Knock Off My Path - Temporarily Off Course

In April of this year I was planning out the months ahead at Wealthy Affiliate. I knew that I would be off work for sometime do to having my knee replaced. Though I did not look forward to the surgery, I was excited that I would have so much time on my hands that I could continue training, build good content, and apply ranking SEO practices.

Sadly this was not the case. When I was awake which often was an issue, I chased shiny objects, procrastinated, and down right avoided working. Four months later and I look back at all the wasted time. The one positive I give myself, is that I stayed connected with the community, and I am glad I did.

Staying connected, reading encouraging posts from so many members, seeing success stories regularly, helped me to stay the course. Even though I was not personally advancing in my training or content, I still knew this was the direction I wanted.

Today was the day. I made a firm decision to go back and start the training from scratch, and I chose to change course. I eventually want to go towards the MMO and Bootcamp training but that required more learning.

Instead, I chose a niche that I am trained in professionally, and very passionate about. Photography has been a part of my life since my teen years, trust me that was a very long time ago. The decision to change course at this point in time was based on already being very knowledgeable, which will help with content building. It is probably the direction I should have originally gone.

So back to today, I entered my office at 1:00pm, put my head down and went through Level ! of the Online Entreprenuer Certification. I started the new website, wrote About Me page and got the Private Policy In Order.

It is now 1:20 am, I just finished check my emails and to my surprise, earlier this evening my website was indexed into Google. I could have been only hours since I posted it. This is an incredible motivation to get back in my office first thing tomorrow and review Level 2 of the training. I feel like I am on fire now.

I chalked up my slip and fall at Wealthy Affiliate as to many obstacles to climb. I needed to recover both mentally and physically before I could really concentrate on my path here at WA.

Over the months I have received many well wishes and I would like to thank everyone in the community. I have always maintained that one of the greatest selling factors at WA is the members and how they support on another. I found this out firsthand.

Onward and upward - success is waiting for us!

Life often gets in the way of our plans. I think sometimes life is there is guide us in our journey and sometimes it seems as if it knows better than us. The end result often works out better, we learn a lesson or two and move onto bigger and better things.
I’m new to the community and I look forward to following your journey. Enjoy every minute of it

Thank you Rob, my parents were big fans of "when one door closes, another opens", I am sorting feeling that way at the moment. Welcome to WA, not sure how long you have been here but I have to tell you about the great community of people. While I didn't have the focus to work on my own marketing plan, I was still able to follow the great members in the community. This was good for me, because I could get out to socialize like I like, but I could still socialize here at WA. I feel very lucky to have this community of support.
Mary

Been there, done that and nicely settled at WA thank you. I think many of us go through this problem Mary, especially when you cannot see an income from all your hard work.

I am glad you are back in the fold and progressing with your old love and new site.

Derek

Thanks Derek, I probably should have chosen this niche first. I have always been excited about photography and have loads of knowledge. It is great to be back into the swing of things.
Mary

Congrats Mary, on your steadfast perseverance and recovery!
It takes a big person to admit they procrastinated and avoid the work altogether.

I'm happy you switched your niche to something you are an expert in, photography. This is definitely lower hanging fruit and will make content and engagement much easier.

Remember success is never a straight line; the lessons learned by failing has brought you to a new starting point. Now you are ready, and the results of Google indexing you within hours is only the first step.

Yes indeed, success is waiting for you now!

Thanks Kaju, I have been following you the past few months when the community kept me great company and gave me inspiration. I have always found you so positive, it means a lot to me that see the positives in my low period. I feel that anything is possible again.
Mary

Hi Mary,
Nothing wrong with shiny objects, sometimes we need it as a remedy.
Stay positive, think about how to improve your health firstly and everything will be ok.

Thanks, I can agree sometimes shiny object lead to new ideas, I just need to control how many I chase at once.LOL Stay positive, I think is the goal.
Mary

Hi Mary,

I am so glad you are recovering and now starting a new site! Congratulations!!!! I plan to start a WA promotion site as well but it will be a stretch since I want to keep my first two sites as well!

Yes, the community is amazing!
Jessica

Hi Jessica, 3 sites sound like a lot of work, I have many plans and hope to tie everything together some how. But that is all for another day. As for my recovery, it is a slow process but I am happy with my results as are all my doctors, (it seems I have been collecting doctors the pass couple of years LOL).
Mary

I know how you feel there. I have more ailments than I can count! It is hard for me just to get to work many days and I get scared that someday I won't be able to keep my job. That is part of why I am doing this.

Oh mary
That was painful!
Did revalidation work out well?

Many wHo had this surgery are very happy they did...
Wishing you the best

Hi Fleeky, yes there were some pretty painful times, but now that I am getting stronger the pain is decreasing. The surgery was very success, I am happy to have the 1st one done, but I need to have the other knee replaced. I am not looking forward to it, but I want to get back to an active lifestyle and this is the only way. It is amazing what they can do to fix worn out parts.
Mary

Yes Mary
Good to read you have less pain and all is ok now.

It is like going to the dentist. Second time we like less..

Welcome back on board and you have got this for sure Mary- All the best
Vicki

Thanks Vicki, it feels great to be working on my website again. This community has been a great support for me.
Mary

Congrats Mary - well done for putting your recover first - now you can rock on up to the heights you strive for

Thanks Fleur, my recovery forced me to put it first, it seemed like I had no focus. I am glad to feel more motivated.
Mary

Health is so important Mary - I'm delighted to hear it is all returning back to you now

Glad you're recovering, both from your surgery AND shiny object syndrome. It's so easy to get distracted, but as long as you get back to the basics time and time again, you'll find success.

Thank you, yes I am recovering well, just glad I have motivation again.
