How to make up for a Lack of Talent

It’s human nature to strive for success and to focus on our goals. Almost everyone wants to do well financially, in family matters, relationships and in emotional, physical and spiritual well -being. I put financial first because so much of what we want hinges on our freedom from economic constraint.

So one’s success is often determined by his income. This doesn’t mean a person can’t be a big success in other endeavors. But, even when he is, if one is not able to reach his goals due to lack of income it is still an area he should seek to master. I think that is why most of us are working to succeed online.

There are many skills and talents required for success. Fortunately, here at Wealthy Affiliate we are all learners and mentors at the same time. In the USA all persons are considered to be equal under the law. But that doesn’t mean they are equally gifted in skills, natural talents or knowledge. Many of us are lacking in one or more of these areas.

But this doesn’t mean that one should belly-up and quit. I remember as a child I used to go to a girls’ camp every summer. A major part of the program was team sports. If you could play well you’d help your team to win and be well liked. If not, the other girls would sort of cringe when you were on their team.

I was not strong in any team sports, but I wanted to play and win. I looked for one area that I was good at in vain. When I was just about to cave in I spotted a competition called “underwater swimming contest”. I wondered what it was and read on knowing I was not a fast swimmer.

Well, speed wasn’t required! All you had to do was dive under water and stay under. The last one to surface was the winner. I thought that’s easy. I just had to swim with eyes open and wait for the last one to surface. Then I went a bit further and won.

I learned a lesson that has served me well throughout my life. You can make up for a lack of talent by deciding to do something and persisting. I’ve done well in many areas, but had never really dedicated myself to creating an income. I’m starting late in life.

I am often far from my comfort zone and “treading water”. Sometimes I try everything until I can make it work. I’ve received help from everyone here whenever I got stuck. I look forward to the day I start generating income. Meanwhile, I’m persisting.

You are right I think that persistence is a great need and help. Great post. ;o)

Thanks Virgina,
Sometimes it's easier than others. But you do it either way.

Awesome post Nancy. I am with in that I'm committed to persisting. Keep on, keepin' on.

Sincerely, Virginia.

Keep on swimming.

I'm going to do that. I haven't yet gotten enough traffic to start monetizing but I am going to work more on how my niche solves a problem.
My most recent article is sort of going in that direction. My niche is cats and cat lovers.

Here is my newest article:

Hi Nancy, nice blog post, your underwater swimming analogy relates entirely to how many people feel here at WA. I guess the moral of the story is, don't give up, look a little harder for something you excel at, or in niche marketing terms, other niches and keywords you can compete for.
Best regards,
Paul

Yes, It's funny. I found out a lot of people are afraid of the water, even grown men. But I'm not.

I am often far from my comfort zone and “treading water”.. Seems kinda funny that we spend so much time treading water and you found your niche underwater!!
