I have a couple of update requests on WordPress for Wellington and another Theme I have on clipboard in there ... my question is will I lose content, pictures and so on by doin

I see you have gotten information about backing your system up, now; will anything get deleted when you change or update themes?

Depends on what you have, what theme you have now and ...
BUT, that is how you learn stuff!

Hi Mickey, yes I learned a lot ... back up & then update, everything was there after update but some were a bit jumbled .... page addresses not right & for help to change them to right address again, e.g. about me was showing as privacy policy ... all sorted now, suppose until i find another blip ... thanks for responding & good luck with your learning too ;)

I need that good LUCK (Labor Under Correct Knowledge)

Great question. I learned from it.

It's always a good idea to do a backup before you update, but if you don't feel comfortable with doing that, WA also does backups of your site. If you go to the Site Manager it will show you when the last backup was done. If anything goes wrong during the update, which is unlikely, you can always contact WA support to restore your site.

good to know

Hey Mary,

My favourite backup was introduced to me by Marion Black. Here's her training video:

Thank you so much ... going to try now and see how it goes ... :)

Did it & updated theme, all seems to be ok, there was advise about doing child theme or something but I couldn't understand it, to techi for me, so took chance after backing up & updated. So far so good, I did refresh but going to restart computer to make sure everything is the same as before update ... I'm glad to have that fine & must make a habit of backing up just in case of problems ... thanks again to u Triblue & Marion ...

Hey Mary,

Child theme is recommended if you want to change tweak the actual layout of your WordPress theme. The reason for that step is to protect your site being overwritten with the theme's updates. However, you obviously did NOT tweak your theme's cascade style sheet or you would be shrieking loudly, I'm sure. ;-)

Glad all went well with your update.

You shouldnt lose content or images but its best to back up just incase something wrong with the update. Just a precaution.

Hi Mary you will always need to update them for security reasons and things. This link will show you how to do a simple.back up

Thank you so much Graham, I will do it tomorrow, it's bedtime now ... I do appreciate your quick response ;)
