My Dad

Blogging about my personal life might not be all business like. I apologize in advance if that's how it's viewed. But today is Father's Day and I can't help but think about the inspiration that my father gave me. I'm certain that I am not the only one on here who feels that way. And, I know this is an American Holiday, so many of you may not fully get it. But if you love your dad, then you will.
My dad is 73 and still works 3-4 days a week. He works for himself. He makes redwood trinkets and is very good at it. From chainsaw carved trees to hang on the wall, to shot "glasses" on the lathe. I learned my first trade from him. Working with wood. Which I sill love to do.
I know that not all fathers are good fathers. I know not all of them become "dads." Some are just sperm donors and need to be treated as such. And some of you who are reading might be thinking that celebrating your father would be the last thing you'd spend your time doing. Okay, I understand that. But even a deadbeat dad can teach you something.

Take all the bad moments you had from your father and put them together in a cubicale in your mind. Now, take those out one at a time and look at them as a lesson. A lesson in what not to do. You've probably heard all of this before, but I really believe it can work.
My dad was great, but he wasn't perfect. I've learned some positive lessons from his negatives. I am fortunate he wasn't a monster or abusive. But he had his share of faults for sure.
Either way, please take this in the spirit it is given. Happy Father's Day!
Matt
