How To Move A Website or How Not To Move A Website

For Years I have had a free Google site for my local carpet cleaning business. Those were the years I only knew around 15 % of the SEO I needed to know to get my site seen.

So below the story begins with an epiphany I awoke with one morning not too long ago and then I dive into how to move a website.

(this post may take me a few days to complete so please, if you find it too early save it, and maybe what happened to me while moving my site will save you time and headache along the way as I come back and add more here)

Even tho, I stayed busy with a few apartment and rental property accounts and did virtually nothing to boost my website but a few expensive Google ads now and then it slowly climbed in rankings for low hanging fruit keywords and then a few more.

Approximately 4 years ago, I woke up realizing that the customers and jobs I had mostly been doing Were Not my Dream Customers at all. I needed to learn how to get much better rankings to win more residential customers.

You see, rental properties with many rentals are the key customers my competitors were always trying to win so it kept the prices almost at a war stage so no one made a real substantial profit servicing them..just busy.

My epiphany was simply this. I wanted more residential customers and I wanted To earn the 5 stars I knew I deserved on social pages that I had not even started yet. I wanted to turn my business around and start making a profit doing the same quality work for a New Type of customer that will appreciate my hard work ethics and professionalism.

Moving My Webite

One of the first things I did was for traffic so I started my social business pages on Facebook, Google Plus and Twitter. I then flew online and found Empower Network and the Kalatu blogging platform. As I was learning what SEO and website optimizations I could... for the training modules I could only afford at the time...I started my blog there on Kalatu. It was an awesome platform for beginners and gurus alike. A true "Marketer's Blog"

No, the blog I started was for a few online marketing tools, business opportunities and traffic sites. I used the seo that learned to also implement on my free Google local site and it went crazy UP! I knew I had made the right decision to start learning this stuff :)

Today I have lots of wonderful keywords ranking and after a few years lots of new residential customers and some real nice commercial accounts too. I love it! ..but the main Top keyword I wanted could never stay too long on the top search results of Google.

These days Google has decided to shut down that older hosting platform and start a new one. Well that was the last straw as from that email on they were disconnecting very important widgets I needed like Click To Call buttons and more. So, I came to WA and slowly starting the new site for my carpet cleaning business.

I was so busy in that bubble of needing just a few more jobs a week to have crew number two going strong and me out of the work van. It's so hard to focus on marketing when you are doing everything in the business to keep it going. I was finally ready to begin focusing on moving my website to a more pleasant seo friendly place.

Now bear in mind I was super busy and decided to move this site without remembering all the things I learned from Kyle and Jay here at WA. I had some huge hic-cups along the way this past week but A very Huge Thank You goes to the Wealthy Affiliates support team. As of the very same week I began to move my site my domain name is moved along with my site now and I'm indexed on Google and I also have the site map and https working good.

The last huge thing I need to fix is the first submission error (submitting website too early) and go back to webmaster on Google and repair them. If you don't all your homework done in Google analytics, Search Console and Webmaster control you are missing out on huge traffic!! So, go watch WA's video's again, and again, and again till you have Your Site Right! :))

P. S. You only have 10 "Fetch as Google" requests a month so don't waste them. If you do go add or change something on your site then go back to Google console and just do a regular submit to be placed on their bots list for a possibility of a faster re indexing

Allen, I am happy to hear you are still going strong even with the little hiccups you experienced along the way. In 2015 I too had a couple of sites that I wanted to move to WA. One thing that I learned during this maneuver is to BACK UP YOUR SITE! I didn't backup my site and as good as WA support is something went wrong with the migration and my sites were lost.
I still had all my individual file folders on my home computer so it could be rebuilt, but wow, that's a lot of work! The moral of my story is it's better safe than sorry, backup your site, even if you don't plan on moving your site.
This was an incredible learning experience that you achieved and you are a much better online marketer because of it.
I assume your goal is to gain enough business to hire employees to do the work and you just sit back and supervise? Similar to a contractor that gets the jobs to have his crews do the work. This is how empires are built; one stone at a time. Thank you for sharing.
Ken

Yes Ken I learned early to back up and Save everything!! Even make sure word or Notepad is saving all my freshly written content for my blogs ads ideas, whatever. Time is wayy too precious to waist on trusting technology alone lol.

As far as wanting to get out of the work vans has actually come a necessity these days. I need to be freed up to continue my marketing business. I have sites, pages and FB ads of my own as well as a few friend's businesses that I work on.

It's like the more we learn and implement in our marketing the busier we become :)

Catch you around the platform my friend!

I like this very much.

Thank You! Somehow I landed on my blog site here and realized I wanted to update my profile some.

A lot has happened the past few months in my businesses and all to the good. ...Just thinking about outsourcing some articles now for my blogs to free up some time for some Google Search Console time with a blog that's slowly moving up in rankings. I've got a few low hanging fruit keywords ranking now and it's time to implement the new seo strategies I've learned lately.

How are things going for your business? Give me the good, the bad and the ugly. We All Learn Here ;)

Thanks for sharing, Allen.

Hey BR! Hope my unfinished story teaches a little perseverance.
