Practice 3 minutes Pause before getting out of your Bed
Why I Take 3 Minutes Before Getting Out of Bed
Most mornings, it’s tempting to jump straight out of bed and rush into the day. There’s always something waiting messages, responsibilities, things to fix or figure out. I used to start my day already feeling behind.
Now, I do something simple.
Before I get out of bed, I pause for three minutes.
I lie still and take a deep breath. The first thing I do is thank God for waking me up. Sometimes I say a full prayer, other times it’s just, Thank You, Lord, for another day. Either way, I start by acknowledging Him.
Then I sit in the quiet for a moment. No phone. No scrolling. Just stillness. It helps calm my mind and reminds me that God is present before the noise of the day begins.
Finally, I commit the day to Him. I ask God to order my steps, guide my decisions, and give me grace for whatever lies ahead. I don’t try to control the day I surrender it.
The Bible says, In the morning, Lord, You hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before You and wait expectantly. That verse stays with me. It reminds me that God is already listening before I even get out of bed.
Those three minutes have changed how I start my day. I’m less anxious, less rushed, and more grounded in faith.
It’s such a small pause, but it makes room for God to lead the rest of my day.

This really resonates with me.
I started something similar about three years ago, just five intentional minutes before getting out of bed. That quiet moment with God, before the phone and the noise of the day, completely changed how I approach my mornings.
That simple practice is actually what gave birth to my devotional "Dwelling in His Presence" https://jbwintouch.com/books. It all started with learning to pause, give thanks, and surrender the day to God before taking that first step.
Thank you for sharing this reminder. Small, intentional moments with God truly make room for Him to lead the rest of the day.
I had an aunt that loved God her whole life. She lived to be 98. I talked to her everyday on the phone for 7 years before her passing. And she always said, "I Thank God for another beautiful day!" I picked up the habit. Everyday can be beautiful. We just have to choose to make it that way!

I too feel gratitude for every new day. I don't jump out of bed straightaway but I don't pray either. My dog generally wakes me up at dawn and while she sits next to my bed nuzzling into my pillow, she gets lots and lots of strokes while I completely wake up.
Not as spiritual as your routine, but nevertheless gives me time to say thank you for a new day and to run through what needs to get done in my mind.
Thanks for sharing
God bless you.
