Sitecomments: be a comment Pro, not a comment NO.
Hello, my lovelies!
I am LOVING the use of sitecomments! Unfamiliar with Sitecomments? Click on the SiteRubix Blue rectangle to your left and you will see 'comments'... click it. Click it real good. You just found a major comment fest, where you actually get comments when you ask for them!
I stumbled upon this a few days ago after growing more disgruntled at the vast lack of reciprocating that everyone promises, but never deliver. How THRILLED I was to find this!!! But, alas... there is a dark side, my young Padawan.
What's that? A dark side to the sitecomments? YES--> Some people do not understand what it means to leave a QUALITY COMMENT. You know, the kind of comment that someone who has read your article might leave... not a gushing, 'I love the flow of your site' crap comment. No. An engaging comment that actually addresses something about the article just read.
So, here it is folks. Without further adieu...
Sitecomments: How to be a comment superstar.
DO NOT: Talk about off topic things.
Contradict ANYTHING in the article.
Say generic and vague things that make the writer believe you didn't bother to read it.
Ask for information about competitors products..( UGH! Really...)
There are more, but if you can abide by those don'ts, you should do well with these do's...
DO: Ask an engaging question that the writer can further elaborate in response.
Approach the comment like a person who was ACTUALLY looking for this information would... put yourself in their shoes and show GENUINE interest in your comment about the article.
Act as though the writer conveyed their expertise in the article.
Comment as though you had been looking for this information.
Ok, rant over:) Don't settle for bad comments. I'm an expert commenter...(commenter?) If you need quality comments and will RECIPROCATE, then please hit me up.
HAPPY WRITING!

Hi Nicky,
I look for engaging comments and don't pretend to be the all knowing one. I would appreciate a correcting comment if it is pertaining to the content and done with good spirit. Sometimes this can lead to dialogue. This can only help in your sites ranking.
Grammarly can help manny a neophyte write professional looking content.
Marty
Hi Marty,
Good spirit is the key! We have to remember that in the written word, we don't have a persons expression or tone to help show intent. I appreciate correcting done in good spirit:) But it has to be engaging. If it doesn't come off as engaging or good spirited, then it's best to just comment on-topic and stay on the positive side.
Agreed Nicky, One should earn the right to voice an opinion and do so in a respectful polite manner. I do think that tone can be perceived in the written word albeit with the limitation of not seeing facial expression.
I do know when something rubs me the wrong way. Fortunately, that doesn't happen here at WA too often. I do retain the right to preview
comments.
I haven't used the site comments section although I have 2 in the bank. It seems to me a 2 for 3 deal would be better.
Marty:-)
Don't get me wrong, Marty. There are plenty of people that leave great comments... I was just venting off steam for the few that really were leaving 'feedback' instead of actually commenting on the article. I didn't ask for feedback about my site. Lol or to have my product competition brought up... That really happened.
I think the best thing you can do to truly help those that don't understand what a good comment is- reject the comment and explain, or reject and link to this post. Lol
That I have done and they understood. It gave them a new perspective as you are doing with this blog.
I disagree about contradicting. I do disagree when I find it appropriate, there is nothing bad in this.
It would be understandable if you were a potential customer with a valid point... but we are commenting to help elevate stats. -'having each others backs'- Positivity and engaging are far more important within community unless it's constructive criticism. And if so, that should be addressed privately at this point.
There are many resources that talk about negative comments, how to handle them etc. I won't mind fielding those comments from real readers and potential customers. But I'm investing serious time, commenting twice to get one... I expect a good quality comment, just like I'd give.
Nicki,
Thanks for your sharing your insight.
What would you suggest when you come upon a site or article that really needs help with grammar, spelling, and other language challenges. How would you handle that? I want to leave constructive comments when appropriate.
Jeff
Great question Jeff! And yours is a FANTASTIC example of an engaging comment.:) First, remember in the sitecomments that we basically pay for those comments 2to1, so keep the comment relevant to the article.
I know the types of articles you speak of and yes, it's hard to ignore the mistakes. I think it's best to contact them via email or look them up in WA and recommend they either use a writing program that checks for errors beyond spelling (I have a content writing how-to that talks about this on my site:) OR suggest they hire an editor on fiverr for $5.
When an article is really poorly written, it will hinder growth and income... I believe as fellow members we should at least make the suggestion to use one of those options. If anyone else has a suggestion for dealing with that, please chime in! I know it's a delicate subject for some.
Thanks again Jeff!

Great post and we do need to give thought to any comments we are leaving on someone's site

HI, yes it is so true, I also don't like it when I get those types of DO NOT comments. It's paying it forward, how can you expect a good comment if you give a bad one. Then rather change the line of interests (setup in comments of siterubix) to something you're really interested in, right?
What I tend to do, if there is something wrong on the person's website (like a typo - which can be embarrassing when the customers sees it), I still leave them an engaging comment and then here at WA I'll contact them and tell them about it. I don't leave it on their website for the world to see.
Thanks for sharing
Blessings in abundance
Linda
Hi, Linda:)
You just described the proper and polite way to engage on site comments. It's a 'good neighbor' thing to do:)
