How to Create an Awesome Website without Social Media?

I've entered a new universe that is very strange to me, the world of Social Media. I know it's the in thing to do but I avoided it till now. I have an account on Facebook and Google+. I haven't gotten much farther than putting in a small photo in my profile.

I now get messages from my niece, grand children and others. I can see no rhyme or reason in the sites. I hardly know how to comment. It's a distraction to writing content which is what I love doing. I realize that Facebook is especially weird. Except for some great images from my daughter-in-law it is "noise".

I think Google + might be workable. But I have to admit I don't want to be a part of this. Emails seem to work fine. So I searched on Google to find out how to create an awesome website without social media and except for one article on Forbes which only pointed out people might be happier without it there was nothing but advice on how to benefit from social media and monetize.

I think I may not be the only person who feels this way, especially for baby boomers. And it would probably be a very good title for an article or a website niche. But as I mentioned already the data is not available online.

If you have any knowledge in this area I'd like to know. Meanwhile I plan to put my participation on hold and get back to content creation.

I look forward to your feedback on this matter.

Hello Nancy..,my goodness with all of the great comments on your post I would have expected a lot more 'Likes'. I have been musing over this too so I'm really glad you asked the question.

Time wise a struggle for me to get my content written with my little one bouncing through the day and now my bro-in-law fighting cancer, April will be another whirlwind month for me.

What I took from this and the comment below is to learn this method but write, write, write our content. I know I've seen Kyle saying this many times throughout.

So...we're good and the social thing we may find a way to engage in without it being a distraction and drawing folks to us so we can improve our traffic,,,that will be worth it!

Linda

Thanks Linda. Content is what its all about. But there is a technology to using social media and one of these days I will have the tome to learn it. For some it's really easy as they grew up using these tools. For me it would take more time than I now have. But I will have to cross that river in the not too distant future.

nancy

Content above all, then Google, then LinkedIn have given me the most back in linking. Twitter and Facebook not so much. That's my nickel. ^_~

Thanks.I think that's good advice. I have Google and Linked in . And a family only on Facebook.

My thinking is how did anybody make money before FB, Pinterest, RSS, Google+ and all other sites. Social stuff just takes too much time, otherwise we would not need advice on how to set up our day, giving on 1-2 hours for social and the rest to research and writing.

Nancy, you are like many of us, social media does not like me very much either. Then there other ways to get traffic ( traffic exchange, viral sites among others) where you can have your banners, Urls advertized. Since am newbie I cannot make explicit and/or exact reccomendations. Even so, I do not discard ( in the future) to have FB and/or other social media accounts especifically for marketing use.

After reading all the comments below I believe you have already arrived at the right conclusion.

Here is my 2cents Facebook is too much lalala bulls--- but I still use it to an extent, but now Google+ is something that is very good for getting traffic to your site. You have to make sure you have set up your authorship for goggle especially with the plugin. Then every time you create a post or page for your website copy and paste your best meta description of your site with your keyword phrases and post it on your google+ page.d If you do this right it will put you on the first page of google search and the fore you will get traffic.

Thanks Tommy. I copy & pasted this as I need to learn more about "meta description" and how to post things to my Google + page before I can do it. But it sounds like good advice.
Is there a tutorial on how to write a Google+ profile etc.?

Yes there is one that Kyle put together and here it is.

my biggest problem is that they speak a differnt language he he. the abbreviations are a mystery ha ha

Not only the abbreviations but the text. I do understand the English words but they communicate nothing. I got one comment "D"??? And a complaint about not getting enough food stamps!

im not very gone on it either. But i reserve judgment for a little while later. im still trying to get my head around it all.

I think you expressed it very well. My Facebook notifications are a strange jumble of random comments. Perhaps Google + will be more conservative. And I am trying to get my head around it too!

Especially twitter, it's confusing as hell with all those hash tags lol.

I'm sure you can create a website, there is definitely ways to contact people and still have good traffic. Social media isn't everything, especially for a website since a social media is the least of your worries for a website.

Just do your best without it, use emails as you said and you should be pretty good to go. Just get a way to get people to subscribe to you, and you're probably good.

Good luck :]

Thank you emeraldmoonx,

That's a great username! I think in level 3 it gets into subscribers. I hope so, because I haven't yet anything in place and want to build a mailing list.

Ah I have no idea I just started phase 2 of the bootcamp lol

I'm kind of in the same boat. Mostly, I just don't care much for all the nonsense involved in social engagement. I think time is much better spent creating great content. Just be sure to get authorship and atleast put your profiles on "share only" mode, it helps rankings.

Hi choppydo,

Thanks for the data. I signed up for Google+ in order to get authorship. What does it mean to "put your profiles on 'share only' mode? And how does one do that?

Just a fancy way of saying hit the share buttons without actually interacting on the social networks. Also, tell people about your different profiles in your "about me" page. You could get some followers and build momentum in social that way too.
