Love yourself
It took me a while to understand the meaning of the underneath quote, Rumi grasp the meaning of love in these sophisticated words. According to his words we waisted our time seeking and searching for others love (Moms, Dads, wives, husbands, kids, siblings, relative, and even society). How many of us think he/she is not worthy to be loved or lost the meaning of - To Be Loved - just because no body tell them _ I love you.
“Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.” ― Rumi
As simple as his words we didn’t love ourselves enough to understand that we are the ones who created the barriers and obstacles around ourselves. We close our mind just to be loved by others and forget totally about ourselves as it is the end of the world.
We created our barriers with our own hands corresponding to our cultures, societies, and families. We are the once who distract us from loving us. In other words, we gave others the opportunity to control us under the name of love.
Today most of our psychiatrist and psychologist classify how to seek self-love. Listen, understand, and respect are the key words to demolish all kind of barriers that we create around ourselves to get the love that we deserve.
Q. How many of us spend his entire life just searching for his/her true love???

Loving yourself is key to loving ANYONE. If you can't love yourself how can you effectively love others? You have NO basis to work from if you can't love you!
Totally agree with you we have to love our self, before loving others. But I think we have to differentiate between loving yourself as human BEING who is forgive loving personal and the selfishness EGO person who lives only for himself with judgmental attitude and bad behaviors.
Sure, you are right Jeffery but for how extend you are going to love yourself. I think when you live the BEING inside you means you reach the power of love in listening, understanding yourself. But if you live the EGO means you are still waiting from others to love and admire you.
I love this post. I've read that its difficult to love others if you don't know how to live yourself so I definitely agree.
It looks like some of the tools for breaking down the barriers are the same for living someone else. Listen, understand and respect!!
