The language challenge

As I am making new friends here at Wealthy Affiliate I see that we come from all places on this earth. All continents are well represented.

I am born and raised in Curacao, a small island in the Caribbean. It is a beautiful island with people from at least 40 different countries. We speak Papiamentu. We are still a part of the Netherlands, so our education system is in Dutch and Papiamentu. When there is no wind we can see the coast of Venezuela, South America. You can guess it, we learn Spanish too at school. And without English you still can not communicate with a lot of people, so English is on the menu too.

But the moment you sit down to write something that matters, it is necessary to make as little mistakes as possible. This is not easy. You can understand most of the time what others are saying and you can say something back. But writing is a whole different story.

Be honest, don’t you think when you read something which has language mistakes that probably the content will not be as good either?

So I want to encourage you to tell me when I make a mistake or could have written it differently.

I make use of a free online programs that can control a lot of mistakes, especially spelling and punctuation, automatically. Although it doesn't always understand what I want to say :-) But make use of them, they will make you feel more secure.

Good luck with the challenge and practice makes progress!!

Greetings Mary Ann, I've recently come across a profile reply that you wrote to Tygilbert and this inspired me to look in on your profile.
I admire those who by circumstance or desire learn another's language...as I reflect how important it is to expanding our world view.
There is little that comes to inspire me more than learning of other cultures, traditions and histories...
And we live in an extraordinary time as through the internet we are able to experience these, by simply typing a question or finding a link.
Thank you for bringing this subject into the light and I know I am going to enjoy watching your progress...so I elect to push follow.

Respectfully, David

David,
Thank you so much.
Technology is making so many things possible now. It is beautiful.

I like the way you think. It is good to know about other cultures so we can understand each other. Although the internet helps us a lot, traveling and really being in another country is a totally different experience, I love it. It inspires me so much.

Here in WA, I have friends from all over the world. I like that very much.

Thanks for your comment and I will be following you too.
Regards,
Mary-Ann

Good morning Mary Ann,
Your comment inspires my thoughts of traveling.
I have visited many places in the western hemisphere and always felt affinity with thinking of us as a human community of diverse backgrounds and interest...
And I believe you when you say there is no replacement to "being there", to inspire wonder and connection.
Have a "best day ever" kind of day, ok, and thanks for your reply

As friend, David

By the way, To Curacao< Ive been. Beautiful...only wished I had more time

Wauw, thank you for visiting the island. Next time you are here I can show you around.

You have a friend here.
Mary-Ann.

Bon dia. I worked in the Caribbean for 8 years and Aruba and Curaçao were 2 of the islands I traveled to often. They are both so beautiful.

Good luck on your journey. Hope you don’t mind that I’ve followed you:)

Of course not. Thank you very much.

How nice that you know the islands. I was wondering how much people would know them.

Good luck to you too on your journey here at WA.
Mary-Ann.

Many people here in America mangle English as their only language. lol Cut yourself some slack my friend. I've encouraged some other friends to use Grammarly, as it can be installed on the Google machine to run in the background of most programs. :-)

I just use grammar improviser that installed in site content. Do you think it's enough?

That will only help you when you're writing in Site Content. So I'd use Grammarly as well.

Correction is important in linguistics. Indeed all human thought!

Thanks for the share. Jay

same here.English is not my first language, so to write the content is quite a challenge for me

Oh! The first time I have ever heard of Papiamentu language. From reading your post. I would have never known. You write really well. I did not find any mistakes or anything. Great Job!

Thank you.
