Travelling to the heart of the Kgalagadi Desert
I wonder how many WA members have ever been to Kgalagadi or have an Idea about the Kgalagadi desert?
The Kalahari Desert is a large Semi arid sandy savannah in the Southern Hemisphere extending 900,000 square kilometers (350,000 sq mi), covering much of Botswana and other parts of the neighboring Namibia as well as other parts of South Africa. It has huge tracts of excellent grazing after good rains; the Kalahari supports more animals and plants than a true desert. There are small amounts of rainfall and the summer temperature is extremely high whilst winter is as cold as you cant imagine. The surrounding Kgalagadi Basin covers over 2,500,000 square kilometers (970,000 sq mi) extending farther into Botswana, Namibia and South Africa, The Kgalagadi is home to many migratory birds and animals. It is the havens for wild animals from antelope to giraffes, and for predators such as lions and cheetahs, the pans mostly know as salt pans attracts animals and use them mostly as drinking spots, leopards and cheetahs are still at an abundance mostly in the quite areas.. The area is heavily grazed and cattle fences restrict the movement of wildlife. Among deserts of the southern hemisphere, the Kalahari is most know to closely resembles some Australian Desert for those of you who are familiar with the Australian.
Tomorrow I will be traveling to the Kgalagadi desert where I grew up where you can experience the full sun set and enjoy the Kgalagadi pans/salt pans as seen on the picture
Figure 1: The beauty of Kgalagadi- enjoy one of the Salt Pans - sorry not able to attach next time.
where I will enjoy seeing the animals within the traditional kraal.

Mkobo , i have been there many times , its a very special place . Certain times of the year i have flown over it in my light aircraft to
go in search of Flamingo's.........millions of them ! When one flies over
the Kgalagadi on a hot summers day the turbulance can be overwhelming........but above a salt pan its as smooth as glass. I will be there in Feb/March going up to Maun Botswana , my friend has a Safari camp in the Okavango Delta . Enjoy your trip. Take care , Johan.
Hi Johan that's wonderful to hear, you really know and understand the real experience of being in the heart of the desert. You will be very much welcome and let me know when you come. Waiting to meet you dear.
Wow, this sounds absolutely incredible. To see wildlife like that would be an experience of a lifetime for us back here in pampered cities being spoiled rotten with all the wrong stuff, lol; we have wildlife but nothing in comparison to what you have and we only witness on TV; unless of course we see them at the zoo...something I am not in favor of...but hey...what North America (Canada/USA) wants it gets. As you can probably tell, I am not a fan of where I live (Canada), but then I guess, the grass always looks greener on the other side of the fence; but I'd take more realism, logic and common sense, and less greed, envy and deception any day. That is my rant. Have a super safe trip and thank you so much for sharing...it sounds beautiful. God bless you and your journey.
