjects - that is why they can learn so many disciplines). My approach will therefore need to be a little bit tweaked. Here's what I plan to do:

Rather than develop a new niche from scratch, I will build on what I already have. Below are a list of projects that are already up and running, that I want to monetize and that I know I can consistently keep producing quality content for.

- Fun, free ninja-themed cooking lessons

- Digital Nomad/Polymath lifestyle - how to make the lifestyle work for you, how to finance it and how to get the most out of it

- Women's safety, MMA and fighter's fitness:

- Fuel-free/off-grid cooking (Solar cooking, thermal cooking and other cool solutions)

- Business-in-a-box: What does it take to build the ultimate go-anywhere business? (this is currently part of the digital nomad/polymath blog).

Still with me? Cool!

Ok, here's what I will do over the next 3 days:

1. I want to know what you think - which of these niches/topics sound the most intruiging and interesting to you? Please share your thoughts. I will read and reply to every single one of you.

2. I will do some serious keyword research on these topics and formulate a game plan. Then I will share it right here on this blog.

3. Based on how my research goes and the comments you post, I will decide on one niche and go for it. I'll keep you posted.

Here we go!

I think all of them have potential except that first one, which seems too small of a niche but I'm not a cook so I may be wrong. How to determine your niche is partly by knowing how many affiliate products are available for you to use in your content. Then yes keyword research would be important to know how many people are searching it out every month. I wish you well whatever you choose!

Thank you for your kind words! That's really helpful feedback, @littlemama - thank you!

I will definitely take the availability of affiliate products into account. There are a vast number of programs out there!

What do you usually look for in a good afilliate program?

I guess I look for availability of the variety of products I can use and the commission structure; maybe also how often they pay out.

Thanks for sharing !

Pat
