Personal computers consists of 3 to 5 major external hardware devices (a physical/tangible piece of electronic component) which you can see.
- The 1st component is what you’re viewing this Post on; some users refer to them as the Monitor or Display. This is what’s known as an output device.
- In a personal computer layman’s definition, an output device is something which auditory or visually communicates a message, theme, picture or any other written/verbal communication. You may also hear it referred to as WYSIWIG. “What You See Is What You Get.” In other words what’s seen on your monitor or display is accomplished as a result of someone or something supplying data, graphics, numbers or symbols
- The 2nd or 3rd component is what’s used to supply the previously mentioned objects; the data, the graphics, the numbers or symbols.
- This is what’s known as an input device.
- This could be either a keyboard, mouse, stylus (commonly used on smart phones, iPads and Kindles) or with some touchscreen devices (such as a Kiosk) which makes use of your hand or fingers.
- The 4th or 5th component, also known as an output device.
- This could be a printer, a fax machine or an all-in-one device (which essentially combines multiple output devices into one hardware component).
- There are also numerous other output devices, which will not be discussed at this level of the Discussion Post. The aforementioned devices are more on the intermediate level of Discussion Post and will be covered in both the intermediate and advanced Post/Training.
